Miego is the het ship between Mia Fey and Diego Armando from the Ace Attorney fandom.
Canon[]
Trials and Tribulations[]
Mia and Diego were both defense attorneys at Grossberg Law Offices circa 2013-2014, a few years before the events of the first game. Diego's served as co-counsel for Mia during her first case of her law career. Diego teases Mia with the nickname "kitten" but supports her through the trial, even telling her that "a lawyer is someone who smiles no matter how bad it gets" – a philosophy Mia would adopt and eventually pass on to her mentee, Phoenix Wright.
At some point after Mia's first trial, the two begin dating (according to their boss, Marvin Grossberg, who calls Diego Mia's boyfriend). Their relationship was short lived, however, as only a few months later Diego is poisoned by Dahlia Hawthorne. Diego is hospitalized and left in a comatose state; three years later, Mia is murdered.
In 2018, Diego wakes from his coma only to learn the painful news of Mia's death. Resolving to avenge her, Diego rebrands himself as "Godot" and becomes a prosecutor to "do battle" with Phoenix, who he blames for not protecting Mia. The two are able to meet briefly when Mia's spirit is channeled during a few of Phoenix's trials. Diego is ultimately arrested for killing Misty Fey, though he is able to make amends with Phoenix. Afterwards, Mia's spirit tells Phoenix that he actually saved Diego, despite the circumstances.
Fanon[]
Miego appears to be the most popular ship involving Mia Fey, likely bolstered by its basis in canon. The other popular pairing for Mia is Lanamia, which pairs Mia with law school classmate and former Chief Prosecutor, Lana Skye. A fair amount of Miego content incorporates a history of Lanamia, since a popular interpretation is that Mia dated Lana in college before beginning her relationship with Diego. Similar to Phoenix, many fans interpret Mia as bisexual due to her canon past with Diego and implied past with Lana.
Diego becomes a prosecutor after Mia's death, meaning the two only knew each other and dated as defense attorneys. Many Ace Attorney ships are built from the cross-courtroom tension between the defense and prosecution. This might explain the popularity of Lanamia in tandem with Miego, as Lana served as a prosecutor for two years before Mia died, meaning the two could have faced off against each other in court.
Diego's status within the fandom is marked by discourse. Some interpret his interactions with women as slightly misogynistic, mostly due to a comment he makes during "Bridge to the Turnabout" to Franziska von Karma: "Know your role, and shut your mouth. I can't stand women like you." However, others assert that the line's meaning was bungled in translation, a product of the game's time, or was just a result of Diego putting on a hardened, arrogant persona as Godot.
