NessVilly is the non-binary ship between Ness and Villager from the Super Smash Bros. fandom.
Canon[]
Ness and Villager are both playable characters in the series, Ness was unlockable from the very beginning while the Villager was added in the fourth game. They both have unique moves centering around the idea of absorbing their opponents attacks, Ness can only heal himself by absorbing air attacks like plasma and fire, the Villager can put any projectile in their pocket and throw it back whenever they want. One of the female Villagers playable in the series wears a dress with blue and yellow stripes, which are almost the same pattern as Ness' default shirt.
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U[]
In the event match "Playing Tricks", the player controls Ness with two Villagers as his opponents. The goal is to have Ness place two pitfalls around the battlefield so that the Villagers would fall into them at the exact same time.
In the Co-Op Event "Visiting Onett", Ness and Villager are a team fighting an assortment of space-themed fighters.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
In Ness' Classic Mode "Home to Onett!"; Villager and Isabelle are his last opponents before the final battle and are fought in Onett. The Villager is meant to represent one of the Sharks, a gang who Ness had fought in the town.
In Villager's Classic Mode "Mistake to Underestimate", Ness and Lucas are their third opponent. This might be a reference that neither are characters one would expect to fight in a game like this, given that the mode includes other opponents like the Wii Fit Trainers.
In the Spirit Battle for Paula from EarthBound, a pink-haired Villager represents her and fights alongside Ness as a reference to Paula being commonly accepted to be Ness' love interest. In the Spirit Battle for Ana from the prior game, the pink-haired Villager represents her once more, joined by Ness representing Ninten. In the Spirit Battle for the Girl from Hajimari No Mori, the female Villager in the green dress represents her, while Ness represents the protagonist of that game. In one Spirit Battle, Ness represents Power Pro-Kun and the Villager represents Aoi Hayakawa, Toon-Link joining them as Mamoru Ikari.
Fanon[]
NessVilly is overall a rarepair in the fandom, but is one of the more popular crossover ships involving the Villager. There's a general headcanon that all the younger fighters spend their time together, which can be used to explain how Ness met the Villager. The Villagers are often seen as children, though some found the idea of them still looking the same when Ness has visibly aged to an adult to be funny.
Most of the shipping between them involves the default male Villager, though female Villagers are also occasionally seen. When Ness is shipped with the default female Villager, the pink-haired one, she will often remind Ness of Paula. When shipped with the female Villager wearing a similar pattern as Ness' shirt, many like to think that she developed an obsession on him based on that one similarity, some even suggesting that she stole his shirt.
