Paintball is the het ship between Mincy and Kel from the Omori fandom.

Canon[]

The two first meet when Kel notices Mincy practicing drawing in the town park. Kel compliments Mincy’s artwork, telling her that it "looks so real". He then says that it’s good enough to be sold for money. Kel further backs this up by asking Sunny for twenty dollars to buy Mincy’s artwork. Mincy responds by saying it isn’t for sale and that it’s for her portfolio to get into art school. Kel mentions that it would have looked great on his bedroom wall. They then introduce themselves to each other. Mincy then dejectedly tells Kel that he was the first person to say something positive about her drawings. When Mincy admits to questioning herself sometimes, he tells her that her drawing is great, and that he "wouldn't be able to do that in a million years!". He then tells her to believe in herself. She then diligently sketches away if Sunny agrees with Kel’s compliments. Later, Kel and Sunny come across Mincy drawing in the Othermart produce aisle. When Kel asks what she is drawing, she tells them that she is drawing fruit, but that she is "not so good at it". Kel then tells her she is good at drawing fruit. He then adds that while he doesn't like eating fruit, he would eat the fruit in her drawings. Mincy then thanks them for their compliments, and Kel cheers her on.

On the following day, Kel and Sunny come cross Mincy drawing in the town candy shop. When Kel asks what her "latest masterpiece" is, she tells them that she is drawing the various types of candy in the shop. He tells her that her drawing "looks great!". He then suggests that she should show the drawing to the shop's owner, Miss Candice. He then tells her that she should show Miss Candice or he will himself. When Mincy, now panicked, tells him not to, he tells her that he wouldn't do that to her, but still tells her that she should show it to Miss Candice after she is done. Later, they find her drawing flowers in the Fix-It Garden Aisle. Kel then calls himself her "#1 fan", after which she thinks them again.

The next day, they come across her drawing the stained-glass windows in the church. She points out that one of the windows is a slightly diferent shade. Kel then tells her that her thet the old window got broken when a kid accidentally threw a baseball at it. Kel mentions that he "probably should've aimed that better", and then quickly corrects himself, saying that he was talking about the kid who broke the window, not himself. Mincy then tells him that he's a "bad liar", but that she would "never snitch on my #1 fan!". She adds that she actually likes the fact that one of the windows is slightly different, stating that it "makes this place unique." Later that evening, they come across her enjoying the breeze in the town park. She thanks them for motivating her and cheering her on over the past few days. She then gives them a sketch of them that she'd drawn, which Kel calls "amazing". He then states that "looks better in this drawing that in real life!" She then states that if "everyone had friends like you, I bet the world would be a much happier place." Kel wishes her good luck in her attempt to get into art school, and asks her not to forget them when she becomes famous. She then states that she definitely won't ever forget them.

Fanon[]

Paintball is notably a small ship. It’s overshadowed by more popular ships like Baseball Bat, Suntan and Cactiflower on Kel’s side and Watercolors, SketchBook and Picture Perfect on Mincy’s side. The ship name “Paintball” likely comes from Mincy being an artist and Kel playing basketball. Paintball is mostly shipped as a friendship, though there are people that ship it romantically. There isn’t a lot of fan art of the pairing, but there is a bit of fan fiction. There are currently 14+ works for Paintball on AO3.
