Outset Siblings is the family ship between Link and Aryll from the The Legend of Zelda fandom.

Canon[]

Link and Aryll are siblings who live on Outset Island with their grandmother, who is their caretaker. They get along just fine, and Aryll wanted to learn how to pick up jars so she can help her grandmother with everyday chores. Most days, she would head out to play with the seagulls and hang out at the tower she calls Aryll's Lookout to look through her telescope. Link has a tendency to sleep in a lot, often in places besides his own bed at home, which has resulted in her having to go look for him.

When the story begins, Aryll is sent by her grandmother to find Link, which does not take long for her to locate him which is at the tower. Once Link wakes up, Aryll states that it's her favorite place to be and asks if he remembers what is happening today and soon reminds him that it is his birthday and tells him to go see their grandmother since she has something for him. When Link wearing his new Hero's Tunic, and comments that the new clothing would be too hot for the summer weather, (during the second playthrough she tells him that he always wears the same clothes) but compliments him regardless, Aryll then decides to lend him her telescope for the day, just because he is her brother and wants him to try looking through it. When Link does, she immediately suggests looking at the red postbox with the Rito mailman, Quill delivering something. When he becomes agitated, Aryll cries out tell Link to look up to see what she saw and witnessed the Helmaroc King carrying a girl his age over Outset with a pirate ship pursuing it and managed to strike it to force it to drop the girl into the forest on the summit. Aryll fears for her safety and wanted Link to save her but recommends getting a weapon first so he can protect himself in case he is attacked, hinting that he must visit Orca to get a sword to get past the trees blocking the way to the forest. After Link exits the forest with the girl, Tetra and Gonzo, Aryll greets them from the other side, but as she crosses the suspension bridge, the Helmaroc King strikes again and kidnaps Aryll, mistaking her for Tetra, to Link's horror, which he, with help from Quill convinces the pirates to let him take along to go rescue her.

Aryll is imprisoned at the Forsaken Fortress, along with two Windfall Island girls who were also taken from their fathers in a similar manner. When Link is forced to sneak through due to losing his sword upon being launched from the pirates' catapult, he eventually reaches the tower where she is held, but is unsuccessful due to the monstrous bird taking him out of the tower, which Aryll screams in despair. Unbeknownst to her, Link managed to survive thanks to a red boat named the King of Red Lions, who brings him to Windfall and eventually takes him on adventures to prepare to face Ganondorf, who is the Helmaroc King's master. Once Link gains the Master Sword from the forgotten kingdom of Hyrule, having long been submerged in the sea, he returns to the Forsaken Fortess and reaches the tower again, this time with more caution in case the bird came back, which fortunately did not arrive. Aryll is relieved to see him alive and well and Tetra and her pirates also came to help break open the cell door and were responsible for keeping the bird occupied in the first place. Once the door opens, Gonzo and Senza bring Mila and Maggie out of their cell while letting Link and Aryll have their reunion. Tetra reminds Link that he still has to deal with the Helmaroc King and assures Aryll that he has things other control before ordering the returning Gonzo to bring Aryll to the ship while Link takes care of the rest on his own. She later writes a letter to him about her time on the pirate ship, whose crewmates help her feel at home and lets him have the telescope a little longer while making him promise to return it when they reunite once more.

After Ganondorf's final defeat, Link and Tetra are greeted by the pirates along with Aryll, who now wears a maroon dress with a skull design, waving to him. During the epilogue, as Link and Tetra's crew leave to search for new land to settle upon, Aryll can be seen waving goodbye while getting teary eyed.

Fanon[]

The Outset Siblings ship has some level of popularity, due to fans believing that the game itself did not give their relationship enough exploration and have made a good number of fanfics to give them more focus, as well as creating fan art of them together. Even despite the short amount of time together, fans have grown to love their brother-sister relationship and how much they care about each other through and through. From Link's side, he is the most concerned for her safety when danger lurks and goes out of his way to help save her when she needs him and stops at nothing to ensure she isn't harmed, and he is noticeably disheartened when he had to deliver the news on her abduction. From Aryll's side, she is extremely considerate to those around her which especially includes Link and she is willing to let him borrow her telescope for the day, but due to the circumstances that pulled them apart, she lets him hold on to it a little longer until they finally get back together where he can return it to her. When it was found in the Japanese version of the Creating a Champion book that depicts Link with a father and sister, which they assumed to be Aryll or a sister who would have been intended to be given a different name but ultimately scrapped from the final product, Aryll was also included in many Breath of the Wild based stories where she has her family bond with Link while also being friends with Zelda and the Four Champions of the Divine Beasts.
