Kachina brings Lumine and Paimon to the Stadium of the Sacred Flame to meet Mualani and Kinich. Mualani adresses Lumine as a new friend of Kachina's, seeming pleased she made one. After Lumine introduces herself, Mualani, Kinich and Kachina begin discussing the Pilgrimage, a national competition in Natlan. Lumine and Paimon express curiousity about it, so Mualani explains it to them in depth. Everyone then decides to go register for it, but Mualani first makes sure Kachina is not planning on competing alone. Paimon says she wishes she and Lumine could join her, but they cannot due to not being natively from Natlan. Mualani comes up with the ideas to either ask if the two could have special permission to participate, or to leave her team to join Kachina's. Thinking the second option is better, Mualani then heads off to tell her team about her leave.
After Mualani returns, everyone heads off to register. Mualani asks Cival if Lumine and Paimon could participate, only for her request to be turned down. To convince her, Mualani praises Lumine, calling her a renowned adventurer and more than skilled enough to participate. Cival still disagrees, so Mualani compromises Lumine could still watch from the stands, and says she'll help her get good seats. As they are about to head to the Weary Inn, Mualani tells Lumine the cost of all the food they order there will be covered by their Archon, Mavuika. While dining, Mualani conversates with Lumine a bit, and the two also cheer up Kachina together.
At nighttime, the player is given the choice to either simply wait until morning, or look for Kachina and Mualani. The next day, everyone gathers at the Stadium of the Sacred Flame. With the Pilgrimage about to start, Lumine and Paimon realize they forget to buy something to eat. Mualani, however, prepared something for them ahead of time, and hands it to Lumine. The Pilgrimage is then announced to have begun, and Mualani tells Lumine to cheer her and Kachina on before leaving. They cross paths again when the former comes to tell Kachina they will be dueling in the final round.
After their duel, Mualani spots Lumine and Paimon outside the stadium. She first thanks them for supporting Kachina, and then offers to go to her tribe, the People of the Springs together.

MuaLumi is not a very popular ship for both Mualani and Lumine, being rivaled and heavily overshadowed by other much more popular ships for the two. Fans who do ship them enjoy their dynamic, with Mualani being optimistic and outgoing, compared to Lumine being more calm and serious. The ship gained some attention after the Natlan Archon Quest was released, since some fans found Mualani showing Lumine around her tribe and getting her to loosen up cute. Currently, there are 7 works of MuaLumi on AO3.

Trivia[]
- When everyone goes to register for the Pilgrimage in the Natlan Archon Quest, Kachina and Kinich are standing beside each other, while Mualani stands beside Lumine.
- Mualani is the first of the few girl characters that is actually seen with Lumine in the hot springs (the other is in a bath house with Ei, Yae, and Mizuki), despite Yoimiya having similar intentions with her in the Serenitea Pot.
