Nickbox is the het ship between Nickel and Box from the Inanimate Insanity fandom.
Canon[]
Inanimate Insanity II[]
The two are placed as teammates of The Grand Slams for the season. During the pizza baking challenge, Nickel and Box, along with Suitcase and Knife, are sent off by Soap to gather ingredients. Later when Soap is unable to get a lifeless Box to give her sugar, Nickel doesn't think they'll need it since they're running out of time.
When Box is eliminated, Nickel sarcastically calls her helpful when Suitcase says that the team will miss her. Nickel then wonders what type of box she is, prompting the other contestants to try and figure it out.
Inanimate Insanity Invitational[]
After being stranded on an island, Nickel loathes having to be stuck with Balloon as he turns to Box to try and make her feel better. When the new contestants are introduced to the season, the teams are set and Nickel and Box become teammates once again. During the challenge when Balloon gets stuck in the air, Nickel looks back to Box before deciding to reluctantly help weigh Balloon down. After their team loses, Nickel is about to walk back to Box until Balloon approaches the two. As Balloon asks Nickel to keep putting the team first to help them as returning players, Nickel responds that he will need to consult his associate Box about it. Despite Box not saying anything, Nickel is shocked and takes it as a suggestion on who to vote for from Box. In the Calm Down Cabana, Nickel comments about how Box is quite convincing.
In the challenge of naming their team, after getting an agreement to be called The Sinkers, Nickel realizes that they haven't asked Box what she thinks of the name. Lifering and Nickel are met with silence and the former thinks that Box is unfazed by it. Nickel assures Lifering that she likes it and just simply was considering other options. Later on, Nickel turns to Box and gets the supposed conformation from her for Lifering to present their new team name to MePhone.
During the last few hours of the photography challenge, Balloon approaches Box and thanks her for finding Nickel. As Nickel explains his failed plan to get an embarrassing photo of Clover, he asks Balloon if he wants to chill out after feeling exhausted. Balloon agrees but claims that Box is still mad at Nickel for not partaking in the rest of The Sinkers' Raft Monster plan. In the elimination, Nickel and Lifering are tied at 2 votes while Balloon received 1 vote. As Balloon questions who voted for him, Nickel recalls getting 1 vote during their last elimination and asks Box if she would ever vote for them. MePhone then reveals that Box indeed voted for Balloon this time, shocking Balloon as he asks Box why she's been voting for them. When Lifering says it's because the two always talk over her, Nickel insists that Box is mad at Lifering for saying that and will vote him out. Lifering calls back to the time he saved Box's life, making Nickel criticize Lifering for expecting something in return for saving her. Nickel begs Box not to vote for him as he claims he'll never have any morals. In the tiebreaker vote, Nickel is spared as Box votes for Lifering instead.
While looking at the photos they took, Balloon brings up how Box is a threat to him and Nickel when she's voting for the two. Nickel thinks that Box must have simply just slipped and assures Balloon that she's with them to the end. He is about to say that Box is the only reason he and Balloon are getting along, though Tea Kettle interrupts them to bring the two a meal she prepared. As Nickel insults her food, Tea Kettle asks him and Balloon how they can ever trust Box again. She calls Box a liar and asks if she's ever prepared a five-course meal for them. When Balloon and Nickel realize that Tea Kettle just took food from the Pic-Nix table, the two walk away as Tea Kettle realizes that Box was sitting by them the entire time. In the challenge when Balloon is about to read a speech he's prepared, Box takes Nickel and Tea Kettle's attention away from him. Nickel compliments Box's supposed poetry as Tea Kettle does the same. As Nickel tries to get away from Tea Kettle, Balloon asks Nickel to go easy on Box since she's the only reason the two are tolerating each other. Nickel approaches Box and Tea Kettle, with more disgust towards Tea Kettle, and asks if the two need any help building a contraption for their egg. Later as he checks up on the two, Nickel compliments Box's handiwork skills and wonders if Tea Kettle has been distraction to her. Tea Kettle is irritated at first but decides to play along and support Box so that she has a better chance of staying in the game. Nickel is then seen yelling at Tea Kettle for what he sees as her trying to manipulate Box into going against him. Calling her his number one ally, Nickel tries to get Box away from Tea Kettle only for her to grab onto Box as well. Balloon is told to help Nickel pull Box away from Tea Kettle, but the three end up losing grasp as Box gets launched into the air. Nickel screams out for Box as the team watches her get hit with a hammer that throws her to the bottom of a hill. When Box's injuries cause her to get pulled from the show, Nickel hears that Box saved Clover's life by sparing Clover from getting hit from the hammer. Nickel, mad at Clover from an earlier challenge, becomes enraged that she indirectly caused Box's injuries. Later in the evening, Box apologizes to Tea Kettle for being territorial over Box.
Fanon[]
Nickbox is a rarepair in the Inanimate Insanity fandom. The ship mainly revolved around the first few episodes of the show's third season, where Nickel is shown to have a one-sided friendship with an insentient Box. Originally a slash ship at the time, the pairing was usually enjoyed by Box rarepair shippers who found the idea of Nickel developing a relationship with a literal inanimate box to be both humorous and enjoyable. After the movie finale when Box was shown to be alive, as well as being a female, the entire time, the perspective of the ship wildly changed among those who knew of the rarepair. Fans questioned whether Nickel would still have the same connection he had with Box back then if he saw her true self. However, other fans believed that their personalities would still work together in a way given that both make use of sarcastic humor that doesn't appeal to much of their peers. Others have made jokes about Nickel falling for Box because of the fact that she was revealed to be a girl. The pairing is rivaled by those such as Nickloon and Boxcase.
