- Being the subject of other people's expectations is scary. But... when I met her, I thought... That I... wanted to become her strength.
- —Tamura Nana’s thoughts after meeting Luliam, Chapter 1
Nana x Luliam is the femslash ship between Tamura Nana and Luliam Santamagia from the The Helpless Saint and the Powerless Princess fandom.
Canon[]
The two first meet after Tamura Nana gets summoned to Luliam’s world as a holy saint from another world to solve the world’s crisis. There, Nana and another summoned saint are supposed to pair up with one of the kingdom’s two princesses, with whichever pair actually solving the crisis ascending to the throne and getting married. After Nana’s initial magical ability test comes up as nothing, Princess Luliam steps in to defend Nana from criticism and selects Nana as her saint partner. Luliam then encourages a dejected Nana to not give up quite yet and reveals to Nana that she herself cannot use magic at all, despite having huge amounts of magical energy within her.
The next day, Luliam has a sudden surge of magic through her body and collapses, and a panicked Nana unwittingly heals her by taking that energy from her and converting it into holy magic. Luliam declares Nana her savior and proposes to her again, but instead of answering, Nana grows nauseous, a side effect of using so much magic at once. Realizing that Nana can indeed use magic, the two try to replenish Nana’s magical energy in many different ways, only to conclude that Nana can only get her energy from Luliam. Luliam feels relieved at this, but Nana feels disappointed, thinking herself useless without the princess near her.
Some time later, Luliam teaches Nana how to make potions, and Nana unintentionally makes a holy potion which instantly heals the court magician’s fatigue. With Luliam mixing together the actual potions and Nana adding her holy magic to them, they make more for all the other exhausted potion brewers. The magicians praise and glorify Nana as their saint, and Nana, having noticed that they and the majority of the kingdom are wary of and fear Luliam, instead asks them to praise Luliam instead - for it was Luliam’s idea and plan that led to all this in the first place. Luliam, having realized earlier that Nana has been trying to keep her away from all the kingdom people’s unsavory whispers about her, is touched by the gesture.
Upon first seeing Luliam, Nana is stunned by her beauty. Her admiration for Luliam grows after the princess defends her lack of magic ability and chooses her as her saint partner despite her apparent lack of magical ability. Nana is demure and hesitant in speech, while Luliam is outwardly bubbly and maintains a positive attitude, constantly encouraging Nana. Over time, Nana becomes bolder in speech, especially when praising Luliam and in her attempts to protect Luliam from the kingdom’s disapproval of her. Nana becomes determined to not disappoint Luliam. They frequently blush around each other when complimenting or being otherwise very kind to one another.
Fanon[]
Nana x Luliam is a very recent, but also very rapidly popular pairing as the series has quickly gained popularity since its release. Although there are currently not that many chapters in the series, many readers have grown fond of and become attached to the pairing from their consistently caring and supportive interactions with each other. Fans find Luliam’s genki personality perfect for Nana’s low self-esteem and are pleased to see Nana turning the kingdom’s attention and praise back to Luliam after discovering that much of the kingdom fears and despises the princess. Their relationship is considered wholesome and sweet, and it is very clear to readers that the two are attracted to one another.

Trivia[]
- According to the mangaka, the pairing’s story is "a classic fantasy buddy yuri story set in another world.”[1]
- Nana's knowledge of fantasy isekai worlds comes from media she’s consumed in her world, which is in turn based on popular fantasy isekai media from the real world. In Chapter 1, she can be seen reading something called "I've Fallen in Love with the Villainess!" (“悪役令嬢は異世界にて愛される”).
- The series being referenced is most likely I'm in Love with the Villainess, which the mangaka has retweeted in support of on her Twitter page. This can be further supported by how a couple pages later in the same chapter, after being isekai’d, Nana assumes she must have an absurd amount of magic (similar to Rae Taylor).
- The digital version of the manga is released officially on Ichijin Plus, where Chapter 1 is also available for free in Japanese.
