Archon Quest: Chapter V[]
Act I[]
Mualani meets Aether for the first time, appearing just after Kinich sent Ajaw to timeout. Mualani decides to offer some help after seeing Kachina's current situation, being Kachina's new teammate. Mualani invites Aether and everyone to the feast in a location near the Pilgrimage in Natlan, where food is well served. Then, Mualani and Kachina register themselves in a competition.
Aether and Paimon cheer for Kachina and Mualani to support them in their competition. Mualani's team win the competition and qualify for the individual competition. For Aether's surprise, both Mualani and Kachina made for the finals to confront themselves and he doesn't know who to support the most until Paimon decided to support Kachina rather than Mualani.
After the competition ended with Kachina as one of the winners, Mualani reappears. As Kachina will be busy fighting the Abyss, Mualani offers herself to be Aether's guide. She invites him to her tribe, the People of the Springs.
Back at the tribe, Mualani thinks of many things she can offer Aether to help him get to know her tribe better. Mualani suggests to Aether that they first try bathing in the hot springs, but this conversation is overheard by Atea, a neighbor of Mualani's. She appears and after a conversation, reminds Mualani that she forgot an unwritten rule. Beginners and outsiders who want to try natural hot springs must first pass the test of artificial hot springs to see if they can withstand high heat and thus prevent cases of people dying from being scalded.

After changing into a swimsuit, Aether and Mualani enter the hot springs, not to mention that Paimon didn't want to be left out of this opportunity either.
Tribal Chronicles: Mualani's Story Quest[]
Mualani was in her shop, selling pink and blue floats. Aether appears and invites Mualani to be his guide, since they heard many rumors about the mysterious island that supposedly contains a very valuable treasure.
On the way they meet Koolau, a very conceited man who claims to have been to the mysterious island before. Some tourists appear who turn out to be a couple of students from the Akademiya of Sumeru (Viramdra and Karya), whom Aether previously saved from Koholosaur attacks. Paimon sees the situation as unpleasant because even with the insistent requests of that tourist for Koolau to guide him to the mysterious island, he makes excuses for not guiding him and leaves. Paimon thought of a possibility that Mualani returns the invitation and thus cancels the trip, but Mualani refuses. So just when they decided to go together to the mysterious island, this conversation is heard by Viramdra and Karya, those tourists from before. Viramdra asks Mualani to join the expedition to the mysterious island, but before leaving, Mualani has to borrow something from his uncle Nuu.
So Aether and Mualani head to Uncle Nuu's shop. Upon hearing the expedition's intentions, Nuu lends Mualani a talisman and wishes them both good luck.
First, Mualani, accompanied by Aether, Paimon, Viramdra, and Karya, head to look for clues in a place where Koholosaurs live. After realizing that it is useless to hide from the Koholosaurs in these conditions, Mualani comes up with the idea of looking for a plant whose extract has a Koholosaur smell. So they all rub themselves with the extract, which allows them to go unnoticed among the Koholosaurs without any further problems.
After finding a clue in that place, Mualani leads the group to a place with mysterious mechanisms that presumably lead to the Mysterious Island. Neither Viramdra nor Karya seem to be good at handling the mechanisms, so Mualani chooses Aether to operate the mechanism while Mualani "surfs" them with Sharky, her pet shark.
When all the mechanisms have been activated, whirlpools of water finally appear. Mualani says that the largest whirlpool will lead to the mysterious island, but everyone is a little scared. Suddenly, Viramdra can't take it anymore and runs to swim, but soon calls for help, desperate because he is about to drown. Mualani goes to his rescue, but when the rescue is over, the whirlpools have already closed, leaving everyone disappointed because the mechanisms' energy recharge time is long.
Fortunately, the next day, when Aether woke up, Mualani had already activated the mechanisms again with Viramdra and Karya. So everyone enters the large whirlpool to see that it leads them to a volcanic place with pits and rivers of lava. They spent their time exploring the place until Viramdra sees a light, which he believes is a sign that the mysterious island must be nearby. Suddenly, Mualani tried to stop Viramdra but it was useless. To top it off, an earthquake began to happen and the lava levels began to rise. Mualani went to rescue Viramdra for the second time and took him by force when he did not want to leave because he saw a precious gem which he believes is already on this mysterious island. When she brought him with everyone, Karya had no choice but to slap and reason with Viramdra because he was disappointed that he could not take the treasure from this mysterious island. When noticing that the lava is rising more and more, Mualani calls with her whistle to 3 of her Koholosaurs so that they can help cross the lava to get out of the volcanic area once and for all.
Once outside, Aether and his companions finally understood that the true treasure is teamwork with the companions. Aether and Mualani bid farewell to Viramdra and Karya and head off to return the talisman to Uncle Nuu. He thanks them for understanding the true meaning of the treasure and reveals that Koolau has never had such an experience.
To end the trip, Mualani comes up with the idea of taking a photo with Aether using a Kamera. After the end of this trip, Aether continues his journey through the Natlan region of Teyvat.

This ship is Aether's first het ship in Natlan, as Mualani is the first girl he met in Natlan and is even a guide who accompanies him for most of the first 2 acts of the Archon Quests in Natlan as well as in her own Story Quest. Despite Mualani being the girl that Aether interacts the most in Natlan, it is actually a rare pair alongside Aether's sister's counterpart, MuaLumi. In fact, this ship is rivaled by Kinilani and KaLani on Mualani's side. Another notable reason of its unpopularity is that Mualani doesn't fit the well known "Swordgirls", as seen in Aether's Swordgirl Harem, because she uses a Catalyst weapon instead of a sword like the girls that are popularly shipped with Aether, like Keqing, Ayaka and Nilou. (In other words, Mualaether is rivaled by Aeqing, Ayather and Nilother on Aether's side). Even in Natlan, Kinither, the ship between Aether and Kinich, overwhelms Mualaether by far.

Trivia[]
- Mualani is the only girl that is actually seen with Aether in the hot springs, despite Yoimiya having similar intentions with him in the Serenitea Pot.
- In the cutscene where Aether is at the hot springs with Mualani, some fans pointed out that his hair resembles Yanqing's (With Yanqing being a character from Honkai: Star Rail, another Hoyoverse game).
