As Mulan and Raya are from different series, they have never met in canon.

Both of them are warriors and are quite resourceful with the weapons they use. In fact, Raya’s sword is almost identical to the one the Emperor hands to Mulan after she saves China. Both characters are skilled in martial arts and have trained tirelessly to get almost perfect at them. Both Mulan and Raya are from Asian empires, Raya is from a fictional Southeast Asian country, named Kumandra, while Mulan is from Ancient China. Aside from being warriors, they both go on their own quests as heroines. While Disney is used to the trope of the princesses being saved by princes, Mulan was one of the first Disney princesses to go on a war, and lead at it. While Disney still gave her a male love interest in Lee Shang, it was her who saved China. In the same way, Raya was the one to find the last dragon, all by herself, and to save Kumandra, to restore her father.

Fathers are important for both of these characters’ stories. While Mulan goes to war to protect her old and sick father, Raya’s whole quest and search for the last dragon is done in order to get her father back. And the flowers that tie them to both their fathers are also a similarity between these two. It’s under a tree flower that Mulan has a heart-to-heart conversation with her dad, and the last thing she leaves behind for her father before she leaves to war it’s the flower hairpiece she was wearing earlier. Just like Mulan, Raya is surrounded by flowers where she has a meaningful talk with her dad and they continue to accompany her in various locations throughout the film.

Finally, both befriend a talking dragon during their journey. But while Mushu is a spirit guardian of Mulan's family, part of Raya's journey was finding the last dragon Sisu and summoning her to help her against the Druun.

Fanon[]

Mulaya is considered to be a rare pair within both characters' respective fandoms. They get overshadowed by each characters's most popular ships, Rayaari and Mulang. However, the ship has quite a few followers and fan works made for it. People started pairing Mulan with Raya in fanart as soon as they heard that Disney was going to make another animated movie starring an Asian woman as the lead. However, there are currently no fanfics for the ship.
