Palucina is the Femslash ship between Palutena and Lucina from the Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem fandoms.

Canon[]

Both characters were made playable in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. They have a number of similarities in their designs, including unusual hair colors.

In Palutena's guidance for Lucina, Pit comments on the fact that Lucina's moves are awfully similar to Marth, only for Palutena to tell him that Lucina pretended to be Marth once. When Pit accuses Lucina of identity theft for that, Palutena defends her, saying that Marth was already long dead and had become the legendary "Hero King" by her time. She tells him that Lucina took that name to bolster the morale of her own army. Palutena compares it to a "symbol of hope at the depths of despair". Palutena then tells Pit that the tip of Lucina's blade doesn't deal as much damage as Marth's, but says that her attacks are more balanced.

Fanon[]

Palucina is rather bizarrely popular. Long after their reveals, they remain the most popular couple for both characters in the "Super Smash Brothers" tag on AO3. That is despite a relative lack of interaction in the game, with the one Palutena's Guidance conversation (which remained unchanged for Ultimate) being the one time in the series Palutena acknowledges Lucina at all. In fact, she actually interacts more with her father, yet they're not really shipped. The main reason why the ship even exists is because of a single image (which is the current page picture) being uploaded to Lucina's page on smashbros.com, a screenshot of Lucina resting in Palutena's lap. That's all it took, then the Super Smash Bros. community was flooded with Palucina content.

In the Smash fandom, Palucina rivals Robcina, one of Lucina's canon ships from her home series, which is still possible in the game. It seems to be shipped alongside Shobin, as that pairing makes sure that Robin is accounted for, allowing for Lucina and Palutena to get together with no guilt.

Barring the image, many argue that the two have fairly complementary designs and personalities, the neutral outfit of Lucina looks good with Palutena's dress and Lucina's stoicism paired with Palutena's occasional trollishness makes for a fun dynamic. Many like the idea of exaggerating Lucina's characterization and make her out to be yearning for Palutena's approval. In turn, some make Palutena out to be fiercely protective of Lucina and often imagine her being overbearing when meeting Lucina's parents (Chrom and Female Robin, more often than not). The pairing was so prevalent that when AwkwardZombie made a strip about Palutena and Lucina being roommates, some were surprised that the punchline wasn't Palucina-related. The fact that Lucina's home series frequently features romances between gods and mortals has only encouraged the support for the pairing further. After the release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, many have compared the ship to Rhealeth, calling the fem!Byleth version "canonically possible Palucina".
