MortiFanny is the het ship between Mortimer Mouse and Fanny Cottontail from the Mickey Mouse and Friends fandom.

Canon[]

Fanny was introduced in the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts in the 1920s prior to the foundation of Walt Disney Studios. Like Oswald, she was the property of Universal for many decades before being regained by Disney in the 21st century. Mortimer was introduced in 1936 in the Disney short “Mickey’s Rival”, but disappeared from animation for over 60 years before making his return. To date, the pair have never appeared in the same project. Fanny’s only true appearance in Disney media since her return has been as a crew member in Disney Speedstorm.

However, given that both characters are Disney’s to use and loosely within the same character family of Mickey Mouse and Friends, it is entirely possible that they could appear together. The idea of them entering into a romantic relationship also isn’t out of the question. Fanny was originally created as a love interest for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but has since been replaced in that role by Ortensia Whiskers. Mortimer, meanwhile, was established in his first appearance as an ex-boyfriend of Minnie Mouse, who is now paired with Mickey Mouse. As such, both Fanny and Mortimer are without canon romantic partners.

Given his previous relationship with Minnie and his flirtations with the likes of Daisy Duck in House of Mouse, Mortimer would undoubtedly not object to the rather stark height difference between himself and Fanny. Fanny, as seen in the classic short “Oh Teacher”, is also apparently not averse to the idea of having a taller partner. What is less clear is whether their personalities would be compatible. Fanny has been depicted in a variety of personalities, from damsel in distress to femme fatale. Mortimer also varies in his depictions but is commonly featured as an “anti-Mickey”: annoying, rude, and womanizing.

It could be, of course, that Fanny’s personality might be just the combination that would attract Mortimer to her. Mortimer does have his more positive moments and characterizations, and perhaps Fanny is the one able to bring them out. It’s also worth noting that the Mickey Mouse and Friends characters are often depicted as actors playing particular roles. Therefore, it could be that any objectionable qualities the pair have are affected, and thus not detriments to a potential relationship.

Fanon[]

MortiFanny is a fairly obscure ship, owing largely to the obscurity of Fanny herself. Mortimer enjoys somewhat more notoriety, but his general unpleasantness and rivalry with Mickey over Minnie’s affections often prevent his being shipped with other characters.

There are currently no works tagged for this ship on AO3.
