Penpad is the friendship between Penumbra and Launchpad McQuack from the DuckTales fandom.

Canon[]

Moonvasion![]

Launchpad is surrounded by the crowd at McDuck manor when he spots Penny take off her helmet. He's instantly attracted to her and goes over to complement her on her crash. He asks her out for coffee, and after a once over, Penny says that she could destroy him easily. Launchpad asks if that means yes, but doesn't get an answer.

They Put a Moonlander on the Earth![]

When Della points out that Penny hasn't experienced any of Earth yet, Penny points out that she went out for coffee. Della assumes like a date and asks with who. Penny thinks back to the date with Launchpad. He awkwardly asks if they get Darkwing Duck on the moon as she drinks some of the coffee. She states that the date is going terribly and leaves, as Launchpad looks on rejected. In the present, Della is confused why Penny would go out with Launchpad, but Penny just decides to drop it.

As Launchpad drives Webby, Dewey and Penny to the pier, he keeps looking back at Penny. He asks Dewey if he can ask a "best friend question" and Dewey says sure. He says that his date with Penny went really bad and that they should not be a couple. He doesn't know how to act around her now though and questions if they're meant to be enemies now. He questions if she's mad that he would be driving her and Dewey suggest that he just talk to her. Launchpad thinks that's a good idea, and gets out of the drives seat to climb up on the roof to talk to her. He asks if he should drive slower, or would rather have on of the kids drive, leaving Penny confused. Launchpad thinks he should just leave and then throws himself out of the moving limo out of fear of making her uncomfortable. Penny yells down that they lost Launchpad, as Launchpad is frustrated with himself for just not continuing to drive the limo.

When Dewey and Webby get trapped on the Glom Wheel, Penny and Launchpad realize that they're in danger as it starts to fall apart. Penny starts to run to save them, but Glomgold sets Gibbous on her. Launchpad then steps in front of her and tells her to save the kids while he holds them off. He then trips on a skate and in the process knock out Glomgold.

After Penny saves Webby and Dewey, Launchpad finally blurts out what he's needed to say. He apologizes for the bad date, but still thinks Penny is cool and doesn't want to be enemies. Penny stops him and says that they're not enemies, she's just not into guys. Launchpad is relieved and says that's way easier. She thinks he'd be a great ally in battle, and the two shake hands as Penny says she's fascinated by his fighting techniques.

Penny is with the Ducks and some moon people when Launchpad drives up and crashes into the coffee shop. He says hi to Penny, and Penny tells them that she and Launchpad are going to disassemble her ship, something she's noted that Launchpad is very good at. She throws Dewey, Della and Webey into the Limo and joins Launchpad at the front as they drive back to McDuck manor.

Fanon[]

The ship was originally controversial within the DuckTales fandom, given that it started off set up as a romance. Many fans weren't here for it, given that most already had ships for the two. When the new episode was announced there was some apprehension as to how their relationship would be handled, since many did not want the two to be in a romantic relationship. Many were very pleasantly surprised that the writers made the decision to not have the two be romantic, and instead have the two form a friendship. That along with Penny being confirmed to be a lesbian, led many to explore their friendship in art and fics happily.

Many fans see the two as jock bros, bi/lesbian solidarity, or the lesbian/himbo combo. This tends to be a favorite dynamic among LGBT fans and is greatly appreciated by many. Fans who enjoy their friendship typically also ship Drakepad and Dellumbra. Some explore the idea of the two becoming each others wingmen to pick of their possible significant others. Or even pointing out that Della and Launchpad would have crushes on someone whose main color is purple, while Drake and Penny would be into adrenaline junky pilots. Some fans also ship Delpad alongside Penpad.
