Canon[]
- MANGA

Nanami and Gojo waiting for Yuji.
Kento Nanami and Satoru Gojo are professional sorcerers. Ten years prior to the events of the main story, they went to Jujutsu High together with Nanami being Gojo’s junior as he’s one year younger. It is known that after the graduation, Nanami decides to quit the career of a sorcerer instead dedicating himself to a more mundane and ordinary life working as a salesman. After several years of being a white-collar worker, Nanami changes his mind and contacts Gojo to arrange his return into the jujutsu world.
Vs. Mahito Arc[]
When Gojo has urgent business and cannot be there to teach Yuji Itadori, he asks Nanami to assist the first-year student on a mission. Gojo introduces the man as a “reliable protégé”, saying that he trusts him. Gojo notices how there’re a lot of untrustworthy sorcerers out there, but considering Nanami’s salesman past, he is supposed to be reliable. Nanami says that he trusts Gojo, but doesn’t respect him.
Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc[]

After the mission is over, the two meet again before the beginning of the Exchange Event as they wait in the lounging zone. Gojo asks Nanami to tell him something funny as he is bored. Nanami ignores him, and Gojo proposes to talk about the separation of the state and the church while throwing rice balls at each other. Nanami keeps silent, and Gojo tries again, this time he offers a game – Yamanote Line, with the places Satoru loves. In the anime he proposes a different game — to name all the things participants, in this case Nanami, love about Satoru. Nanami comments this time, saying it’s good that after everything that went down Gojo is so blithely cheerful: he thinks Gojo’s student Yuji needs this silly attitude after his unsuccessful mission. They talk about Yuji, and Gojo admits he is glad that he let Nanami handle that difficult mission, because his decision not to tell Yuji about the presence of a cursed finger in Junpei’s apartment saved the first-year some misery, as the boy would feel misplaced responsibility. Gojo seems to appreciate Nanami's thoughfulness as they both greatly care for Yuji's well-being.
Shibuya Incident Arc[]

Nanami upon learning about Gojo being sealed.
During the events in Shibuya, Nanami and Gojo are active participants, but they operate separately. Gojo takes care of mutated people and fights Jogo and Hanami, while Nanami takes the responsibility of protecting people inside the screen. Yuji informs Nanami about Gojo’s sealing, and Nanami immediately changes the plan. He believes that Gojo being sealed means death for everyone in the country. He makes a new plan – to lift the curtain and attack the enemy from different stations. Nanami informs the students that he will help set Gojo free from the Prison Realm. In the fight against cursed spirits he encounters on his way, Nanami gets seriously wounded and then killed by Mahito. Gojo is still absent and isn’t aware of his death.
Shinjuku Showdown Arc[]
After Gojo dies, Nanami is there with him in the afterlife. He tells Gojo that he does not agree with his death but he can sympathize with Gojo. Gojo then asks Nanami about his death in Shibuya.
- LIGHT NOVEL
Soaring Summer and Returning Autumn: Resurrection Puppet[]
In the first light novel, Nanami goes on a business trip to Hokkaido, and Gojo imposes himself on him. As they walk along a busy road, Gojo tries to chat with Nanami, asking him to play trivia games with him. Nanami calls Gojo out on not understanding the definition of the word “trivia”, and they bicker. Gojo brought a tourist booklet with the best dessert places circled in red, and Nanami notes how irritating Gojo’s enthusiasm can be. As they keep walking with Gojo constantly talking, Nanami thinks to himself that Gojo doesn’t make sense 90% of the time, and his constant presence as a colleague can bring one to the brink of madness. Nanami asks Gojo why he even bothered to come along, since the mission was simple and didn’t require Gojo’s aid. Gojo says it’s a precaution, and he isn’t worried about the mission, since Nanami is strong enough to deal even with the curse on his own. Nanami keeps pressing, and Gojo admits that he knows him too well, and tells him not to worry about it for the time being.

They keep bickering, when they stumble across a food stall that sells potatoes with butter. When Gojo asks Nanami about the Japanese term for potato, Nanami replies swiftly, and Gojo is left astonished by Nanami’s erudition. Gojo stops by and orders some, Nanami reluctantly notes that he could use a glass of beer with it. Gojo thinks potato is good as it since beer would mar the flavor. Nanami orders potato with shiokara (fermented seafood), and when Gojo notices it, Nanami says he won’t give him any to try. Gojo says he doesn’t want it anyway. After finishing their meal, they grab some dessert, they eat it on the go as they head through Oodori Park (Gojo has cheesecake flavored ice-cream, and Nanami – cookie-cream flavored). Nanami correctly guesses Gojo pestered Ijichi into giving out Nanami’s whereabouts, and Gojo cheerfully changes the topic. They investigate the case, and retrieve the cursed puppet. Since Gojo isn’t doing anything, Nanami makes him carry his heavy bag. The sorcerers find the perpetrator’s stronghold, and kick out the door to get inside. Gojo silently watches as Nanami successfully deals with the curse. Afterwards he praises Nanami and pats him on the back.
When the mission is over, they go to an izakaya to rest. Gojo orders a “Florida” cocktail (citrus juice and syrup), while Nanami drinks “Gimlet” (gin and lime juice). They talk about their profession, about how difficult it is to walk through life as a sorcerer without accumulating curses that weight you down, and how much more difficult it is for their students, young people, who don’t know the harsh ways of life. Gojo orders two “Cinderella” cocktails for himself and Nanami, and asks him to look after Yuji Itadori, his new student. Nanami notes that the cocktail Gojo ordered tastes very sweet, “just like a fairy tale full of romance”, and it "promises you a happy ending”. Gojo admits that he knows Nanami understands human pain and suffering, especially those of the young people, and he wants him to take care of Yuji’s mental health. They down their too-sweet-drinks and continue talking.
Quotes[]
- Gojo – “Now that I think about it, baked potato with butter sounds pretty intense. They bake the potato and put butter on top and then sell it. Making that at home isn’t too hard!”
- Nanami – “They’re similar to stone-baked sweet potatoes.”
- Gojo – “It is similar, now that you mention it. As expected from Nanami, you have a good eye under those glasses of yours!”
- — Resurrection Puppet
- Nanami – “We are Jujutsu sorcerers, proper ones.”
- Gojo – “Not some inferior bastards like you.”

- — The last sentence in Resurrection Puppet[1]
Fanon[]
The ship is considered rather popular among the anime fans. It is Nanami's most written ship and Gojo's fifth most written ship on AO3.
The ship gained popularity after episode 9's omake Juju Sanpo, that centers around Gojo and Nanami. Gojo asks Nanami out, but the latter refuses to indulge him. Gojo keeps insisting, showing up at the most unexpected places, and one time even holding a card with Nanami's name and a small heart attached to it. Eventually Gojo slips a small note in Nanami's pocket, and as he unfolds the paper, he finds a lewd doodle inside — apparently Gojo was trying to prank him.
Many fans seem to enjoy Gojo and Nanami's push-pull dynamic: Gojo, as an unstoppable force, is always the initiator of the contact, and Nanami, as an immovable object, is the one who puts a stop to his advances. Sometimes the ship is seen as a rivals to lovers trope — that is considering Nanami's detest of Gojo's antics, whose personality he seems to find irritating, and Gojo's never-ending enthusiasm he never fails to express in Kento's presence. The difference between calm and collected Nanami and always over-eager and intense Gojo is the main factor in ship's popularity.
In fanfiction NanaGo can be featured alongside with ShokoHime, sometimes works mention HaiNana and SatoSugu as previous relationships the characters have had before they entered a relationship with each other. Fans often see Nanami and Gojo as "parents" to the main characters, especially Yuji and Megumi Fushiguro, as fans like them to play the role of guardians in their lives.

Trivia[]
- In Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook alcohol is listed as Nanami's interest; in contrast with this, Gojo doesn't drink alcoholic beverages at all.[2]
- As mentioned in the light novel, Nanami is not a fan of sweets, and Gojo has a sweet tooth. That, however, doesn't stop Nanami from drinking a sugary cocktail Gojo ordered for him.[3]
- An extra page for volume 12 of Jujutsu Kaisen shows Gojo, Shoko, and Nanami in a zoom call. Gojo is seen making a cute face trying to charm his friends. Nanami leaves the conversation.[4]
- Both Gojo and Nanami have to cover their eyes but for different reasons: Satoru has to avoid sensory overload due to his Six Eyes Technique, while Nanami doesn't want curses to become agressive when they feel they're being watched.
- Sometimes Gojo uses the affectionate nickname "Nanamin" that Yuji gave him (to Nanami's chagrin).[5]
- As shown in one of the volume extras, Nanami believes Gojo doesn't understand the concept of personal space and even compares him to his former employer who had a similar habit of leaning too much into him. The comparison upsets Gojo.[6]
- Gojo and Nanami are among the few sorcerers who have experienced Black Flash. It is incredibly rare, as "the sparks of black do not choose who to bless".[7] Sorcerers who managed to unleash Black Flash have an immeasurably higher understanding of the essence of cursed energy.
- In the extra pages at the end of Volume 10, main Jujutsu Kaisen characters are asked what Gojo is to them. Besides conluding that he's the strongest, Nanami calls him “flippant” and “egoistical”.[8]

- In August of 2021, Jujutsu Kaisen collaborated with Marui and released two official arts. The first one shows Gojo taking his students shopping, the second art, according to the title, shows Gojo and Nanami taking the students to the beach right after.[11]
- According to Gojo's student Hakari Kinji, when a sorcerer asks another sorcerer for help, it's like asking them to risk their life for them.[12] In the light novel, Gojo asks Nanami for help with his new student Yuji, who happens to be a vessel for a dangerous cursed spirit.
- When Gojo's character design for Volume 0 adaptation was revealed, Kenjiro Tsuda (Nanami's Japanese VA) quote tweeted the news, saying that, "[Gojo's] newest visual is cool, but I do not respect him."[13]
- Natsuki Kizu, creator and author of popular BL manga Given, made fan art of Gojo and Nanami together and posted it on their twitter account.
- To commemorate the release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie, on December 25th JUMP COMICS released a video about “what’s going on in the prison realm now”. The video contains a visual of Gojo surrounded by skeletons, he is listening to music and thinking about his fisr year students, favorite sweets, and Nanami.[14]
- In Gojo's Official Booklet, Nanami's relationship with Gojo is stated as "co-worker".
