Season 2[]

AMOK TIME

Spock returns to the Enterprise and informs McCoy of what should be done after he killed Kirk. McCoy tries to interrupt, but Spock insists that he finish, unaware that Kirk has appeared behind him. Spock says that he'll order Scotty to take command, when Kirk asks if he should be talking to him first. Spock excitedly exclaims, only to make himself more reserved when he remembers that Chapel and McCoy are there. He asks how Kirk is still alive and Kirk informs him that McCoy had given him a paralyzing agent. Which made it seem like he was dead.

Chapel leaves and McCoy asks what happened with T'Pring. Spock says that after "killing" Kirk, he seemed to have lost all madness and all interest in T'Pring. McCoy points out that when Spock saw Kirk alive, he looked to be on the verge of having a very emotional scene, but Spock says it was only logical relief that a very efficient captain hadn't been lost. Kirk says he understands, and Spock thanks him for doing so. McCoy says his reaction was quite logical, and when Kirk and Spock start to leave he finishes with "in a pig's eye". Spock and Kirk pause at that, but Kirk says that they need to head back to the bridge and leave the medbay.

Fanon[]

McSpirk is one of the more popular ships from both TOS and AOS. Being the most popular poly ship in the Star Trek fandom overall, and one of the earliest examples of poly shipping in fandom. A lot of shipping is influenced by the three being the main focal characters of TOS. Roddenberry even describing their dynamic as a whole man split in three. Unlike a lot of OT3's, most fans don't see one as the more controlled to hold the others back. As many recognize that although the three are rather serious, they're all very likely to do something slightly crazy and rule breaking.

On AO3, McSpirk is the third most written ship for Bones and Kirk, and the fourth most written for Spock. It is also the eighth most written ship in the Star Trek: Alternate Original Series tag and the fourth most written in the Star Trek: The Original Series tag. There are currently 1580+ written works.
