Mikorrin is the family ship between Mikoto and Corrin from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Fates[]
Corrin was born to Mikoto after she fell in love with an amnesic man she was taking care of. However, this man would soon remember that he's a fragment of the Silent Dragon Anankos and knew his lover and child were in danger from his insane half. To solve that, Mikoto fled with her infant child out of Valla and to the kingdom of Hoshido. The two were welcomed by the rulers Sumeragi and Ikona, with Mikoto later becoming Sumeragi's wife following the passing of Ikona. As a result, Corrin ended up becoming a step-sibling to Sumeragi's and Ikona's children, although only the eldest - Ryoma - knew about it with the others believing Corrin was Sumeragi's and Mikoto's child. Tragedy would occur when Corrin was kidnapped by Garon, the king of Hoshido's rival Nohr. Mikoto wouldn't give up on getting Corrin back, and waited for an opportunity to do so.
Many years later, Mikoto would finally get her chance when an older Corrin is found and brought before her. She's glad to reunite with her child but Corrin - having only known Nohr's royal family as their family until now - is in disbelief Mikoto is their mother. Mikoto explains to Corrin the night of their kidnapping and shows them their childhood room to try and make them remember but it doesn't work even though they do believe her. Mikoto soon comes to understand it's because Corrin feels like a stranger in Hoshido since they've spent more time in Nohr. Regardless, she expresses her belief that they could become a family again.
After a few days, Mikoto decides to hold a festival to tell Hoshido about Corrin's return. The two head for the plaza to join in only for a mysterious cloaked figure to arrive. The figure takes Ganglari - Corrin's sword "gifted" to them by Garon - and detonates it, blowing up the plaza and sending shrapnel Corrin's way. Not wanting to see Corrin hurt, Mikoto jumps in front of the Ganglari shards and takes them in her back. Clutched in Corrin's arms, Mikoto weakly asks if they're hurt and is glad to know they're okay - before succumbing to her wounds. Corrin is distraught by their mother's death and it causes their draconic blood to fully manifest, turning into a dragon and rampaging against the cloaked figure and the invisible soldiers that soon appear. After calming down with help from Azura, Corrin feels immense guilt that they're the reason Mikoto died although Hoshidan tactician Yukimura reveals Mikoto knew she would die, anyway, and notes Mikoto wouldn't have wanted them to blame themselves for something Garon and others had been planning.
Conquest[]
Following Corrin taking a nearly fatal blow from a possessed Takumi, they seemingly wake up in their childhood room with Mikoto there. Mikoto tries to get her child up since they promised to train with Ryoma, but Corrin finds they're still quite sleepy. Mikoto understands Corrin's want to sleep and even wants it so they could be together forever - but tells them that's selfish because they have so much left to do. At that, Mikoto is joined by Ryoma as the two remind Corrin that they died and the possessed Takumi is still on the outside battling Corrin's army. As Corrin regains the will to live, Mikoto proclaims how proud she is of their scant times together and promises she will love them regardless of what they do or who stands by - with Corrin promising to make their mother proud. Corrin soon wakes up and joins their army in defeating the possessed Takumi.
Revelation[]
After their army manages to enter Valla Castle to defeat Anankos, Corrin suddenly gets separated and is met by a watery replica of Mikoto. Although Mikoto tries to explain she's real, Corrin - having held their mother as she died - immediately decries her as a puppet of Anankos before moving to attack her. They falter, however, upon realizing Mikoto wasn't moving to block or evade their attack - prompting her to point out she has Mikoto's soul and will even if Anankos controls her. This convinces Corrin to let them hear her out, which Mikoto uses to explain that there's a maze ahead and she knows the safe way through. Mikoto soon departs while asking her child to stop Anankos and save her, allowing Corrin to reconnect with their forces and move on ahead.
Reaching the maze, Mikoto guides Corrin's group by pointing out the blue doors that are safe and the red doors that are not safe to go through. This goes until Mikoto reveals the final set of doors are suddenly inversed (red being safe and blue not safe). If Corrin's force goes through the last red door, they're critically injured. However, if Corrin defies Mikoto and goes through the blue door, she's shocked Corrin knew she was lying as they explain it was something in her voice. Regardless of choice, Mikoto now expresses her desire to kill Corrin so the two of them can be together forever under Anankos' service. Mother and child soon confront each other directly, ending with Mikoto being critically wounded.
Lying on the ground, Mikoto apologizes to Corrin for trying to decieve them. Corrin points out she's not at fault, it was Anankos that brought her back and used her as a puppet to kill them. After briefly talking with her Hoshidan step-children, Mikoto thanks Corrin for freeing her, reveals how proud she is of how far they've come, and telling them to save the tears they're shedding for when they're victorious. She then tells Corrin about their Vallite heritage and warning of another of Anankos' guardians in their path - before her body finally evaporates and dies again. Now more determined than ever, Corrin rallies their forces to press ahead - all the while promising their mother that they'll bring peace for her sake.
Fanon[]
Mikorrin is a rare ship in the Fire Emblem fandom, even within Fates' subsect. As Fates' version of the "Cornelius" archetype - the parent of a lord character getting killed off early on - many didn't really pay much attention to Mikoto's and Corrin's relationship since it wouldn't matter to them in the long run. However, those that did pay attention saw how Mikoto really wanted to reconnect with her child and Corrin wanting to remember their mother - up until facing the grief of losing her. Their bond even playing into the late game of the Conquest and Revelation routes - including the two fighting in the latter - also made this ship slightly different from previous "Cornelius" relationships. The "Adrift" versions of Corrin and Mikoto released in Heroes also gave fans of the ship a pleasant surprise.
On AO3, there are only 7 tagged works.
