- Heh... I used to think I would spend my whole life facing this alone, until I met you... someone who can turn the world on its head, who can bend the will of the gods themselves... Someone who's willing to accept my weaknesses, with no shortage of dreams to share... Perhaps, in a way, I've become your "patient," as well.

Tapirus Somniator Chapter: Mizuki's Story Quest[]

Lumine and Mizuki first meeting.
Lumine first met Mizuki after she and Paimon were approached by a Yumekui-Baku on the outskirts of Inazuma City, who led them to Mizuki who sat alone at the beach. Concerned for her well-being, the two approach only to be accidentally sucked into her dream where they witnessed Mizuki devouring the nightmares of various people from Inazuma. When they heard her coughing after devouring a nightmare from the latest people in the waiting line, Lumine approached Mizuki in worry. However, mistaking Lumine as one of her "patients," she devoured Lumine's dream which she finds delicious. Realizing she just ate a good dream instead of a nightmare, which goes against the Yumekui-Baku race's rule, she apologized to the two uninvited guests before taking them out of her dream.
Returning to the real world, Mizuki introduced herself to the two, revealing that she already knows of them thanks to their reputation and from someone she knows who always talks about the Traveler. Concerned for Lumine's mental state after she ate her good dream, Mizuki then offers them a VIP pass for the Aisa Bathhouse.
Arriving at the Aisa Bathouse, Lumine and Paimon redeemed their VIP Pass at the reception and learnt from the owner, Aikawa Susumu, that the bathhouse had been struggling to attract clients. Inside, they once again met Mizuki along with two of the bathhouse's attendants, Murasaki and Shion. Mizuki explained that their VIP pass will grant them free access to the Bathhouse's services, the spa, in-house dining, and psychological consultation. Mizuki delegated Paimon's care to Shion, whilst she tended to Lumine.

Once they were alone, Lumine asked if Mizuki assigned Paimon to Shion so she could treat Lumine herself. Mizuki confirmed her answer, explaining she wanted to learn about Lumine's unique psychology for herself. Mizuki invited Lumine to take a seat and asked her to close her eyes whilst she prepared for their session. During this segment, the player could choose to make Lumine peek at Mizuki. Doing this would cause Mizuki to gently chide Lumine, however, if the player made Lumine keep her eyes closed, Mizuki rewarded her obedience with a headpat. When Lumine opened her eyes, Mizuki showed her a painting, a scene of some animals playing in a forest, and asked her to spot three Yumekui-Baku in the painting. The three Baku exited the painting and appeared behind Mizuki. As she began to feel sleepy, Mizuki asked Lumine to take her hand and focus on the feeling of it.
As she entered into a pitch-black dream, Lumine heard Mizuki's voice calling her towards her. As she followed the sound of her voice, Mizuki described the taste of Lumine's negative emotions, her bad memories being manifested as she continued. As Mizuki came back into Lumine's view, these manifestations quickly faded, the scene changed to a beach, with Mizuki waiting for her.
As Lumine woke up, Mizuki concluded their first session, Paimon entered the room, having also finished her treatment. When Mizuki asks how Lumine feels, she responded that she felt cozy. However, Mizuki recommends more treatment, stating that Lumine's repressed negative emotions overwhelmed her, but was unable to find any bad dreams, theorising they were hidden deep within Lumine's mind. Mizuki invited Lumine to attend further sessions in the future, telling her they would involve taking more naps while they held hands.
As Lumine was about to enjoy the hot springs, Yae Miko arrived and revealed she was the one who had told Mizuki about Lumine, before going on to advise Mizuki that she should sell her Aisa Bathhouse shares before they become worthless. Miko then tells Lumine of the Bathhouse's competitior, Emura Ichigensai, who had been able to steal their clientele with "revolutionary" methods. When Lumine asked Miko to help Mizuki, she refused and left the bathhouse. Mizuki gave her the context that Aisa Bathhouse and Yae Publishing House were technically competitiors, and that she was under the impression this was preventing Miko from helping her.
Lumine and Paimon persuaded Mizuki into allowing them to investigate Emura on her behalf, wanting to keep the bathhouse running. Whilst waiting for her turn to see Emura, Lumine decided to ask the other clients for information, who express their annoyance at the bathhouse's alleged poor service and reverence for Emura's technique. After this, Lumine fell asleep, appearing in a dreamscape with a floating eye encouraging the other people there to let go of their pain. When the eye noticed Lumine's presence, it attacked, only for Lumine to deflect its blows back towards it. Wounded, the eye ejected them from the space. When Lumine came to, it was her turn to see Emura. Unfortunately, he had already finished for the day and had closed his practise.
Returning to the Bathhouse, Lumine and Paimon shared most of their findings. With these, Mizuki and Murasaki connected that Ichigensai was actually Emura Chuuya, a former client who was banned from the Bathhouse for being hostile and argumentative. Just as their investigation wrapped up, two of Emura's clients showed up at the bathhouse, asking for appointments. Mizuki expressed her gratitude to Lumine and Paimon and invited them to enjoy the hot springs and snacks which they had missed out on earlier.

Lumine finds Mizuki crying by the beach.
When Lumine and Paimon finished, they noticed that Mizuki was nowhere to be found. After returning to the beach where they first met, they found Mizuki in tears from the bad dreams she had just finished digesting. Mizuki explained that as a baku who's made an effort to connect with human emotions, she felt the emotions packed in bad dreams much more keenly than regular baku, before reassuring them that they didn't need to worry about her. Mizuki asked Lumine if she would allow her to rid her of her mental burdens if she had the ability. After pondering her question, Lumine concluded that her struggles were part of who she was and that she would rather hold onto them. In Mizuki's eyes, this was what set Lumine apart from other people. Before the two parted ways for the night, Mizuki thanked Lumine for caring enough to come find her.
The next day, Lumine and Paimon arrived at the bathhouse to find Shion and Murasaki ill from eating the bad dreams of Emura Chuuya's former clients. According to Mizuki, the only way she could begin treating them was to track down the clients in question and learn the causes of their bad dreams, prompting her to ask Lumine to help her find them. Finding the clients outside Emura's practise again, Mizuki and Lumine discovered them in a state of mania. Entering their subconcious's, Mizuki was able to project their repressed emotions for Lumine and Paimon to see, revealing that these are what eventually grow into nightmares. Mizuki asked Lumine if anything was amiss when she visited the day prior. Lumine shares her encounter with the malicious eye while she had been asleep. This sent Mizuki into a panic, as she worried Emura's clients would suffer permanent mental damage if they didn't intervene. After pressuring the clients, Mizuki learned that Emura had taken the day off after the previous day had left him exhausted.
Having learnt how to treat Shion and Murasaki's indigestion, Lumine urged Mizuki to return to the Bathhouse and to leave Emura to her. Reluctant to continue accepting her aid, Mizuki compromised and instead asked her not to confront him alone.
Obtaining Emura's address from Miko, Lumine wrote to Mizuki to ask her to meet up outside. Once they had gathered outside, Mizuki urged Lumine and Paimon to keep close to avoid being harmed and the three entered inside, entering into a cave and being returned to the dreamscape Lumine was placed into whilst waiting to see Emura previously. Once inside, Mizuki confronted him and forced him to acknowledge he was currently in the midst of a nightmare. With his facade completely shattered, the eye that attacked Lumine reveals itself once again, going by the name Kuroyume, Mizuki explained that this was a species of youkai who historically sought refuge inside nightmares, which pitted them against the Yumekui-Baku as natural enemies, and that Kuroyume was the very last of his kind, believed to have gone extinct long ago. Kuroyume explained that he planned to revive his species before fleeing. Lumine and Mizuki gave chase, before falling into a pit.
Mizuki used her powers to break their fall, telling Lumine and Paimon they needed to figure out a way to enable her to eat the nightmare they were contained within, recalling Shion and Murasaki's indigestion from eating Emura's clients bad dreams, Lumine and Paimon expressed their concern for Mizuki, only for her to quickly reassure them. Collecting the essence of Inazuman's sweet dreams along the way, Lumine and Mizuki chased down Kuroyume, confronting him once again. With Kuroyume having grown too powerful and their sweet dreams rapidly depleted, Mizuki was overwhelmed by nightmares and was cast into despair, until Lumine was able to break through the darkness and offer her sweet dream to Mizuki. Revitalised, Mizuki told Lumine her motivation for becoming a psychologist was to help people be more like her.
Combining their powers, Mizuki granted Lumine the strength to defeat Kuroyume. Unfortunately, the cave they had travelled into before entering Emura's nightmare had been rigged to flood in a last-ditch attempt to kill Mizuki. Needing to wake up, Mizuki ordered Lumine and Paimon to jump off the edge, whilst offering to hold her hand in case she was scared.

When Lumine and Paimon woke up underwater, Mizuki dove in and carried them to safety, lifting them into the sky and sharing her power of flight with Lumine so that she could stay airborne independently. Taking her by the hand, Mizuki led Lumine over Inazuma City, where she revealed she had gathered the Yumekui Baku to eat the nightmares of Inazuma's populace. Whilst Paimon stayed behind to watch the Baku at work, Lumine and Mizuki flew higher together, with Mizuki blowing Lumine a kiss and brushing her chin with her tail before the two eventually came to rest on a tree branch on Mt. Yougou.

Mizuki and Lumine being surprised by Paimon.
Sharing a moment alone together under the moonlight, Lumine asked Mizuki if her good dream helped, to which Mizuki agreed. Afterward, their conversation shifted to Mizuki's thoughts on people's inabilities to process their feelings healthily, her past beliefs that Yumekui-Baku only existed to take away people's nightmares, and how she believed with the use of psychotherapy, people could learn to take on their bad dreams themselves. Whilst Mizuki called this wish naive, Lumine told her she thought it was beautiful. Mizuki thanked Lumine for her help, telling her that after meeting her, she now believed this wish to be achieveable. Suddenly, Paimon interrupted the two, which caused them to turn away from each other, Mizuki blushing.
Paimon recounted her experience of watching the Yumekui-Baku feasting on the people's bad dreams, before shifting the conversation to asking Mizuki about scheduling their next appointment at the bathhouse. Mizuki simply told her to ask her again tomorrow, and invited her and Lumine to stay and watch the moon with her.

Trivia[]
- At the end of Mizuki's Story Quest cutscene, Mizuki says to Lumine, "The moon sure is beautiful tonight." In Japanese, a similar phrase, "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" (月が綺麗ですね, Tsuki ga kirei desu ne), is a well-known poetic way of saying "I love you." allusively. It can be used to express romantic feelings indirectly, which is the norm in Japanese culture.
- This phrase is fitting, especially because Mizuki is from Inazuma, as the region is heavily inspired by Japanese culture, history, and traditions. The use of this expression in Mizuki's dialogue could be a deliberate reference to this cultural nuance, adding a deeper layer of meaning to her words.
- Mizuki playfully blows a kiss to Lumine while brushing her tail under her chin, showing flirtation, affection,[1] and teasing.
- Blowing a kiss (投げキッス, Nagekissu) is a cute and flirtatious gesture, often used to express love or affection. While it comes from Western culture, it has become popular in Japan as well.[2]
- Mizuki brushing her tail under Lumine’s chin is a playful and intimate action, similar to how a cat shows affection. This gesture can symbolize teasing, endearment, or closeness.[3]
- After Mizuki invites Lumine and Paimon to watch the moon with her, the game prevents the player from continuing the Story Quest until 6 AM when the sun rises, meaning Lumine and Mizuki stayed out all night together.
- During the 2025 Mikawa Flower Festival event, Lumine and Mizuki encountered three Bake-Danuki who were trapped in a nightmare fuelled by Abyssal corruption. To remedy this, Lumine purified the Abyssal energy which in turn destroyed the Bake-Danuki's nightmares. This can be seen as a parallel to Mizuki's species' ability to consume bad dreams.
