Midain is the het ship between Midir and Edain from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Midir and Edain are two playable characters in Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War. Edain is the daughter of the Duke of Yngvi (a part of Grannvale kingdom). Midir was an archer knight of Yngvi. He became Edain's bodyguard and develop a crush on her.
On the begining of the game most Grannvale's forces are fighting the kingdom of Isaach. During her father's absence Edain is in charge of Yngvi. Unlike most of the Yngvi's army, Midir stay to protect the dukedom. The neighbour's kingdom Verdan took advantage of the fact that most Grannvale's forces are away to attack the country. Led by Munnir (Verdan's prince) Verdan's forces invade Yngvi. Midir try to protect the castle and fight Munnir but is defeated and imprisoned in the dungeon. Edain is kidnapped by Munnir who take her to Verdan. Sigurd (the heir to the dukedom next to Yngvi and Edain childhood friend) go to fight Verdan to defend the country against the invasion and to save his friend. Sigurd reconquere Yngvi and free Midir who join his army. Jamke (Verdan's youngest prince) disagree with the invasion and free Edain alongside the thief Dew (who is asked to protect her).
When Edain reach Sigurd's army she has a conversation with Midir. Midir apologies for failing to protect her. She answer that he gave his all to protect me, that she couldn't thank him enough for that and that she is glad that he is alright. If they reach enough love points together they will wed. If in chapter 4 they are married together they will have a special conversation. Edain has bought a brave bow to Midir . Midir say that be with Edain is all he ever wanted in life. Edain answers that she feel the same and ask him to just call her Edain.
At the end of chapter 5, Sigurd is betrayed and killed by Arvis. Most of his army died with him. Midir perishes alongside several of his fellow comrades. However, Edain manages to escape and to Isaach (where some members of the army has sent their children to safety). She becomes an abbess in Tirnanog. She raises her own children Lana and Lester, and acts as a mother figure to Seliph, Diarmuid/Tristan, Larcei/Creidne, and Scáthach/Dalvin. In the second generation, her two children that she has with her husband are playable. Her daughter Lana inherits her class and inventory, while her son Lester inherit his father's inventory and his class if Midir is the father.
Fanon[]
Midain is a popular ship for both Midir and Edain. It's often chosen in game. It's principally shipped for strategiques purpose: Midir will give decent stats to both Lana and Lester, he will give them the useful skill Pursuit and will be able to pass weapons to Lester. Marrying Midir with Edain is also one of only two ways to obtain the powerful Brave Bow. Also Midir is often chosen to be Lester father because thanks to is high mobility it's easy to make him kill enemies and give kill points to his weapons. This ship is also liked for the bodyguard crush aspect.
Midain's main rival is Jamkedain. For strategic reasons some player prefer to pair Edain with Jamke: like Midir he can give bows to Lester, he gives to both children the skill adept, and give generally better stats than Midir to Lester. Marrying Jamke with Edain is also only other way to get the Brave Bow. However, Midir is sometimes prefered for different reasons: Lana will have a worst magic with Jamke as her father than with Midir, Midir will give to the children the coveted Pursuit skill while Jamke can't. Some players prefer to keep Jamke for someone else (generally Brigid or Ayra). Midir is sometimes accused of being a flat character only characterized by his love for Edain while Jamke is considered to be a character with much potential.
The others main rivals on Edain's side are Claudain and Azeldain. The players who choose to pair Edain with Azelle or Claud focuse on Lana. She will have great magic stats and a rapid access to the rescue staff. However Lester won't be very good with those pairings.
On Midir's side the main rival is Midir x Brigid. Brigid is the only other love interest for Midir that has special conversations with him. If Midir marry Brigid their children will gain the Pursuit skill. However Patty won't be able to inherit weapons from her father.
In general, hey are usually a background couple in fanfiction.

- In the manga adaptations by Nuts Fujimori and by Nea Fuyuki, Midir and Edain are in married (however since the later is about the second generation we don't see their interactions).
