New Sages is the friend ship between Mineru, Tulin, Yunobo, Sidon and Riju from the The Legend of Zelda fandom.
Canon[]
When the Upheaval began shortly after Link and Zelda's encounter with Ganondorf with the princess going missing, each of the Sages end up having to deal with the Regional Phenomenon occurring within their home; Rito Village is plagued by a blizzard that is cutting off merchants leading to a famine that threatens to kill off the Rito, Zora's Domain is suffering water pollution from the sludge that is afflicting the Zoras significantly, Gerudo Town is dealing with an extremely severe sandstorm and attacks by the Gibdos that force the Gerudo into hiding, and Goron City is tainted with infected rocks called Marbled Rock Roasts that is putting the Gorons under mind control. It was up to Link to travel to the four regions and save the tribes from annihilation.
Link helps Tulin get his bow back and Tulin uses his power over wind to help him cross wide gaps and to reach the Wind Temple so they can defeat Colgera and awaken as the new sage. Link assists Sidon in reaching the Water Temple in the sky to purify the contaminated water afflicting the domain, using aquatic power, and defeated Mucktorok and awakened as a sage. Link also helps Riju protect Kara Kara Bazaar and Gerudo Town from the Gibdos and with her power over lightning, she helps in defeating Queen Gibdo twice and became a sage. Link also helps Yunobo snap out of the trance and climb their way to Death Mountain and dive into the depths of the crator to deal with Marbled Gohma where he became the new sage. The New Sages returned the favor by saving Link from Ganondorf's attack at Hyrule Castle and he showed them the full extent of his power and complete lack of mercy through a vision. They later meet up with Purah to discuss all of the recent events that have happened, and they learn that there is one more sage waiting for them. Once Link solves the riddles leading to the depths where the Sage of Spirit was found and after constructing a Zonai robot, Link and Mineru defeat the Seized Construct where they personally meet for the first time as Mineru was hidden in the Purah Pad for eons and awakens as the Sage as she was in the past. With everything in place Link goes into the depths to finally settle the score with Ganondorf.
Once Link reaches the Gloom's Origin, the Sages save him from the monsters and together they fight Ganon's Army within the depths and once the bosses of the temples appeared, each of them deal with it while Link contends with Ganondorf. They soon join the battle once Ganondorf turns into his Demon King form, but he overwhelms them though Link is able to gain the upper hand. With the tides turning against him, Ganondorf takes the Secret Stone he stole from Queen Sonia and swallows it to become the Demon Dragon and takes Link above the surface, though Princess Zelda, who is the Light Dragon saves him and helps him destroy the Demon Dragon once and for all. The ghosts of Rauru and Sonia help Link revert the Light Dragon's transformation, returning her to her original form as Zelda before vanishing. During the epilogue, Mineru shows them the scene in the sky and bids them farewell before disappearing, with them vowing to ensure eternal peace for the world.
Fanon[]
The New Sages have grown to be quite popular with the fanbase enough to give them fanfics that focus and them as well as fan art that depicts them together. The fans have enjoyed the very fact that the Sages have played a much more active role than they did previously and how they have interacted with each other more when they are together which helps better convey that they are buddies who have gone through struggles with their homes. The ancient sages were not that popular due to their lack of an interesting background and character depth the Champions had, which was never touched upon besides guiding them and entrusting their Secret Stones to their descendants. Fans have definitely appreciated that they played a major role in the final battle and how helpful they are when they allow them to skip the boss battles at the end of the fight against Ganon's army and they were also there during the epilogue.
