MegaLight is the family ship between Mega Man and Dr. Light from the Mega Man fandom.
Canon[]
Games[]
Mega Man, also called Rock, was the second of the "Robot Masters", highly advanced robots, created by Dr. Thomas Light, but was designated Doctor Light Number 001 (DLN-001) due to the first model having been a prototype for the line. Rock was created as a lab assistant for Dr. Light, unlike later Robot Masters who were created for industrial purposes. However, when several of Dr. Light's later creations were reprogrammed and weaponized by his rival Dr. Wily, Rock volunteered to be equipped for combat and become the heroic Mega Man. Following his victory over Wily in the original Mega Man game, Rock is seen reverting to his civilian form and joyously reuniting with Dr. Light.
This would prove to be only the first of Mega Man's adventures, however, as Wily would soon return with his own Robot Master creations in Mega Man 2. During this adventure, Dr. Light served as support for Mega Man, creating several items to assist him in his efforts against Dr. Wily. In Mega Man 3, Wily would feign repentance for his previous misdeeds only to unleash a new series of Robot Masters. Later, Dr. Light would inform Mega Man that Wily had stolen Gamma, a massive robot the two doctors had collaborated on, and Mega Man was forced to set off and confront Wily yet again. Later, when Mega Man was returned to Dr. Light's lab after Wily's apparent demise, Light was relieved to see Rock regain consciousness.
In Mega Man 5, Dr. Light is seemingly abducted by his original Robot Master, Proto Man, and held captive as Mega Man fights his way through yet another force of Robot Masters. However, it would ultimately prove that this Proto Man was an impostor, and that Dr. Wily once again had masterminded this latest series of villainous robots. Mega Man would thus be forced to fight against Wily again, rescuing Dr. Light from his clutches. As Wily's latest castle began to collapse, Light went into a panic, apparently unwilling or unable to leave Mega Man even as his robotic creation held up the ceiling to preserve their lives. Fortunately, the intervention of the true Proto Man allowed them to escape, and they would watch from a distance as Wily's castle crumbled and the villainous doctor made his escape.
At the conclusion of Mega Man 7, Mega Man is seen reuniting with Dr. Light and various of the doctor's creations after his latest adventure against Wily. Dr. Light appears more prominently in Mega Man 8, alerting Mega Man to the crash-landing of a meteor with a powerful energy reading. While Mega Man is in the process of collecting this energy, Dr. Light sets to work rebuilding the alien robot known as Duo. Mega Man arrives and questions Dr. Light on his progress just as he's completing his work, and Dr. Light then analyzes the energy collected by Mega Man so far. Fearing the consequences if the alien energy should fall into Wily's possession, Dr. Light urges Mega Man to seek out the remainder of the energy. When Duo awakens and departs the lab without warning, Dr. Light urges Mega Man to set out after the alien robot.
In Mega Man 9, Mega Man is once again forced to confront Robot Masters created by Dr. Light, who is framed for their rampages by Dr. Wily. The situation escalates when Dr. Light is apparently taken into police custody, and Mega Man becomes determined to exonerate his creator. Eventually, he learns that the robots recruited by Wily were scheduled to be destroyed due to reaching the ends of their periods of intended service. Upon being defeated, Wily admits that the "police" robots who took Dr. Light away were actually his creations and claims that Dr. Light has fallen ill in captivity.
Concerned for Dr. Light, Mega Man nearly rushes to what Proto Man arrives in time to reveal is a Dr. Light robot used by Wily as part of his scheme to frame the real Dr. Light. However, unwilling to take a chance in case it truly is Dr. Light, Mega Man goes to the prone form and is then electrocuted by the robot copy. Left to perish, Mega Man is both relieved to discover that the real Dr. Light isn't caught in this trap but also pities the robot that has been destroyed in the act of attacking him. Fortunately, Proto Man intervenes again to save Mega Man who is soon reunited with Dr. Light, and the Robot Masters tricked by Wily are repaired and given new functions.
In Mega Man 10, Dr. Light informs Mega Man that Roll has been infected with roboenza, a virus that affects robots in a manner similar to human illnesses. He urges Mega Man to exercise caution, but Mega Man is soon forced to contend with a force of Robot Masters all driven mad by exposure to the virus. Dr. Light once again acts as Mega Man's support and reassures him as they draw nearer to being able to produce a cure for all the affected robots. Much to Light's dismay, Mega Man himself is eventually infected just before they are betrayed by Dr. Wily, who claimed to be eager to help cure the epidemic when he was in fact responsible for it.
Dr. Light tries to discourage a now desperately ill Mega Man from going to confront Wily, only for Roll to provide Mega Man with a sample of the cure given to her earlier. Dr. Light then expresses their confidence in Mega Man. In Mega Man 11, Mega Man comes to Dr. Light's defense when Wily invades Light's lab to announce his latest campaign for world domination. Upon learning that Wily has resurrected his old Double Gear invention and having several of his latest robots stolen to be equipped with it, Light is reluctant to let Mega Man face them. Seeing his determination, however, Light decides to equip Rock with the prototype version of the device.
Light warns Mega Man that this could be dangerous, but Mega Man insists on undergoing the procedure. As Mega Man prepares to depart, Dr. Light praises his creation for his selfless action. Partway through his missions against the robots, Mega Man notices Dr. Light looking subdued and questions him. Dr. Light then speaks of his past history with Wily and the Double Gear system, and how Dr. Wily and he fell out over the Double Gear system. Light expresses his fear over the damage the system could do, both to robots equipped with it and if its abilities were misused. Mega Man sympathizes with his creator's regrets over alienating Wily, but Light then admits that if any robot can fulfill Wily's long ago dream of the Double Gear system creating a hero, it's Mega Man.
Having just finished work on Rush, Dr. Light presents him to Mega Man to assist in the remainder of his missions. After the last of the Robot Masters has been defeated, Wily contacts them with his coordinates in outrage at their use of the Double Gear system. Mega Man expresses his intent to confront Wily, and Light agrees that this must be done. Later, when Wily has been defeated, Light arrives to join Mega Man in confronting his old colleague.
Light then extols Mega Man as the ultimate product of both Light's and Wily's geniuses and attempts to reconcile with Wily, but the villainous doctor refuses this offer. As the fortress begins collapsing once again, Mega Man warns Dr. Light and then leads him and Auto out of the building. The two later reunite back at Light's lab and then watch as Auto-freshly equipped with the Double Gear system-carries in the defeated Robot Masters for repairs.

The Archie Comics follow the plot several of the games, but expand on Mega Man and Dr. Light's relationship so that Dr. Light clearly regards Mega Man with paternal affection and not just the pride of a creator.

The father-son relationship between Dr. Light and Mega Man is one of the few elements of the classic games story retained in this reimagined series. Dr. Light is once again Mega Man’s creator, but in this version Aki (Mega Man’s civilian identity) has a human sister named Suna and a long-lost twin brother named Daini whom Light also created. Aki attempts to conceal his heroics from his father, unaware that Dr. Light is fully aware that he is Mega Man.

Mega Man and Dr. Light's relationship varies between media. Dr. Light seems always to be proud and supportive-albeit with some reluctance-of Mega Man's decision to embrace a heroic persona. However, different depictions may see Light as merely a proud creator, and not as someone who views Mega Man as a son whom he built rather than fathering in the traditional way. This distance, or lack thereof, naturally also affects how Mega Man interacts with Dr. Light. Fan opinion tends to favor the father/son interpretation of their relationship.
The ship is tagged in 10 works (counting one for the Fully Charged version of the ship) on AO3, 2 of which are rated Mature.
