Mirivaike is the het ship between Miriel and Vaike from the Fire Emblem fandom.

Canon[]

Vaike is a Fighter and part of the Shepherds serving Prince Chrom, as well as his self-proclaimed rival. He first appears in Chapter 2 when Lissa introduces Robin to the Shepherds after they're taken to Ylisstol before the group heads out on a quest to North Ferox; on the way there they encounter a group of rogue Risen which they decide to fight, however Vaike finds out he misplaced his axe and is defenseless, but quickly afterwards the mage Miriel arrives with his axe in hand, then gives it to him then reprimands Vaike for his forgetfulness.

C-A Support Conversations[]

In their C Support Vaike unintentionally annoys Miriel during one of her lectures when his training involves a lot of shouting (or according to her, "caterwauling"). Vaike tells her his reasons for shouting is that when one trains, they got to give it their all which she agrees on. She then believes Vaike has been thoroughly calculating his attacks and every move in battle like she would with her way of thinking, but later ends up even more interested when Vaike admits that he more or less relies on his instinct to fight rather than use any complex technique; with this Miriel vows to watch Vaike closely in battle to better investigate his battle instinct.

In their B Support Miriel has been observing Vaike's fighting style as she said she would and observed that whenever Vaike shouted it gave him an opening to better attack the foe and concludes that war cries impact the psychology of enemies. Vaike is confused when she tries to explain the principle to him through a planet and the Sun metaphor based on her mother's book discoveries about the planets revolving around the Sun all which confuses Vaike as he believes she means the ground will literally spin while Miriel clarifies they can't test if it's what happens, Vaike simply remarks that it must be similar to him spinning his weapon which Miriel agrees since she sees the centrifugal force the spinning creates. The two agree to keep on chatting as friends.

In their A Support Vaike is perplexed when Miriel continues hanging out with him despite him seeing her as too smart to be a close friend, Miriel simply replies that Vaike has a lot of spirit that she lacks and she enjoys the knowledge she obtains from interacting and talking with him. Vaike is surprised and remarks that he likes talking to her too and he guesses they're now friends, though Miriel says she sees him as an interesting subject to observe. Vaike then invites Miriel to hang out together around town which Miriel accepts.

S Support and Ending[]

In their S Support, Miriel greets Vaike rather informally and calls him her friend multiple times something that Vaike notes by telling Miriel that as friends they can be comfortable around each other to not need to repeat their status multiple times; Miriel apologizes rather nervously and blushing which Vaike notices and tells her about. Miriel believes that something has come over to her after their hangout at the alehouse, which Vaike realizes means she's fallen in love with him, feelings which Miriel is quite surprised by after mistaking it for a malady. Realizing that she is no longer observing friendship but rather romantic love, Miriel asks Vaike to help her with this "investigation" which Vaike does by proposing to her, Miriel accepts though goes on a rather verbose response which Vaike takes as a "yes" then tells her to come with him to get a ring and Vaike ultimately has to fully convince Miriel that it is the best symbol of a union as opposed to a contract or something else.

After the defeat of Grima, Vaike returned to the streets where he grew, now as a renowned hero of the land while Miriel remains in Ylisse doing research when not paired with any other character, in their paired ending Miriel instead accompanies Vaike where she adapted to his more informal lifestyle without losing her own sharp mind and tongue in it.

Fanon[]

Mirivaike is a fairly popular ship in the fandom, this is owed up to their dynamic of "dumb/reckless" husband and "smart/thoughtful" wife. It's also seen as having very good supports with a fairly good development of the two's relationship from acquaintances to friends and finally lovers when S Rank is achieved. Similarly their dynamic with Laurent (Miriel's canonical son who can be potentially fathered by Vaike) is also liked due to it fitting with the usual Laurent-Father supports in regards to some aspects Laurent points out. That Miriel and Vaike are quite slower to fully reach S Support does little to detract from its popularity.

Within the fandom it is the most popular ship for both Vaike and Miriel, it faces some slight competition from other Vaike ships like Vaikelly, Kellmiri, and Stahriel, albeit it being a slightly less known ship prevents much, if any, issues to arise between either shipping fandom. It is also common for the fandom to keep up the humorous portrayal of their dynamic between Vaike's forgetfulness and Miriel's sharp mind to drive them further together despite all the oddities that arise, as well as causing their son Laurent to feel quite embarrassed at times by Vaike's less thoughtful manners.

Trivia[]

  • Laurent mentions that his father was forgetful and often misplaced things which his mother took care of giving back. This is a common trait of Vaike, with Miriel even being introduced when she hands the warrior the axe he misplaced.
