MikuLeek is the cargo ship between Hatsune Miku and a leek from the Vocaloid fandom.
Canon[]
A popular meme within the anime community in the early 2000s, commonly cited as originating from Japanese video sharing site Niconico Douga, was a short loop of Orihime from the anime Bleach waving a Japanese bunching onion to the track Ievan Polkka, a traditional Finnish polka tune. As the edit became more widespread within the anime fandom, tracings of the meme to feature unrelated characters became popular in their own circles, with Miku's trace becoming extraordinarily popular on the fledgling Internet. Due to unfamiliarity with the Japanese bunching onion, Westerners have consistently identified the vegetable in Miku's hand as a leek; however, this is a misconception, possibly aided by the English dub of Bleach referring to the Japanese bunching onion as a leek during its broadcast.
Notably, the upload date of the original Miku leekspin video on YouTube is a mere eight days after the release of the software by Crypton Future Media, which is undoubtedly a factor in both the omnipresence and longstanding effect on Miku's persona. Although many personas have fan-associated iconography, such as a banana for Kagamine Len or a mikan orange for Kagamine Rin, Miku is the only Virtual Singer owned by Crypton to frequently and exclusively use fan iconography both in official media and in collaborations.
Project Diva[]
Miku is often seen with a leek and this includes the Project Diva games. In the song, Miku Miku Ni Shite Ageru by Ika, MV you can see Miku playing with leeks during a part of the song. Another thing to mention is the Project Diva opening movies. In multiple of the opening movies, you can see chibi versions of Miku holding leeks throughout the movie. You can also see Miku holding a leek during the tutorial.
Other Songs[]
One of the other few and well known Vocaloid song involving Miku and vegetables would be PoPiPo by LamazeP. This song features Miku trying tell sell the viewer vegetable juice. In the song, Miku dances, parading around her famous vegetable juice claiming it only costs "100 yen". You can also see other famous Vocaloid characters dressed up in vegetable themed costumes. Although not directly related with leeks, this song shows Miku's passion for vegetables and healthy diet.
Fanon[]
MikuLeek has become a bit of a meme within the Vocaloid community, especially during the early days of the fandom. Lots of fanart during the time involved Miku holding, hugging, playing, ect with a leek. MMD videos around the time also included Miku being obsessed with leeks. Along with the fan creations, Cyrpton and Sega have also used Miku and leeks together in promotional material.
Along with leeks becoming a meme due to the popularity of Ievan Polkka many parodies were created after it. Other characters related to Vocaloid have their own versions of songs related to them obsessing over their character item. As an example BananaLen is another popular cargoship that is similar to MikuLeek.
