Coming from Atlantis Mera is not only able to breath and survive underwater, she also has the ability to control and bend water to her will. In order for Mera to use her powers she needs to find water, or simply something that is close to water.
Young Justice[]
The series has Mera training young Atlantians who have similar water abilities to hers. Three of her students have used their training and powers to become heroes. Whenever Mera or her students use their water abilities, blue glowing lines appear on their bodies. Mostly on their arms and sometimes on their faces as well.
DC Super Hero Girls[]
Gen 1 of the DCSHG web series has Mera's powers being rare, so rare that her sister Siren convinced her that the people of Atlantis would fear her, and it would lead to them separating the sisters. Unaware that her own sister was simply using Mera and her gift to achieve her personal goal, take over Atlantis by claiming it's trident. Until then Mera was asked to create currents and waves for transportation, or use them to attack those Siren has Mera view as their enemies. During a land battle when Mera was running low on water to control, she senses water in the pipes within the walls and calls upon the water running through them to her. Once Mera realised that Siren was the true villain, she used her water abilities to stop Siren and then gets excepted into Super Hero High, where she'll learn how to use her powers as a hero.
"Fish Out of Water" has Mera struggling to use her powers on land and not being near many bodies of water itself, at school and on the field. With her summoning a large amount a water that created a hole in the gym floor, ends up hogging the drinking fountain while other students were waiting for their turn, and when trying to use water from a nearby water fountain to stop Miss Clayface, the water mixed with her clay body made her bigger. When Mera was feeling that she doesn't have a place in the surface world, she finds herself using sea water from the bay to fight Firefly with. Along with creating a large wave to put out the fires he started. As a thanks for saving Miss Martian, Mera was given a new room that takes the form of a swimming pool. So she can always be in her watery element and can also have her giant pet seashore, Storm live with her. While having a pool party to celebrate, Mera starts a slash fight with Wonder Woman that leads to Mera summing a wave of water to splash her with.
After waking up to find her room's water gone at the start of "Water Water Nowhere," Mera finds herself being in desperate need of water. When Killer Croc damaged a pipe that drains all the school's water, before trying to steal a priceless status that was on lone to the school from the museum. Knowing that she can't take Croc on her own without water, Mera searches the school for any water she could use. She starts with the locations she is usually able to find water at, but when those failed she heads to Ivy's greenhouse. Hoping to find a water filled watering can, but they were all empty, luckily cactus plants contain water and Mera was able to use it to defeat Croc. This has Mera call the cactus her new green friend. The school's water was able to return after the drain pipe Croc damaged was fixed.

Like most cargo ships in the DC fandom, MeraWater was created as a joke ship or to simply find ways to explore Mera's iconic water related powers. Fans of Mera love the way she wields water and have even made jokes on her being a DC waterbender. That is why some fanworks and posts of Mera have included water, or simply water related themes.
