Mystery Kids is the friendship between Dipper and Mabel Pines, Coraline Jones, Norman Babcock, Raz Aquato and Lili Zanotto from the Gravity Falls, Coraline, ParaNorman and Psychonauts fandoms.

Due to Gravity Falls being owned by Disney, Coraline and ParaNorman being owned by Laika and Pyschonauts being an independent project helmed by Double Fine Productions, a crossover between all of these properties is rendered incredibly unlikely.
Many of these stories do have strange encounters with the supernatural in common: Dipper and Mabel encounter and fight strange creatures during their summer vacation almost on a daily basis, Coraline found a pocket dimension controlled by some kind of button-eyed fae and almost got trapped inside, Norman was left the only capable of fighting a century-old curse with his natural power to speak to the dead and Raz and Lili are professional "Psychonauts" (psychics who are tasked with entering a person's mind in order to help them).
Their works also share similar tones and aesthetics.

Mystery Kids had its start during the height of tumblr and DeviantArt, with it becoming trendy to mix completely different fandoms based on similarities in medium. It became popular due to a 45-minute long animatic being released in 2013, which was unheard of at the time. Some believe that the crossover was inspired by Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons.
Episode 1[]
Said animatic had a group of eight, two "members" for each fandom.
The animatic features the eight kids forming their group to take down Dr. Loboto, a major villain from Psychonauts. In the animatic, Coraline and Raz agree to be the group's leaders, but most fanworks put Dipper in that role instead.
Further Episodes[]
Plans for a direct sequel were announced, but were then dropped. Instead, the crew who made the first episode decided to work on Mystery Kids and the Magic Mirror, with villains from the other fandoms having received casting announcements.
Further mutation[]
Some pieces of recursive fanwork exclude Wybie and Neil, or keep Wybie but replace Neil with Agatha from the same movie to restore the gender balance. Others only feature Dipper, Mabel, Coraline and Norman, due to Psychonauts being fairly obscure in comparison. Some fanworks feature both Neil and Agatha as members, some include a third character for the other fandoms to balance it out.
"Unofficial" members include Zim and/or Dib (and sometimes Gaz) from Invader Zim, Danny from Danny Phantom, Billy and Mandy from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Courage the Cowardly Dog as the group's pet. Some post-2013 crossovers also feature Steven Universe and Wirt (with or without Greg) from Over the Garden Wall.
Most of the shipping within the Mystery Kids crossover supports the only official couple of Raz/Lili. Parapines and Corapines are popular side-ships. If Wybie is included, Corbie is substituted and Mabel is paired off with whoever is left.
