Both characters share very few interactions with each other in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. As such, their relationship with each other isn't overly clear, though neither character appears to think negatively of the other. At one point in Chapter 1, when Hiyoko Saionji is insulting Mikan, Peko nonchalantly tells her to stop. On chapter 2, Peko begins explaining how she's always been a tool after her trial, to which Mikan replied that she wasn't a tool.
In episode 2 of Despair Arc, while both girls were under the effects of aphrodisiacs, Peko tries to reach Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu, but is held back by Mikan who embraces her with a hug. She then asks Peko if she can borrow her sword while stroking the tip of it suggestively. Peko tries to resist Mikan, who then begins grinding against her while moaning in arousal.
In episode 9, Mikan carries an injured Peko back with the rest of their classmates, after a fight with Mukuro Ikusaba.
The ship sailed as a result of the infamous "soup scene." Where both girls were seen getting close together due to aphrodisiacs. Fans of the ship also find their contrasting yet similarly reserved personalities makes them a befitting match for each other. They are both shown to be introverted in different ways, with Mikan having generally poor social skills, and Peko herself stating that she is not good in situations where she has to be around a lot of people.
The ship also gained attention through a series of fan art that was drawn by huyandere, a popular artist on Twitter and Tumblr.
Due to having little to no interaction, along with rival ships such as Band Aid and Kuzupeko greatly surpassing it in popularity, the ship is not overly popular in the fandom. The ship has often been heavily criticized due to the uncomfortable nature of the soup scene, with Mikan's actions towards Peko being viewed as lewd and forceful. However, those who do support the ship tend to look past this scene, and prefer the idea of both characters having a more genuine, intimate relationship with each other.
- Both were the Blackened in back-to-back chapters.
- Peko's Japanese voice actress, Kotono Mitsuishi, also did the voice of Usagi Tsukino in Sailor Moon. Coincidentally, Mikan is voiced by Usagi's English voice actress, Stephanie Sheh.
