Teddiko is the friendship between Teddie and Nanako Dojima from the Persona fandom.
Canon[]
Nanako and Teddie are close friends. Teddie refers to her as "Nana-chan" in both the original Japanese and the English dub.
After defeating Mitsuo Kubo's Shadow, the Investigation Team wants to celebrate. They gather at the Dojima household to have a cooking competition. Teddie sits with Nanako while the rest of the group work on cooking their omelet rice. Teddie laments that he'll have to return to the TV world soon, as the investigation has concluded. Nanako is saddened by this, and suggests that they make a promise together. She tells Teddie that he should promise to stay and play with her. Yu Narukami overhears, and tells Teddie that he can't leave now that he's made a promise to Nanako.
At the Summer Festival, Nanako arrives dressed in a yukata. Teddie compliments her outfit, calling her cute. They continue to spend time together over the summer and into the fall, often accompanied by the rest of the Investigation Team. When Teddie wonders about what his future in the human world might be, Nanako suggests that he could be a king.
In November, Nanako is kidnapped by Taro Namatame and put into the Midnight Channel. The Investigation Team travel into the TV World to rescue Nanako. However, due to her innocence she does not have a Shadow figure. Teddie deduces that the lack of a Shadow has taken a great toil on her body, and Nanako is hospitalized upon their return to the real world. Nanako spends a month in the hospital, with the doctors unable to determine what is wrong with her. In December, Nanako's condition takes a turn for the worse and she passes away. The Investigation Team decides to confront Namatame. Meanwhile, Teddie visits Nanako's bedside. He feels responsible for her death as it occurred because of her visit to "his world". He feels guilt over the fact that he couldn't protect her, and returns to the TV World. Without Nanako around, he can't keep his promise to her and has lost his reason to exist in the real world.
If the Investigation Team chooses to spare Namatame and look further into the case, Nanako comes back to life. A few days later, Teddie appears to Yu in the Velvet Room. He apologizes for not being able to save Nanako, but Yu reveals that Nanako is alive again. This revelation allows Teddie to believe in himself again and he rejoins the human world. He arrives in Nanako's hospital room, and she wakes up from a nap at the sound of his voice. She is glad to see him, and reveals that she heard Teddie telling her to "hang in there" when she was dead. It was through his voice, and the voices of the other team members, that Nanako was able to come back to life.
For Christmas, Teddie creates a miniature version of his bear-self and gifts it to Nanako. He says it will keep her company at the hospital. Nanako is very happy about the gift.
Persona 4 Golden[]
In the added Fireworks Festival event, Teddie asks Nanako if she wants to launch some "fireworks of love". Nanako laughs and asks how they do that, before Chie Satonaka cuts in and tells Teddie to cut it out before Ryotaro Dojima arrests him for flirting with his daughter. When the fireworks start, the group begins to shout "Tamaya!" in appreciation. Teddie decides to shout "Ted Fi-ya!" instead, and Nanako copies him.
In winter, Nanako, Yu, and Dojima get together to make a snowman. Nanako requests that the snowman look like Teddie, and asks Yu to draw Teddie's face. Nanako returns to the hospital after New Years and is expected to stay for two weeks. Teddie is anxious for her return, and practices how to welcome her home. Nanako is excited to see him waiting for her at the Dojima residence, and invites Teddie to share dinner with them that night. A few days later, the Investigation Team gathers at Junes to celebrate Nanako's return. She thanks them for rescuing her from the TV world, and compares them to the heroes she sees in TV shows. This causes Teddie to cry, realizing that he is Nanako's hero.
Fanon[]
NanaTeddie is a commonly enjoyed friendship in the Persona 4 fandom. Fans enjoyed the fact that Nanako was one of the few female characters that Teddie wasn't shown to flirt with, and they liked that he was the closest thing that Nanako had to a friend her age in the Investigation Team. Fans were annoyed when some more "flirtatious" lines were added into Persona 4 Golden, but many chalked it up to Teddie being still new to the human world and not fully understanding what he was saying. Still, there are a number of fans who dislike this friendship simply because they dislike the character of Teddie as a whole.
The majority of fans ship only NanaTeddie as friends due to Nanako's young age, but there are some who prefer to see them in a romantic relationship. These shippers tend to age Nanako up when shipping her romantically with Teddie.
NanaTeddie currently only has 3 works on AO3. It has 11 works as a romantic pairing. It is most often rivalled by the family ship between Nanako and Yu Narukami.
