Mercy76 is the het ship between Mercy and Soldier: 76 from the Overwatch fandom.

Canon

Omnic Crisis

In an effort to assist the effort to end the crisis in a peaceful manner, Angela Ziegler - a recently orphaned young girl from Switzerland - entered the medical field to help heal people. Her studies would end up crossing paths several times with that of Overwatch - a UN-funded taskforce tasked with ending the crisis - due to her association with the team's engineer Torbjörn Lindholm. During one of these meetings, when Ziegler was at Overwatch's main base, she had been invited to take part in a picture with the group, including their leader Jack Morrison - an invitation she accepted. Ultimately, through Morrison's and Ziegler's separate efforts, the crisis would be finished.

Post-Omnic Crisis

Within ten years since the end of the Omnic Crisis, Morrison would find himself as the leader of a now significantly larger Overwatch while Ziegler would earn her doctorate and begin making breakthroughs in medical technology. Morrison ended up reading a paper on one of these breakthroughs - her advancement on nanobiotics - and was impressed enough that he invited Dr. Ziegler for a face-to-face meeting. At Overwatch's headquarters in Switzerland, Morrison commended Dr. Ziegler's efforts for the public and offered her a spot as Overwatch's chief medical researcher. While initially tempted to take Morrison on the offer, Dr. Ziegler was hesitant as she wanted her medical expertise to help heal the public and not to allow more soldiers to kill. Seeing this conflict, Morrison promised that her research would be focused on the public's well being and also promised to get her what she would need to keep her efforts going. Accepting those terms, Dr. Ziegler officially joined Overwatch.

Over her career in Overwatch, Dr. Ziegler would continue developing new technologies to heal while also being pushed to assist in the field, eventually developing the persona of "Mercy" along the way. However, despite Morrison's initial promise that her advancement would be geared towards the public, she still felt that her research was being used for war (such as her unwitting development of the biotic rifle used by Morrison's second-in-command Ana Amari). This had put her at odds with Morrison from time-to-time as she felt this was leading Overwatch down a dark path. Regardless, she still worked with Morrison as, while it wasn't how she envisioned it, she was still helping the public.

Uprising

On one particular day, while an Omnic uprising in the King's Row district of London was occuring, Morrison had approached Mercy while she was assisting in the testing of new recruit Lena Oxton (callsign Tracer). Mercy revealed she was frustrated that the Prime Minister forbade Overwatch from doing anything to help with the uprising, which fed into Morrison's own doubts about following those orders. This, combined with later talking to Tracer, finally pushed Morrison to defy the Prime Minister's orders. He ordered a small team - comprised of Mercy, Tracer, Torbjörn, and the veteran Reinhardt Wilhelm - to go to King's Row and end the uprising while he, Ana, and his friend Gabriel Reyes would stay at HQ and guide them. Before leaving, Morrison asked Mercy, in particular, to keep an eye Tracer. Through all of their efforts, the uprising would be ended, but would also begin Overwatch's downfall. The increasing militarization of the organization would finally force Mercy to leave, while Morrison would disappear - nearly dying when the headquarters was destroyed during his fight with Reyes.

Valkyrie

Ever since leaving Overwatch, Mercy continued providing humanitarian relief across the globe, eventually landing in Cairo to help undo what Overwatch did in the region. It's during her time in Cairo that she would accidentally reunite with Morrison - now known as the mercenary Soldier: 76 - while he was hunting for Reyes (now known as the Talon agent Reaper) and finding the truth of Overwatch's dissolution. Mercy was not happy to be faced with her past again and tried to persuade him away from his path of vengeance - a plea that fell on deaf ears. Mercy would eventually relent and work with Morrison again when Reaper appeared and began terrorizing the city, eventually separating with him (along with Ana) pursuing the Talon operative while she helped the civilians caught in the crossfire. The following day, they would reunite at a camp where Mercy was helping treat refugees from the attack. Having discovered that Reaper was heading for Europe, Morrison asked if Mercy would join him in the pursuit - an offer she refused, though without hard feelings as they noted that they walk different paths now. As Morrison and Ana left, Mercy began doubting if she would ever see them again after that.

Fanon

Many consider the two the "Mom and Dad" of the Overwatch team. Fan art will depict the two surrounded by baby versions of the other Overwatch heroes.

On AO3 it is the second most written ship for Soldier: 76, and the fourth most written for Mercy.

Support for it slowly dwindled after it was confirmed by Overwatch lead writer Michael Chu that Soldier:76 was gay and had a former lover named Vincent. In the comics, Soldier: 76 kept a photo of himself and Vincent, which he viewed at Christmas. This hinted that he may still have had feelings for Vincent.
