Nevarry is the slash ship between Neville Longbottom and Harry Potter from the Harry Potter fandom.

Canon

First Year

Harry and Neville first met on the Hogwarts Express in 1991. Neville was searching for his toad Trevor but was unable to find him. After arriving at Hogwarts, they were both sorted into Gryffindor house and became both roommates and classmates for the remainder of their time at Hogwarts. They grow to become good friends.

During a flying lesson, Neville has an accident, breaks his wrist, and is taken to the Hospital Wing. While he is gone, Draco attempts to steal Neville's remembrall, but Harry flies after him and retrieves it back for Neville. Later, at night, Neville forgets the password for the Gryffindor Common Room and is locked out. The trio finds him, and Harry asks how his arm is. Neville ends up accompanying them, and the group are pursued by Filtch. They end up hiding on the third floor and end up meeting Fluffy, a three-headed dog. Neville is the first to see the dog, and tugs on Harry's dressing gown for a whole minute, before getting his attention. They quickly run back to the common room.

In a Charms class, Neville eyes Harry wanting to pair with him for a practice exercise, but Harry is partnered with Seamus Finnigan instead. Something he is thankful for, likely because Neville's skills in charms were subpar. A while later, Neville watches Harry play quidditch and is worried for him, as Harry's broom spins out of control, and Neville can't stand to watch and sobs in Hagrid's jacket.

At the common room, Draco performs a Leg-Locker Curse on Neville. To cheer him up, Harry gives him a chocolate frog and says he's worth twelve of Malfoy. This must have given him some confidence, since Neville later stands up to Draco, repeating the same words Harry said earlier, that he is worth twelve of him.

One night, the trio are, once again, out of their beds at night. They are trying to smuggle the dragon Norbert to the astronomy tower. Neville finds out from Draco, tries to warn Harry, but is too late, they are caught by McGonagall. The professor theorises the dragon was just a lie to get Draco out of bed late, and that the trio also convinced Neville of this lie. Neville looked stunned and hurt, believing McGonagall's theory. They all receive detention. For this, they are sent into the Forbidden Forest and are tasked with finding a unicorn. Neville is clearly scared and clutches the sleeve of Harry's robe for support. Harry later admits to feeling guilt, since it's partly his fault that Neville received detention. Though a few mishaps, they all finish the detention.

A while later, Harry, Ron and Hermione decide to leave the Gryffindor common room late at night to search for the Philosopher's Stone. Neville builds up the courage to stop them, and braces to even fight them. However, Hermione uses the Petrificus Totalus curse to paralyse Neville, and they all leave.

At the end of the term feast, Dumbledore awards 10 points to Gryffindor, for Neville's bravery in standing up to his friends. Harry, along with the rest of Gryffindor house, cheer for him on the achievement.

Fanon

Despite having many interactions, Nevarry is not a popular ship, and much rarer compared to other slash ship like Drarry. On AO3, as of 2022, they have over 733 fanfictions, just under the number for Draco/Neville.

Around 2004, there was a fest for Neville/Harry fanfictions called 'Woobies of Destiny'. They collected over 30 fanfictions for the pairing. A ship manifesto was posted in 2007 titled 'An Easy Fit', and suggests the ship appeal is due to their dynamic. Neville is brave, but a much softer personality, compared to Harry's headfirst attitude.

Many fans prefer to see Neville/Harry as a friendship, but it has attracted popularity by some fans, especially those that like rarepairs. It is considered a more wholesome and healthy pairing, over the enemies-to-lovers dynamic of ships like Drarry. A popular headcanon for the pairing, is the idea, that Harry teaches at Hogwarts like Neville, and from this they grow closer, sparking a romance. Their is some fanfiction and artwork of this scenario.
