Mitsunene is the friendship between Mitsuba Sousuke and Yashiro Nene from the Toilet-bound Hanako-kun fandom.

Canon

Prior to the story, Mitsuba took pictures for Nene's gardening club back in middle school, but the two did not formally meet until the Hell of Mirrors Arc after the disembodied hands brought her to him.

At first sight, she thought that he looked handsome, cute and prince-like, but Mitsuba quickly shattered that impression by commenting on how fat Nene's ankles looked. Mitsuba then explained that he was trapped in the boundary and he purposefully acted cute and innocent in front of Nene so that she could feel bad for him and try to help him out.

Nene then think that Mitsuba is only acting cocky cause he's scared and decides not to get to mad at him for making fun of her but Mitsuba makes faces at her behind her back.

Later, he revealed that he does not remember anything about his former life or the cause of his death, and that's likely why the mirror boundary hadn't attacked him yet but they still had no idea.

When the 3rd School Mystery's minions began attacking them and Nene was caught, Mitsuba tried to help out by throwing items at her attacker, but instead he ended up getting caught.

Mitsuba also seems to be pretty fond of Nene as a Senpai despite insulting her at first. He tried his best to protect her from falling debris. And tried to impress her by exclaiming that he's gotten braver now, and he hoped that she would be impressed. Even though Nene didn't understand what he meant. When he forcefully pulled Nene and her friends out of the mirror boundary, he thanked her and then told her to keep quiet, and that they would see each other again. Nene holds him to his promise and looks foward to their next meeting.

Nene has decided to take on the role of a Senpai/Older Sister Figure towards Mitsuba since he is younger and more inexperienced ,she is also very nice towards him despite him making fun of one of her biggest insecurities. She also seems to think of him as a puppy, and is worried about his well-being, especially whenever he's around Tsukasa.

The two remain close throughout the series and Nene seems concerned whenever Kou talks about Mitsuba.

Fanon

The ship sailed as a result of Mitsuba and Nene's friendship and how funny their interactions were. A lot of people love how the two still care for each other despite Mitsuba's cocky attitude they still managed to form a close bond. Fans like to joke around and say that Mitsuba is Nene's "Gay Best Friend" and that she just tends to roll with it. Some people ship Mitsunene romantically, but it naturally loses popularity towards the two's more popular ships, Mitsukou and Hananene.

• Due to the Original Mitsuba dying at the hands of Tsukasa, Nene was technically the first friend that the new Mitsuba ever made.
