P3 Protagonists is the friend ship between Makoto Yuki and Kotone Shiomi from the Persona fandom.
Canon[]
Makoto and Kotone are protagonists in the Portable version only. They both shared the same backstory. They never met each other due to being in separate timelines. The only slight difference is that Kotone can save Shinjiro’s life by maxing out his Social Link, while Makoto can’t keep him.
Social Links[]
However, the main difference is that Makoto only has Social Links with female members of SEES, and the rest are mainly from his school or outside of school. Kotone has Social Links for all SEES members due to her strong bond with them. Makoto has romantic options for all of his female Social Links except Misuko due to being married, Kotone has a few romantic options for her male Social Links (Tanaka is only interested in money, Mutatsu is already married, and Akinari is dying from incurable illness) and one female Social Link (Aigis, who loves the protagonists either genders).
They also have the option to choose one of their love interest after maxing out as lovers to spend time in their last moments beside Aigis in New Game Plus.
In Reload adds an option for Makoto to have platonic relationships with his female Social Links just like his counterpart.
The Weird Masquerade[]
They are given the same surname, and their backstory is the same. This makes it sound like they are twin siblings, but one of them was killed in a car accident.
Persona Q2[]
Kotone first hears about her counterpart from her friends’ counterparts when she realizes the person in charge of SEES is a guy, not her since they don’t know her. Kotone officially meets Makoto in the deepest part of A.I.G.I.S dungeon. When they first meet, they have a familiar presence for some reason. After Makoto and Aigis reunite with SEES, Kotone shows no jealousy or hatred towards him. She is willing to join her counterpart’s SEES to get to know him and his friends.
After the final battle, before Kotone returns to her original world, Makoto stops her by telling her he’s glad he met her. She felt the same for him as they shook hands on good terms. She was about to ask him something but changed her mind and said to take care of himself. Makoto hopes they will meet again someday. They both return to their timelines. Unknown to them, not only they will lose their memories once they return to their respective timelines, but this is the last time they will see each other.
Fanon[]
The P3 Protagonist is a well-liked fanship in the Persona 3 fanbase. Despite never meeting in person or being born in the exact same timelines, fan fiction and fan art often portray them as fraternal twin siblings, cousins, or possible love interests. Many fans would prefer it if they were both in the same universe. Both survive without one of them becoming the Great Seal, and they get to live happy lives with their friends and loved ones.
