Star Trek[]

Kirk is strapping himself in for lift off when one of the officers is dragging McCoy into the main area. He goes on a paranoid rant when the officer tells him to sit down before she makes him. He sits down next to Kirk and tells him that he may throw up on him. Kirk says that things are meant to be pretty safe, but McCoy just lists all the things that could go wrong. He says that space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence, but Kirk points out that Starfleet operates in space. McCoy says that he's got nowhere else to go after his divorce, as all he's got left are his bones. He takes out a flask and after taking a drink offers it to Kirk. Kirk takes it and the two formally introduce themselves to each other.

McKirk is one of the most popular ships in the Star Trek fandom. While it gained a following in the TOS fandom, it started to gain more fans with the AOS movies. Many finding that the first film was able to make a pretty decent argument for having the two get together. Even thinking that it did a better job of their relationship than Spock and Kirk's. It's biggest rival ships are Spirk and Spones.

Some fans were disappointed that Into Darkness didn't focus on their relationship as much as the first one did. Missing the scenes that drew the ship to the pairing. Many fics post the film however, did focus on McCoy's reaction to Kirk's death, and their relationship growing beyond that. While they still didn't have as many scenes together in Beyond, many were happy with the scenes that did exist between the two. Especially since they brought out some of the core themes of film.

On AO3, McKirk is the most written ship for Bones and the second most written for Kirk. It is also the third most written ship in the Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Original Series (Movies) tags and the second most written in the Star Trek and Star Trek: Alternate Original Series tags. There are currently 8880+ written works.
