Mommaball is the friendship between Momma McCoy and Greaseball from the Starlight Express fandom.
Canon[]
Bochum Revamp 2018[]
After Momma asks Rusty to race in her place, Greaseball arrives and overhears this. He makes fun of Rusty and asks if he'll be racing in Momma's place. The freight say no way and Greaseball continues to taunt Rusty. He gets his gang involved and they all tell Rusty and Momma to leave. With Rusty eventually saying that he'll race in Momma's place despite Greaseball's taunts. Later as all the trains are trying bet on who will win in the finals, Momma throw's Rusty in as a possibility. The trains all think that's a joke and Greaseball says he'll never be as fast enough to do it.
After Rusty wins and Greaseball crashes, he wines to Dinah about being finished as a racer. Momma suggests that he convert, and Greaseball asks what she means. Momma means that he could be converted to steam, and says that he'd be under his own control if he was. She then starts to sing about the merits of steam, including how diesel is for unbelievers, Greaseball and the others joining in.

Greaseball skates down to where Momma is asking Rusty to take her place in the race. She says that Momma has proven that steamers can go, but only slowly. She jokes that Momma needs to keep it up all night, and asks if Rusty will be racing in her place. When the fuel trucks answer no, Greaseball says that they've proven that steam has had it's day. Rusty goes to defend Momma to Greaseball but Momma stops him before he does. Greaseball continuing to taunt the two.

Mommaball is a rarely explored relationship for most members of the StEx fandom. Mostly due to Greaseball's interactions with her in the show not being very positive. As well as fans preferring to explore Greaseball romantically with Dinah or Electra, and Momma in a familial way with Rusty and the freight. When it is explored it's either with Momma as a mentor figure, or as a boss/employee relationship. As many see Momma as the head of the trainyard that all the trains reside in.
