The Power of Two[]
Throughout the EXITors' mission of escaping Four, One blends in through her surroundings to watch over the contestants. Pencil and the others inside were unknowingly being observed by her: One disguises herself as a sticky note while Pencil, Four, and Bracelety are making cupcakes, One appears as a written number on an easel while the three are comparing drawings, and later she is directly on the stack Pencil and Bracelety are making up to Four's mouth.
During the EXITor debut, One summons a storm above the hotel that affects the event. The storm gets so chaotic that Pencil, Liy, and Bracelety, the last three remaining, end up having to be pulled inside. While Two and Four are distracted, One sneaks in and changes the debut whiteboard to allow for two contestants to join instead of just one. As Bracelety is the last one to lose in votes, Pencil and Liy successfully join the season. Given that Liy got more votes, Pencil would not have joined the game if One did not change the writing.
In the battle royale challenge, all of the contestants were each given a portion of Two's power earlier to fight off the rift in the sky. One watches the challenge from her dimension and smiles upon seeing Pencil gain power from killing Fanny. Later near the end of the challenge, One secretly hands a lantern to Pencil. Though she does not know One gave her it, Pencil uses the lantern to kill her opponent Liy by dropping it on her. Afterwards, Pencil confronts Four and blasts him off of the hotel roof using the powers she absorbed from him, where One catches Four right before falling as she teleports him away.
As Pencil is left alone, One suddenly confronts her and assures Pencil that she's been on her side. Pencil tries to zap One away but ends up reluctantly accepting her presence when One calmly restates her support for her. One explains how she knew Pencil got the second-most votes to join and was worried that she wouldn't be able to handle having to go back to the EXIT or a similar space. She tells Pencil that she changed the requirements so that she could join, shocking Pencil. One further explains how she relates to Pencil's desires to go back and fix her broken relationships with her friends, stating that it's not too late for Pencil to fix it. Realizes that One is referring to the powers she has from Two and Four, Pencil expresses uncertainty that she doesn't know what she's doing with them. After having suggested to Pencil that she go back in time with her power, she offers to help Pencil with it if she's herself is given the power. As Pencil is still uncertain since she hasn't met One before, One reassures Pencil that she's been watching her overtime and that they're going through the same issue: being trapped by Four while dealing with strained relationships. She tells Pencil that she wants Four's power to ensure that it never happens again. The two appear in One's dimension as she hands Pencil a contract, where Pencil confirms that she'll be given another shot to repair her friendships if she hands over her powers to One. One promises this and is then hit with a beam shot by Pencil, screaming during the process of the power being transferred to her. Back at the hotel, One levitates with her newly given power and Pencil orders her to do her part of the deal. One accepts and zaps Pencil where she is sent away.
Fanon[]
Onecil gained much traction after their first direct encounter in The Power of Two. Even before this, the ship existed as more of a rarepair by fans who knew that Pencil being able to compete in the season was One's doing. The pairing grew largely within lesbian shippers of the show with many shippers throughout fandom spaces calling enjoying them for being "toxic yuri". The pairing has gained a following on platforms such as Twitter and Tumblr, where ship art often has the two in an affectionate manner relating to One's mysterious nature and Pencil's hardships in the season. Fan works for the ship often explores the idea of One treating Pencil as more of a companion compared to the other contestants, paralleling One's appreciation for Pencil's chaotic nature which led One to the power she was seeking for.
On AO3, as of July 20, 2025, the ship has 9 works in its romantic tag and 7 under its platonic tag. It is the fourth most written ship for One on the site.
