Petuniarry is the het ship between Petunia Rhubarb and Larry the Cucumber from the VeggieTales fandom.
Canon[]
Duke and the Great Pie War[]
Duke and Lucas meet Nona and her daughter in-law Petunia in an apple orchard. Though warned not to befriend Petunia because she’s a Rhubarbarian, Duke admires her kindness. Despite his clumsy attempts to impress her, he lets her gather apples from his orchard. Later, Duke learns that Petunia is a princess who gave up her royal life to care for Nona after the Great Pie War. To help them recover a lost family treasure — a golden duck crest — Duke agrees to enter a jousting tournament. Encouraged by Nona, Petunia shyly asks him to fight for her, and Duke promises he will. At the tournament, Duke faces the proud Otis the Elevated. He loses the first challenge, wins the second by solving a riddle, and then prepares for the final joust with pies instead of lances. Despite being mocked and told to quit, Duke refuses, saying true love means looking out for others. In the final match, Duke knocks Otis off and wins. He returns the crest to Nona and Petunia, reuniting their family’s treasure. Petunia thanks him for his courage, and the story ends with Duke and Petunia getting married and sharing a shy, happy moment together.
Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Samson’s Hairbrush[]
Larry plays the adventurous archaeologist Minnesota Cuke, a parody of Indiana Jones. Petunia Rhubarb plays Julia, a former archaeologist, ice cream shop owner, and researcher who helps Minnesota on his quest to find Samson’s legendary hairbrush, which is said to give great strength. Throughout the story, Julia and Minnesota work closely together. Julia is smart, confident, and practical — often guiding Minnesota when he gets nervous or distracted. Larry’s character clearly admires her, and their interactions have light, funny hints of affection, though nothing overtly romantic. By the end, Julia helps Minnesota learn the true lesson: that real strength comes from God, not from objects or revenge. She respects him for his courage and faith, and he’s clearly impressed by her wisdom and kindness.
Moe and the Big Exit[]
Moe is chased by a bear up in the mountains and falls into a well. A Native American girl named Sally and her pet buffalo, Zippy, find him while getting water. Sally accidentally drops him back in once, but eventually pulls him out. When the bear returns, Moe grabs a branch and whacks it on the nose, scaring it off. Impressed, Sally introduces herself, and Moe does the same. A song begins about Moe and Sally falling in love. Sally invites Moe to dinner with her parents, and he follows her back to their camp. The narrator explains that Sally’s family is grateful that Moe saved her, and Moe is grateful to feel appreciated. Eventually, Moe and Sally get married and have a child named Gherkin. In the end, Sally and her family congratulate Moe for doing what God asked him to do.
Fanon[]
Among fans (especially longtime VeggieTales viewers), Larry and Petunia are often “shipped” (paired romantically) because of their recurring roles together. They point out how Petunia brings out Larry’s more thoughtful side, while Larry makes her laugh — a very classic cartoon chemistry, and treat it as a cute, innocent “what-if” rather than a serious romance.

Trivia[]
- Mike Nawrocki, co-creator of Veggietales and the voice of Larry has commented that Larry and Petunia’s chemistry is intentional but gentle.
- He’s said in interviews that Larry “has a big heart and gets smitten easily,” and Petunia often becomes the one who helps him grow or see the moral of the story.
- The writers often used their pairing to explore themes of kindness, courage, and selflessness through romantic parables — like fairy-tale or medieval stories.
- According to Tim Hodge, even though she and Larry are paired up in many episodes, they're just friends outside of the shows.
