Moonshell is the het ship between Astro and Shelly from the Dandy's World fandom.
Canon[]
Astro and Shelly are playable characters in Dandy's World. Their only two interactions are shown in their elevator voice-lines, when there are multiple players playing as them. They are both main characters who are used for support or helping other toons. Astro is able to regenerate all of a toon's stamina within a radius, and Shelly is able to boost a toon's extraction speed by 75% for 15 seconds. They both have 3 star extraction speed, however, Shelly is more on the extractor side due to her 5 star skill check while Astro has 2 star skill check. This is because Astro is usually helping with movement and Shelly is usually helping with extraction. Shelly was added on July 12th, 2024, while Astro was added around a month earlier, on June 14th, 2024. Shelly is an Ammonite Shell, while Astro is a moon. They both have the will to make others happy, shown by Astro trying hard to give everyone good dreams and Shelly motivating toons.
In their first interaction, Astro asks Shelly if she's doing alright. Shelly is stunned for a moment, asking Astro if he's talking to her. Astro confirms with hesitance. Shelly verifies that she's doing better in the company of Astro, and Astro gladly says he supposes that's good to hear from her. Shelly also seems happier and surprised that Astro had spoken to her, since she is usually ignored or forgotten. Another reason of she seems surprised/happy could also be the fact Astro asked how she was feeling, rather than just engaging a casual conversation with her. It's possible he could also be checking on her due to any dreams of hers.
In their second interaction, Shelly asks Astro if she could get a good dream at night, referring to him as "buddy." Astro asks Shelly what kind of dream she was talking about, and Shelly tells him to let her tame a hundred velociraptors. Astro, confused, asks Shelly if she's sure that's the kind of dream she wants. Shelly replies by saying that she's never been more sure. It is unsure Astro followed through with this request, but based on the other Astro interactions, it can be implied he did.
They don't have any other interactions or mentions of them being together, but it can be inferred from their 2 interactions that they're friends for a few reasons: Shelly says she feels better when she's with Astro, Astro checks on her, and she calls him "buddy," which is usually a word referred by friends, or being friendly.

Moonshell is a fairly popular ship in the fandom, mostly due to their interactions and how Astro is one of numerous toons who pays attention and notices Shelly. Fans think that Astro could help Shelly with her problems about being ignored, making her feel better using his magic and ability to manipulate dreams. Some fan works have Astro showing Shelly views of a beautiful night sky. Adding on to that, it's possible that Astro checks on Shelly frequently to make sure she's okay. They are also shipped because Astro is more on the listening side, and will listen to Shelly talk about her interests, such as dinosaurs, and her problems.
They are shown to be next to each other several times in the gift shop map, like their plushies, cardboard cutouts, etc. Despite that, this is most likely just a coincidence. Some fans like to imagine they like being next together, or that they were marketed together because of this.
In many fan works, Shelly is depicted as the sun to Astro's moon, due to her outgoing and cheerful nature, contrasting Astro's calm and reserved personality. Astro is sometimes shown as her light, because he is one of the various Toons that glow in blackouts. People think that they could be a cute and meaningful pairing because of this. Though not as often, they are also depicted as the sea and the moon, due to Astro's personality and appearance being that of a 'moon character', and Shelly being an ammonite, an extinct group of marine life.
Although the ship is so popular, Moonshell's main rival ships are the most popular ships for both characters, being Moonflower and Shellvision. It also rivals FossilCleaning, another popular Shelly ship. It’s sometimes shipped alongside other Het ships including the other mains like StrawberryCookie, Berryvision, Mistletoe or CobbleStone. It, too, is shipped alongside slash and femslash ships, such as Fruitcake and Brightvision. At times, they are paired with Vee, resulting in Moonshellvision.
On AO3, the ship has currently 140+ works, and 80+ works under the platonic tag. It is the second most popular ship written for Astro's ships, and the third most popular ship written for Shelly's.

- The ship name Moonshell comes from Shelly being an ammonite shell, and Astro being a moon.
- The ship name could also be referring to a shell of a Naticidae, commonly known as a moon snail, which is called a moon shell.
- They are both playable Main Characters, meaning they have 5 stars in a specific stat.
