Pen-cil is the het ship between Pen and Pencil from the Battle for Dream Island fandom.
Canon[]
While forming teams, Pencil is slightly annoyed when Pen wants Blocky to join their team. Initially, Pin tries to use Pen and Pencil as oars for their boat. Pen is excited to be one but Pencil shows signs of concern.
Pen and Blocky attempt to get Pencil out of the grip of the fish monster's tongue.
Pen announces to his team, the Squishy Cherries, that he's connected two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together, with Pencil expressing impatience towards the progress.
For the relay race challenge, each contestant must carry a team member to a tree and back. After being carried by Eraser, Pen tells Pencil to get on. The two race to the tree and continue the Squishy Cherries' lead against the Squashy Grapes.
Pencil and the rest of her team fail to noice that Pen is being dragged along throughout the six-legged-race.
Pencil suggests Leafy that they should watch clouds with Pen. When they find him, Pen showcases them a pen that looks identical to him. Pencil find it cool and is inspired to grab a pencil of her own. As Leafy gets a leaf, Pen and Pencil are stabbed with their respective utensils. Blocky sees the three and takes the items away, relieving them. Pencil, along with Pen, Leafy, Blocky, and Spongy appreciate being puppets and celebrate before announcing that the stylistic change of the show was an April Fools' prank.
A graphite rod named "Pencil & Pen's Baby" is one of the many recommended characters in space gasping after hearing the Announcer's new plans for the competition.
When Pen is told the slim odds of getting Dream Island back after it was sold, Pencil tells him to get over it.
Pen and Pencil make up the mob of contestants chasing Leafy after she had stolen Dream Island. After losing sight of Leafy, Pen guesses on where she would be. Pencil brings out her Leafy Detector machine and tells Pen to detect instead of prospect. Pen follows Pencil as the machine brings her to Leafy's location.
In the book Battle for Dream Island: Official Character Guide, Pen's bio states that he is jealous whenever he sees Pencil being able to erase her writing.
Fanon[]
Pen-cil was an early pairing in the Battle for Dream Island fandom. The two being writing supplies and their similar names convinced some fans to draw a connection between the two. During the gap between the second and third season of the show, fanart and fanfictions of the two were at its prime. Despite the two not having interacted since the second season, fan content for Pen-cil still continues to be made. The ship rivals the two's most popular ships: Penraser (Pen x Eraser) and Matchcil (Match x Pencil). However, fans often pair the ship with Eratch (Eraser x Match) since it is of both Pen and Pencil's best friends respectively.
On AO3, there are four works under their relationship tag. It is the fifth most written ship for Pen and the sixth most for Pencil on the site.
