Monigard is the femslash ship between Edelgard von Hresvelg and Monica von Ochs from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Pre-Academy[]
Monica is a noble of the Adrestian Empire. She was enrolled as a student at the Garreg Mach Monastery Officers Academy in Imperial Year 1179 as a member of the Black Eagles, but she vanished shortly before graduation, leaving many with the impression that she ran away. Edelgard - future emperor of the Empire - enrolled into the Academy the following year and became the leader of the Black Eagles.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses[]
While the class of new professor Byleth are searching for Flayn, they find an unconscious Monica alongside Flayn in an underground chamber. The class fights the mysterious Death Knight that held them captive, only for him to be forced to leave the captives and retreat by the Flame Emperor (in reality, Edelgard in disguise). However, it's revealed later that Monica was already dead, having been killed by her abductors - Those Who Slither In The Dark - and the person the class rescued was the Agarthan Kronya in disguise.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes[]
After seeing mercenary-turned-student Shez in action, Edelgard - knowing where Monica is due to having to work with Those Who Slither In the Dark - decides to alter her plan in an effort to rescue her. Edelgard is adamant about the change, even when her retainer Hubert advises how easily it can go wrong for their effort. She asks Jeritza, whose currently teaching Shez's class, to lead them on a rescue mission under the cover of finishing off the Iron King's Thieves that attacked her and the other House Leaders. During the expedition, Shez's class (including Edelgard if they chose the Black Eagles) find the fortress Monica is being kept and storm it, eventually finding her in the dungeons. If Shez is in the Black Eagles, Monica reacts with thankful surprise at seeing Edelgard, while the princess acts like she's surprised to see her there. The class proceed to escort Monica out of the fortress, even beating back the surprise appearance of Kronya and a Demonic Beast.
Following the rescue, if Shez chose the Black Eagles, Monica introduces herself to the class as both the eldest child of Baron Ochs and as one of Edelgard's most loyal subjects. She goes on to devote her life to Edelgard's cause, since the princess saved it life. At that declaration, Edelgard notes that Monica hasn't changed but is thankful for the enthusiasm. Monica reveals to the Knights of Seiros the identity of her kidnapper - Garreg Mach's librarian Tomas (in truth the Agarthan Solon) - before rejoining the Black Eagles at Edelgard's side. Later on, Monica is one of the Black Eagles students that join Edelgard in her coup against her uncle Lord Arundel and Duke Aegir to take full control of the Empire.
Two years after the monastery's closure following the coup, alongside threats in the Kingdom and Alliance that happened at the same time, Edelgard is ready to declare war on the Holy Church of Seiros. As part of this, Monica becomes a general of the imperial army. If Shez has joined the Black Eagles Monica will be able to have supports conversations with other playable characters. In her supports with Shez and Hubert she show to be jealous of Edelgard's trust on them. In her support with Edelgard Monica explain that it was an honor for her to be rescued by the woman to who she dedicated her life. and that the day Edelgard rescued her was the day she stopped to simply idolizing her and decided that Edelgard was the one for her. Edelgard reveals to Monica that she was prepared to let her die to keep her alliance with Those Who Slither In The Dark until she decided to change her plans after meeting Shez. Monica answers that Edelgard finally chose to save her and that she is thankful for that. Monica explain that her destiny is to walk beside Edelgard and that it make her happier than Edelgard could ever know. In their second support Edelgard is worried for Monica because she is focused on serving her and say that if Monica need something she can ask. Monica ask to embrace Edelgard which the latter agree. Monica promise to be even more loyal to Edelgard, the latter answers that Monica already gave her more loyalty than she could ever rightfully expect. Monica says remarked that Edelgard was uspet about herself because she was planning to let Monica die but Monica explains that even if she was killed by Those Who Slither In The Dark she would have died happy because it would have helped Edelgard to archieve her vision.
Fanon[]
Before the release of Three Hopes, Monigard was a nearly inexistent ship within the Fire Emblem fandom. Since the real Monica is never see alive in Three Houses and almost nothing was know about her personality or relationship with others, she was rarely (if ever) given an important role in fanworks. However, following the release of Three Hopes demo, where the real Monica was revealed to be alive and is a playable character, she had gained popularity in the fandom and was very quickly shipped with Edelgard, who she has explicit crush on. Monigard is the most popular ship for Monica, the main rivals being Monishez, Hubica, and Monithea, all of which are far less popular. However, on Edelgard's side, it's one of her least popular ships primarily since most fans preferer to ship her with other characters that were present in Three Houses (especially those with who she has a paired ending).
