On Sara's 18th birthday, Patrick makes a bet with her since she never had her first kiss. Patrick bets her $5 that she wouldn't go up to Oliver, who was a stranger she didn't know at the time and ask if she could kiss him. At first, Sara refuses, but gives in after Patrick jokes about giving her $50.
Sara notices that she was wearing the same shoes as Oliver and that Oliver was kinda cute. As Sara is about to wake up Oliver, the train wakes him up. Sara asks Oliver if she could kiss him, to which a shocked Oliver says no and calls her a weirdo. Patrick, Vicky, and Sara run into the train and left Oliver behind, much to his annoyance as that forced Oliver to walk to his brother Joe's apartment in the rain since that was the last train.
At school, Sara's teacher recommends Sara a tutor for her to meet after school to improve her grades. While walking home from school, Sara noticed Oliver in front of her and hides in some bushes. Sara sees him walking into the apartment building she lives in. She follows him in and sees him walk into the apartment across the hall from her apartment, realizing they're neighbors. Sara sighs and walks into her apartment, slamming the door.
A new student is introduced at school and Sara thinks it is Oliver at first. The new student turns out to be someone named Joseph, or Joe, and all the girls, including Sara, fall in love with him.
After school, Sara meets up with her tutor and finds out he is Oliver. Sara meets with Oliver with a different hairstyle, a scarf covering her mouth and circle glasses, in an attempt to hide her identity. Oliver already knows it is her since he received Sara's student file beforehand. Sara is left to believe that he didn't recognize her.
Patrick makes another bet with Sara that she couldn't talk to Joe by the end of the day. The loser has to do the winner's homework for a week, and Sara loses. The next time Sara meets up with Oliver for tutoring, she doesn't bother with a disguise. Sara vents to Oliver about the bet and claims her life sucked. After she finishes, an annoyed Oliver just asks if she was done, to which an angry Sara says he's a robot since she only heard about calculus since she met Oliver. Oliver mentions that he was supposed to help Sara understand calculus, not get paid to hang out with her. Oliver says it was difficult to help Sara understand, to which Sara says it was probably because he was a terrible tutor. Sara says he also needed to work on his people-skills and worry about the reasons why she struggled with calculus.
Oliver then forcefully asks how Sara's day was and why she was so upset. Sara says she isn't going to tell Oliver since she doesn't know him. Oliver quietly gathers his things and leaves. Sara quickly apologizes to Oliver and asks him not to leave as she needed his help to pass math. Oliver complies and Sara swiftly starts working on math before Oliver stops her.

It's revealed that after Patrick and Sara's kiss, Patrick told Oliver to make sure Sara got home safe. In present time, Joe asks Oliver if he would go for Sara romantically. Oliver becomes rather flustered and tells Joe to do whatever he wants. Joe mentions that Oliver said once that he though redheads are cute. Oliver leaves to take out the trash.
After school the next day, Sara runs into Oliver on the walk home. Sara apologizes about Oliver having to be there for all the crazy drama the other night. Oliver says it's fine and mentions how he volunteered to be part of some of the crazy drama. Sara asks about how Oliver and his brother just moved into town. Oliver replies with a short response which prompts Sara to ask many questions. In those many questions, Sara asks about Oliver's mom getting married. Sara stops herself to ask if that is a sensitive topic and tells Oliver that he doesn't have to answer. Oliver answers anyways and their conversation continues. Their conversation stops when the two get to their own apartments.
After learning that she might not get into university if her grades remain the way they are, Sara asks to talk with Oliver. Oliver asks if her professor said something. Oliver also asks why Sara doesn't just listen to him. Sara tries to explain and starts crying. Joe then asks Sara to be his girlfriend which causes Oliver to leave. Sara notices and Oliver says to leave him out of what's happening. Joe asks if Sara got in a fight with his brother and Sara runs off, crying, saying that everything is okay.
Season 3[]
After coming home from her date with Patrick, Sara goes out to her balcony and cries, saying she just wants things to be how they used to be. Oliver, who is also on his balcony by himself, notices Sara and calls out to her. Sara is surprised and asks what Oliver is doing spying on her in her personal crying space. Oliver defends himself by stating that he is in his house and that Sara was the one who came out to disrupt his privacy. Oliver says he didn't even realize their balconies are connected and asks how he was supposed to know. Oliver suggests that Sara should go in her room to cry. After Sara says that her room is too messy to cry in, Oliver lets her cry where she is and says he won't look at her since he's busy.
After crying in silence for a bit, Sara tells Oliver that it's too awkward and she doesn't feel like crying because of him. Oliver asks why Sara is crying and guesses that it's because of boys. Sara confirms Oliver's guess and tells him it's Patrick. Sara tells Oliver about her problems and mentions she's embarrassed that Oliver keeps running into her boy drama. She also says that Oliver already thinks she's a weirdo and that everything she told him confirms it. Oliver tells Sara that there's nothing wrong with being weird and that she should just embrace it. Oliver says that weirdness makes most great artists stand out more and be more interesting and that non-weird people are boring.
Sara asks if Oliver thinks she's interesting. Oliver is flustered and starts blushing but covers it up saying he just called Sara a weirdo. Though, he does confirm that weirdos are definitely interesting. Sara starts to laugh which causes Oliver to smirk. The two continue their conversation and Sara asks Oliver if he's working on lyrics for his song. Oliver says yes and that he sucks at it. Sara reassures him and tells him to just write about his feelings because he can't go wrong with that and that's what she normally does. Oliver brings up that Sara agreed to help Oliver in exchange for tutoring. Oliver also brings up the subway incident which causes Sara to ultimately agree to help Oliver.
Oliver thanks Sara for her help and leaves, saying he'll see her on Monday at lunch. Sara then guesses she'll have to write a song to pass the midterm exams.
The day of tutoring and their songwriting, Oliver contemplates giving Sara a loaf of bread and a bottle of strawberry milk before she arrives so she can focus. He talks to himself, going back and forth between giving it to her and keeping it in his bag. He puts the bread alone on the table and is soon dissatisfied when he thinks she'll choke on it. He then puts the milk back on the table as well and says it's for "productivity purposes." Sara comes in seconds later, rambling about her tardiness to tutoring. She then notices the snack Oliver prepared for her. She doesn't believe he's done such a nice thing for her at first but then starts thanking him with tears in her eyes.
They then begin to brainstorm ideas for their song. Whilst asking Oliver about his hopes and dreams as inspiration, she struggles to open her bottle of milk. After a few unsuccessful attempts, Oliver grabs it from her, brushing her hand in the process. Sara Lin blushes as Oliver opens the bottle for her and gives it back.
The next day, Sara is waiting at her door for Joe to come out of his apartment. Oliver comes out instead and explains that Joe left early. They step on the elevator to go to the lobby and Sara awkwardly tries to ask Oliver a question but stops herself. He asks her what she wanted to know but she brushes him off and says the question will make him uncomfortable. The elevator opens and she tries to run off in embarrassment but Oliver catches the strap of he bag. He claims that she can't let him open up to her without her opening up to him. Seeing his point, Sara awkwardly asks Oliver if he's had his first kiss. Oliver just sits there expressionless. Sara then tries to play it off, saying that she was kidding all along. She then explains how Joe tried to kiss her the previous night, but she got nervous and ran away. Oliver says that Joe wouldn't be upset about something like that and she shouldn't worry about it. After an awkward silence, they decide to walk to school together.
One night, after Oliver became upset about his brother's relationship with Sara and his own feelings for her, he storms out of his apartment and starts venting his anger out by hitting the wall, when he's seen by Sara who was arriving at the elevator and in concern, asks him if he's ok but he angrily told her to leave the elevator as he wants to take it to get out, but when he enters, Sara stops the doors from closing and goes along with him claiming she forgot something, despite Oliver wanting to go alone, and he soon realizes that Sara wanted to talk with him and asked her about what, to which she nervously replied that she only wanted to know why he was so upset and apologized to him if she was the reason of his anger, but he stopped her saying it wasn't her fault, but his and upon noticing that the elevator isn't moving, Oliver sees they're trapped and frantically bangs at the door to get out, after getting no response and forgetting their phones, the two sat down and Oliver commented that if Sara didn't follow him, he would be trapped alone and immediately apologized by yelling at her earlier and she accepted his apology and noticed that he always bottles his feelings out and encourages him to let them out, to which Oliver opened up about being angry at his estranged mother, at his brother for (albeit he hates being so) and confides in her that his stepfather sold his late father's guitar (which was the only thing Oliver had to remember his father) to a pawn shop and his mother didn't say anything about it and instead sided with her boyfriend, which led an angry Oliver and Joe to move out from their mother's house, which angered Sara and sympathizing with Oliver, she offered to help him to write a song to win a battle of the bands to win a cash prize to help him buy a replica of Oliver's father's guitar, to which a touched Oliver thanked her and also for letting him to vent out his frustrations, as it made him feel better and soon they were freed from the elevator by Joe.
Season 4[]
As Oliver walks to his apartment after Skylar confessed her love for him, he's thinking about the situation when sudenly Sara crosses his mind, which makes him start considering her too. He then realizes it's way past his curfew, so he rushes to his apartment and starts talking with Joe about what happened last night, since Sara had just broke up with Joe.
The next day in class, Sara's teacher mentions finals, and how it would be useful for students to get a tutor so they don't end up failing calulus. After hearing this Sara suddenly thinks of Oliver, and the time they both would be spending if Oliver helped her with studying, at the thought of this she blushes. After finishing talking with Patrick about their love life problems, she starts walking away and almost bumps onto Oliver as they both walked past the corner of the hall, they both apologise for that and then they both proceed to ask something to each other at the same time; Sara asks Oliver if he could help her with tutoring for finals, while Oliver tries to ask Sara how she is doing. Oliver asks Sara to continue with her question, since they both said different things at the same time, so Sara asks him if they could arrange a study plan, they both agree to meet up at Sara's place. When they finish talking Sara zooms off running, which leaves Oliver thinking she's a "weirdo" and asking himself what he sees in her.
On the day in which Sara and Oliver were supposed to meet up for tutoring and her place, when Oliver arrives at Sara's apartment they start organizing their things for tutoring, then suddenly Sara brings up how she met Oliver's mom at the elevator earlier that day, they talk about it for a bit and then Oliver mentions that his mom is having an art show at the end of the month, Sara asks him if he's going to go, to which he answers that he'll think about it. Right after that he lays his head on the back of the sofa where they were both sitting, right next to Sara, to which she blushes, since they were both close up to each other. Continuing with the art show, Oliver asks Sara if she would be interested in going to the art show, she riplies with yes and then Oliver confirms that then it's a date, Sara blushes because she thought that he was inviting her to an actual date; Oliver soon realizes the "mistake" with his word choice and reassures that it isn't a romantic type of date, they both blush intensely after that and start working on math. After a while studying, Sara starts to fall asleep. She wakes up right after realizing what she was doing, then she wonders if Oliver ever gets tired of studying. She looks at him to which she finds out that he was sleeping all the time. She thinks of the first time they met, and thinks about her feeling for him, next she starts having a mini existencial crisis, because she thought of the mistake that was dating Joe, Oliver's brother. She is sad about the fact that she will probably have to move on from her feeling for him, because of their age difference and her previous relationship with his brother. Then Oliver's head starts to nod off due to his deep sleep. Sara notices this and catches his head with both hands before it falls, leaving her blushing and asking herself if she really has to give him up; she then whispers "but you're so beautiful" To which Oliver wakes up. On the next episode, after Sara sees Oliver wake up she drops his head in panic. He hits his head on the table, leaving him bleeding on the spot that he fell on, so Sara starts panicking. She proceeds to call 911 thinking that Oliver's head was bad enough for him to need an ambulance, Oliver cuts the call and tells her to fins a health kit. She brings it in a hurry and starts taking out the items that she needs to take are of Oliver's head; she tells him that he should rest his head somewhere, he does as she says, but instead of resting his head on the other side of the sofa, he rest his head on Sara's lap, making her blush a whole lot, hen she starts curing his head while they both blush: Oliver asks Sara what happened that made him have such a bruise, Sara explains, they were both flustered after that.
Later on the day Oliver thinks of what happened that afternoon while tutoring, he tries to remember what Sara said before dropping his head, he knew he heard her right.
On the next episode, meanwhile he goes out of his apartment to go to school, he finds Sara going out at the same time, and they both walk to the elevator. Oliver hurries to close the elevator door as Joe follows them. Sara notices that Oliver was trying to avoid his brother; when the elevator arrives to the first floor Oliver rushes out of the apartment building taking the wrong way to the school, to avoid both Sara and his brother. Sara follows him and asks him about what happened and about his strange behavior, he replies that Joe was talking too much about something and making him uncomfortable, apparently he didn't know what to say in that situation. They change the topic to the art show that was coming up, and how Joe asked Vicky to go there with him, he was concerned that Sara was going to be uncomfortable with that, but she reassures him that she's ok and that she was the one that set them up. Then Oliver asks Sara that if she wasn't hurt or concerned about her situation with Joe, then why did she date him? Sara replies with that she wasnt sure about her feeling for Joe, and reassures him that she wasn't heartbroken; she asks Oliver why he was asking that, to which he asks her: "but what if next time, you do get hurt?" Leaving both him Sara blushing. She asks him why he was asking that, and he replies saying that if she ended up heartbroken, then her grades would drop and she woudn't be concentrated in studying, to it affected both of them (He didn't mean to say that, it was just to cover up his feelings for her and to not make the situation weird)
Some episodes after, Oliver finds himself thinking about what happened that morning, and how he did not mean to say that, but that he couldn't say anything else, confirming for us that he does like Sara.

Fanon[]
Olivara is rivaled by Satrick, Jara and Skyliver, although it seems to be a lot more popular than those ships. Many shippers started shipping Olivara since the first episode when Sara asked to kiss Oliver. Others started shipping after thinking that Satrick and Jara wouldn't work out due to the circumstances. Olivara can be shipped alongside Pammy and Joeky. A lot of artwork for Olivara comes from the author of The Kiss Bet herself, Ingrid Ochoa. This is another thing that causes people to ship Olivara.
The ship currently only has 7+ works on AO3.
Fandom[]
FAN FICTION
- Sara Lin/Oliver Yang tag on AO3
Trivia[]
- Sara called Oliver "subway boy" at first while Oliver called Sara "subway girl" at first.
