- — Muu in “After Pain”
Muurei is the femslash ship between Muu Kusunoki and Rei Kuraki from the MILGRAM fandom.
Canon[]
Prior to Muu's arrival at MILGRAM, Muu and Rei were classmates. Rei is the reason that Muu is currently in MILGRAM as she is the person that Muu killed. Muu's music videos suggest that she felt great regret after killing Rei and likely did it in the heat of the moment.
After Pain[]
In Muu's first Trial music video "After Pain", Rei is the only person we can see the face of, while the others have a blank face, meaning that Rei was important to Muu, as she is the first victim we can see the face of in the series. We first see Rei observing Muu laying on the bathroom floor with toilet paper and water around her. Rei looks down at her with an unbothered expression, then walks past her. After Rei walks past her, the lyrics sing "I love YOU". Right after that scene, we see things in Muu's perspective and she is running towards Rei. Muu reaches out to Rei while the lyrics sing "I love YOU" again. Muu grabs Rei's arm, sobbing while trying to apologize or say something to Rei. Rei stares at Muu, once again, with an unbothered expression. Rei snatches her arm away from Muu's grip, and in the next scene Muu stabs Rei while screaming.
Muu seems to be traumatized from this as she is seen staring down at her box cutter (which she is shakily holding) with a shocked expression. The MVs imply that she did this out of the heat of the moment, and that the murder wasn't premeditated.
It's Not My Fault[]
In Muu's second Trial music video "It's Not My Fault", we see Rei looking at Muu with a disgusted expression, as it is revealed that Muu was actually a bully before her peers turned the tables on her. We then go back to the scene in After Pain's music video after Muu had just stabbed Rei. Muu is breathing heavily and looking down, still holding her box cutter, but then looks up with a deranged expression on her face. At the end of the music video, Rei is drenched in water, standing in the classroom; it's implied Muu had bullied her. Rei then flips the hourglass in the classroom, likely alluding to the events of "After Pain".
Pain[]
Muu's third Trial music video reveals more information about their relationship, along with their class hierarchy. Rei was a transfer student who refused to treat Muu specially unlike most of her classmates, which caused Muu discomfort, as she also believed that Rei was "rebelling" against her. Despite Muu not giving any direct orders or telling them to do it, things quickly escalated to Muu's lackies bullying Rei relentlessly, after they sensed her unease towards Rei. Muu appears to not have discouraged the bullying.
Eventually, Muu finds Rei on the floor after being bullied and looks at her curiously while blushing, an interaction that ends with Rei turning the tables on her and fighting back by slamming a chair into Muu's face in front of their classmates (also represented as the hourglass being turned over). Seeing how easily she crumbled from the event, Muu's classmates and lackies turned against her and start subjecting her to the same bullying that Rei experienced. After Rei found Muu on the bathroom floor and offered nothing but a blank stare before quickly turning away, Muu couldn't take it anymore, which culminated in the murder of Rei as seen in both "After Pain" and "It's Not My Fault".
Interrogations[]
In Muu's first Trial interrogation, Question 9 asks, "Do you have apologetic feelings for who you killed [Rei]?", to which she replies with "The person who did the wrong thing first should apologize".
In the second trial interrogation, Question 6 asks, "Do you remember the name of the person you killed?" and Muu replies with "Of course I do? It's Rei, right?". Muu is also asked if she regretted killing Rei in Question 18 to which she replies by saying, "Mmh, I should have chosen my friends better."
In the third Trial Interrogation, Question 5 asks, "Give the full name of the person you killed" and Muu replies with "I think it was Kuraki Rei, but I'm not sure if the kanji is correct." Muu is also asked for her first impression of Rei in Question 12 which she replies by saying "She's the kind of person you can't really tell what she's thinking. She's always by herself, like a lone wolf. I don't really understand her very well. (At least, that's how Muu feels.)", Question 13 asks, "Why did you kill Rei instead of the bullies?" and Muu replies with "Everything went wrong after Rei appeared. I thought that if she were gone, everything would go back to how it was.", Question 14 asks, "Did you like Rei?" and Muu replies with "Why? Muu likes people who are kind to Muu." Question 15 asks, "What was it about Rei that you didn't like?" and Muu replies with "The way she looked at Muu like Muu was air. No one's ever done that. Unforgivable."
Fanon[]
Muurei is a decently popular ship in the MILGRAM fandom. A popular theory within the fandom is that Muu had feelings for Rei as most times when Rei was shown in "After Pain" the lyrics would sing "I love YOU". Most fans agree that "YOU" is referring to Rei.
Some don't like the ship as it is murderer x victim, and the fact the MVs imply that Muu and Rei bullied one another back and forth. Although most shippers don't think Muu and Rei should actually be together and only enjoy the idea of their "mutually unrequited" romantic feelings.
On Ao3, Muurei is the third most written ship for Muu and the most written for Rei. Its biggest rival is Harumuu, it's also rivaled by Esmuu and Yunomuu to a lesser degree.
