Paulana is the femslash ship between Paula and Ana from the EarthBound fandom.
Canon[]
Paula and Ana have never met in canon. They do, however, share numerous similarities.
Ana and Paula are the only female members of their respective parties. They both have blue eyes and blonde hair adorned with a red bow of some sort. Both wear a pink dress with a white collar, white socks, and red shoes. Both have a connection to God. Ana is confirmed to be Christian, and Paula is implied to be by NPCs and her Pray ability during the battle with Giygas. Ana and Paula are both kind and like to take care of the children younger than them.
Ana and Paula both have a slew of deadly PSI abilities, with Freeze, Fire, and Thunder in common. They can also use telepathy, PSI Magnet, and PSI Shield. Both use frying pans as their primary weapons, although their physical attacks are fairly weak compared to the rest of their party members. For this reason their battle strategies are usually just using PSI. Both also have the highest amount of PP, that usually outweighs their HP.
Paula is the second member to join Ness's party, and while Ana is usually the third member to join Ninten's, it is possible (but very difficult) to get her second as well, before Lloyd. Both are reached in the storyline by someone telling Ness and Ninten specifically to go find Paula and Ana respectively. Upon meeting each girl, they say they were waiting for them, for Ninten to help Ana find her mother, and for Ness to rescue Paula from the shack cell. Both Paula and Ana seem to be attracted to their respective game's protagonist.

Paula and Ana are usually shipped together for being extremely similar all around. Paula is usually portrayed as more tomboyish and assertive than Ana. Some shippers make an deliberate attempt to differentiate the two, while others play on the dynamic where they're especially similar to each other.
Some would rather ship them in a family, such as sisters, since the two are very similar in appearance. While not as common, some even see them as mother and daughter. Similar to the "Ninten is Ness' dad" theory, some theorized that it is possible for Ana to be old enough to have Paula as a daughter, which could explain why Paula has similar PSI abilities. Regardless of whether, MOTHER actually takes place in 1989 or not (if it does, the mother-daughter theory wouldn't be possible), the theory about Ninten and Ness has been disproven multiple times, and in turn so has the theory about Ana and Paula, so it isn't that popular anymore.
Taking into consideration when the games take place, the years are often ignored and the two girls are shipped in a world where they are the same age at the same time. Paulana has a reputation for being the only notable femslash ship in the fandom. Despite that, it's still a rare pairing. It rivals Nesspaula and Nintenana. Some may ship Paulana due to liking Nesscas and Clausten over the rival ships, but still wanting to pair up Ana and Paula. Some can see the two girls bonding together over if their crushes for Ninten and Ness are unrequited.
