Muffcine is the femslash ship between Francine Frensky and Muffy Crosswire from the Arthur fandom.
Canon[]
Francine and Muffy are best friends, although they often times act more like frenemies. They first meet when Muffy moves to Elwood City in the second grade. The two become fast friends, but Muffy puts that friendship into jeopardy by cheating off of Francine on a math test. When confronted by their teacher, Muffy lies and says that Francine is the cheater. Francine winds up in detention, and leaves their softball team without her in their upcoming game against Mighty Mountain. Muffy finally has a change of heart and confesses to her lie, allowing Francine to join the softball game at the last second. While they still lose, Francine accepts Muffy's apology and the two become best friends again.
In "Meek for a Week", Muffy challenges Francine to be nice for an entire week. Francine insists that she already is nice, but Muffy calls her "a walking, talking poke in the eye". In "Poor Muffy", Muffy stays for a week at the Frensky home while her carpets are getting replaced. This brings their friendship to a head, when Muffy continually remarks on how poor Francine and her family are. In "The Lousy Week", Francine gets head lice after borrowing Muffy's hat. Francine is angry, because Muffy lied to her about not having headlice. The girls continue to argue about whose fault the lice outbreak at the school is, before finally deciding to put an end to the lice all together by getting matching buzzcuts.
In "The Election", Francine works as the campaign manager on Muffy's attempt to become class president. This forces her away from her other friends, as Arthur is also running in the election and is considered "the enemy". In "Muffy Gets Mature", Muffy is upset with how "childish" Francine is. She chides her for things like wearing footie pajamas and bringing lunchboxes to school. Francine is offended, and tells Muffy to find some more mature friends. Muffy takes this to heart, and tries to befriend Francine's older sister, Catherine. While Catherine likes hanging out with Muffy one in a while, she tries to dissuade Muffy from growing up too fast. She confesses that Francine has been moping around the house all week without Muffy around, and convinces Muffy to mend their friendship.
In "The Good Sport", Francine is hurt when Jenna Morgan is given the title of "Athlete of the Year" over her. Muffy, who had been certain the award would go to Francine, is offended on her best friend's behalf. She begins to circulate a petition, trying to convince Mr. Haney to take the award from Jenna and give it to Francine instead. When no one else agrees to sign the petition, Muffy and Francine decide to go all in on celebrating Jenna, although their motives are not pure. When Jenna is upset by all the attention, Muffy confronts her and reminds her that they all think the award should have gone to Francine instead.
In "Do You Speak George?", Francine and Muffy share a secret language together, which they refuse to teach to any of the boys.
In "All Grown Up", Muffy and Francine are shown to still be close friends. Francine is supportive of Muffy running for mayor of Elwood City.

Fanon[]
Muffcine is a very popular ship in the Arthur fandom. With the two being the leading female characters in the series, as well as canonically being best friends, they have many scenes together. There are also a number of episodes that revolve solely around their friendship. Despite being best friends, Muffy and Francine are almost complete opposites of each other. While Francine is the archetypal tomboy, Muffy is a fashion obsessed rich girl. It is these very differences that draw people to the ship, believing that their contrasting personalities will help to balance each other out.
Muffcine is the most popular femslash ship in the fandom on AO3. It currently has 10 works, and is the most popular ship for both Muffy and Francine. It is oftentimes paired in conjunction with Busthur.
