Meteggman is the family ship between Doctor Eggman and Metal Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom.

Games[]
Sonic CD[]
Doctor Eggman created Metal Sonic as an effort to match the actual Sonic. The mad doctor first unleashed his creation during his capture of Little Planet and the subsequent hunt for the Time Stones. Across the planetoid, Eggman and Metal encountered Sonic in an attempt to stop the Blue Blur from interfering. The two finally worked together on Stardust Speedway to try and beat Sonic: with Metal racing his counterpart while Eggman chased him with a laser wall. This combination wouldn't work as Metal would be defeated in this race and Eggman eventually had to abandon Metal when Sonic managed to foil his scheme.
Sonic Mania/Sonic the Hedgehog 4[]
In the Classic timeline, Eggman tries to make contact with Metal Sonic from his Press Garden base and finally manages to do so. Then, using his newly-acquired Phantom Ruby, he warps himself to Little Planet so he could find his creation. He manages to find Metal and get him operating before sic'ing him on Sonic, Tails , and Knuckles - who were also transported there by the Ruby. Much like the last time, Eggman assists his creation as he battles Team Sonic, including activating hazards, sending an earlier prototype of Metal as backup, and even lending him the Phantom Ruby to enhance himself. None of this, however, helps as Metal Sonic is ultimately beaten again and Eggman is forced to leave while also transporting Team Sonic away.
In the Modern timeline, when Little Planet makes its yearly appearance, Eggman manages to make contact with Metal Sonic and get him to leave Little Planet. After getting Metal repaired and upgraded at Mad Gear Zone, Eggman sends him to the Lost Labyrinth Zone to acquire a mysterious orb within. Metal manages to find the orb and becomes enhanced by it. Both Eggman and the enhanced Metal Sonic would then battle Sonic and Tails separately before working together against the duo onboard the Death Egg mk.II. Despite this teamup and Metal's new power, the both of them would be defeated by Sonic and Tails.
Sonic Heroes[]
At some point, Metal Sonic obtained a new "Neo" form and it made him believe he was the one to rule the world. To that end, Metal rebelled against Eggman: imprisoning his creator and taking over his empire by using his new form's shapeshifting abilities to assume Eggman's appearance. Neo Metal Sonic then used his new resources to gather the bio-data on various heroes as well as Chaos in order to ascend to an even more powerful form. Eggman eventually manages to get Team Chaotix to free him before sadly telling them about Metal's betrayal. The four of them soon join Teams Sonic, Dark, and Rose in watching Neo Metal Sonic ascend into his Metal Overlord form. Eggman is disheartened by this as he tells the heroes about Neo Metal being empowered - before being shocked that they have the Chaos Emeralds. Eggman watches as the four teams work together to defeat Metal Overlord, which causes him to revert back to his regular Metal Sonic form. Eggman would eventually recover Metal and repair him - while also making sure he's totally loyal from now on.
IDW Comics[]
Eggman War and Aftermath[]
With his war against the Resistance going on, Eggman decided to have Metal Sonic primed for the final battle. He stowed his creation away to have him upgraded while using phantom copies of Metal for the rest of the war. Eggman reenabled Metal's Neo form, loosened the requirements for his ultimate form, and even provided Neo Metal with his bio-data to give him his genius and drive for conquest. However, Metal's upgrades were finished too late as, by the time he was ready, the Resistance had won the war and Eggman had mysteriously vanished. Despite his new power and drive, Neo Metal was still loyal to Eggman and believed his creator was the only worthy ruler of the world. To that end, Neo Metal once again used his shapeshifting to take on Eggman's appearance and took control of his empire.
With the Eggman Empire under his control, Neo Metal Sonic went about to achieve three objectives: secure the Master Emerald on Angel Island, subtly direct rogue Badniks to eliminate the Resistance, and find Eggman so that he can give him control of his empire. But the Resistance manages to defeat Neo Metal on Angel Island, reducing him back to his base form before being repaired and deweaponized by Sonic and Tails. Despite Sonic telling Metal he can start anew without Eggman around, the robotic hedgehog instead escapes and manages to find his way to the Final Egg base. There, Metal finally finds Eggman - having been brought there by a scientist named Doctor Starline. However, Eggman was suffering from amnesia and believed himself to be a more benevolent inventor named "Mr. Tinker", something Starline has been struggling to fix as he considers an emotional trigger may be required. Metal Sonic soon makes his presence known and "Mr. Tinker" frets about his state of disrepair - which, as Starline predicted, served as the final push for him to remember that he was Doctor Eggman. Now back to normal, Eggman got to work repairing Metal while he prepares for a new plan.
The Metal Virus[]
Metal Sonic stands by and assists Eggman as he unleashes his new Metal Virus across the world. During this, however, Starline - who'd been initially enamored by Eggman's genius but started becoming disillusioned - went behind Eggman's back and recruited the Deadly Six to control the Zombots created by the virus. Finding out about this, Eggman responds by sending Metal Sonic to fight the Zeti only for the leader Zavok to use his powers to control Metal. After Starline fails to get the Zeti under control, the controlled Metal is sent to attack him and Eggman, only for all three to fall through one of Starline's portals to escape. The three end up on Angel Island - where the remains of the Restoration has set up base, with Metal Sonic quickly moving to defend his creator from them. Metal stands by as Eggman explains to the Restoration what happened to his plan and how to stop it. However, when Starline decides to leave and deal with the Metal Virus on his own, Eggman responds by having Metal Sonic grab the platypus - giving Eggman the chance to take Starline's Warp Topaz before having Metal throw him through the portal he already opened.
With the Topaz in hand, Metal Sonic watches as Eggman works with Tails to build a portal device so the Restoration can fight the Deadly Six to obtain the Chaos Emeralds from them. During this, Sonic - whose currently fighting a Metal Virus infection - presses his robotic doppelganger on why he still sided with Eggman despite being given a fresh start. Eggman points out to his nemesis that Metal Sonic still had a desire for battle and conquest and it was only a matter of time before he wanted to become a threat again. When Sonic points out that the only reason Metal still had that desire was because he and his friends thought Eggman was dealt with, the doctor admits that's true. Before long, the portal device is complete and Eggman and Metal Sonic watch as the Restoration mobilizes.
The Restoration returns with most of the Chaos Emeralds and now have to get the last one from Zavok, who launches a direct attack on Angel Island. Seeing that Sonic needs help to get the Emerald, Eggman has Metal Sonic assist his nemesis - which ultimately helps as Sonic obtains it and enters his Super form alongside Silver. Metal Sonic and Eggman watch as the Super-powered hedgehogs absorb the Metal Virus from the world and send it away. In the aftermath, Eggman escapes Angel Island with Metal having "rescued" Orbot and Cubot from the Restoration. During this escape, Eggman sees that Shadow is pursuing them and has Metal hold the Ultimate Lifeform off enough to get away.
Battle for the Empire[]
Within the under-construction Eggperial City, Eggman learns of an assault conducted by a pair of individuals named Surge and Kit that oddly resemble Sonic and Tails. Not taking chances, Eggman sends Metal Sonic to deal with the intruders only to get enraged when they manage to critically damage his creation. To make matters worse for Eggman, Starline - Surge's and Kit's creator - manages to take control of Eggperial City and its Badniks. Eggman, however, manages to defeat him with Metal Sonic returning to him almost immediately afterwards. Eggman is surprised to learn that Belle the Tinkerer was the one to repair Metal Sonic and offers her to rejoin him as thanks. After she refuses, Eggman and Metal Sonic return to the city's central tower to regain control.
Back in control, Eggman turns his attention to Sonic and Tails, who had infiltrated earlier and defeated their respective "imposters". During Eggman's pursuit of Sonic, Metal Sonic became incensed by his doppelganger's taunts and moved to confront him. But Eggman, seeing Sonic was just baiting them, stops Metal and instead has him locate Sonic's friends and making sure that Belle, in particular, was intact. Metal would eventually locate the group and pursue them to the city's outer wall. Before he can get them, an explosion from the control tower goes off and Sonic mocks Metal for needing to see if Eggman was okay - which he does.
Overclocked[]
After some time and repairs, Eggman and Metal Sonic manage to locate the late Starline's base and go there to retrieve the Dynamo Cage - a device that Surge took earlier and was the cause of the explosion. Inside, the two find Sonic and Tails and Metal immediately goes to attack his counterpart much to Eggman's annoyance. Eggman would end up confronted by Surge and end up overpowered by her. Eggman's screams as she tries to finish him cause Metal Sonic to break off from Sonic and defend him, allowing the two to drive Surge away. After this, Metal stands by as Eggman, Sonic, and Tails agree to a truce to defeat Surge and reclaim the Dynamo Cage. As they search the base for Surge with the heroes, Eggman tells Metal to not help the duo if Surge only targets them.
The quartet soon find Surge and Kit as Eggman stands by while Metal joins the heroes in fighting them. During this, Surge tries to attack Eggman again, only for Metal to defend him again. When Metal entraps Surge in his Black Shield, Eggman gloats about how effective his creations were - only for Surge to use the Dynamo Cage to absorb Metal's power and deactivate him. Eggman soon notes the Cage is going to overload soon and begins repairing Metal in the hope of doing something about it. By the time Metal is back online, the Cage has overloaded and Surge is now weakened. Eggman orders Metal to get the Cage and Surge but this is stopped when Kit destroys the room and gets Surge out of there. Metal tries to save Eggman from the destruction only for both to get buried under rubble. Luckily both are unharmed and, after deciding to spare Sonic and Tails like initially agreed, make their way back to Eggperial City.
Urban Warfare[]
Sometime after returning, Eggman and Metal Sonic witness the Restoration assault the city. After Eggman rectifies a power surge in the city caused by Shadow, he and Metal witness the new Diamond Cutters appear before them, with Eggman realizing they were victims of the Spatial-Displacement Trap he activated earlier. Metal watches as Eggman traps Whisper and Lanolin in improved Spatial-Displacement Traps before the doctor sends him to capture Tangle when she escapes the tower. This pursuit leads Metal to the rest of the Restoration group with Metal accidentally chasing part of them back to the control room. Eggman admonishes Metal for bringing this chaos and tells him that he's getting a very strict software patch later. Until then, the two fight the group until Tails manages to deactivate the limiter on the city's power units - which are very large fake Chaos Emeralds that start growing out of control as a result.
With the control tower now in walker mode, Eggman manages to capture Sonic in a Spatial-Displacement Trap. He then sends Metal Sonic to subdue Tails and Amy while he grabs Tangle so they can meet Sonic's fate. However, while disabling the limiter, Tails also managed to disable the traps - which freed all the captives, including Whisper who bashes Eggman directly into Metal Sonic to break everyone out. Panicking at his plan falling apart, Eggman orders Metal Sonic to crush the Restoration before they can escape, only for Sonic to send Metal out a nearby window. Without other recourse, Eggman controls his control tower mech to fight the Restoration while Metal Sonic rejoins the fight atop a Turtloid. Both were soon defeated as the Restoration leaves as the remains of Eggperial City begin crumbling around them.
Fanon[]
Meteggman is a ship in the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom that's become particularly popular. From Metal's debut in CD, his value to Eggman as the ultimate weapon against Sonic has been hammered in to fans for years. Given how prized Metal Sonic is to Eggman, many started thinking he was treating Metal like a favorite child. In that vain, the events of Heroes are seen as similar to that favorite child rebelling against their parent. Notably, fans noticed SEGA began playing this view up in recent years, particularly in the IDW comics with Eggman being shown to treat Metal like a son. Although Metal Sonic didn't appear in Frontiers, it ended up being a significant game for fans of this ship as it confirms Eggman sees all of his creations as his children to various degrees. This revelation also started up discussions by fans on who between Metal and Sage - who Eggman more explicitly treated as his daughter - that he sees as his favorite.
On AO3, this ship has 65 tagged works. It's Metal Sonic's third-most written ship behind Metonic and Metamy.
