Phainon first meeting Caelus

Phainon and Caelus first meeting.

Caelus’s first encounter with Phainon happens on Amphoreus after he and Dan Heng crash-land in the Abyss. During a tense standoff, a white-haired youth suddenly interrupts, placing a hand on Caelus’s shoulder and disabling Dan Heng’s spear with a confident smirk. Although his entrance seems hostile, he quickly clarifies that he means no harm and is simply trying to prevent conflict in a dangerous area. He explains that weapons can provoke the Strife Titan’s forces, endangering refugees. Despite Dan Heng’s criticism of his aggressive approach, the youth—Phainon—is defended by his companion Tribbie, who scolds him for damaging the spear and makes him apologize.

Upon learning that Caelus and Dan Heng are Trailblazers, Phainon reacts with surprise, repeating their origin as “beyond the sky.” He stresses that their sudden arrival raised alarms because they are working to protect vulnerable refugees and escort them to Okhema. He formally introduces himself as Phainon of Aedes Elysiae and apologizes for his rash actions earlier. Caelus is then offered several dialogue options, ranging from teasing comments to more serious responses, prompting varied reactions from Phainon and a few dry remarks from Dan Heng.

Depending on how Caelus introduces himself, Phainon’s dialogue changes slightly. If Caelus directly identifies as the Trailblazer, Phainon remarks that “friction really does spark friendships” and returns his weapon. If Caelus refers to himself as the “Galactic Baseballer,” Phainon questions the nickname and presses for his real name before giving the bat back, while joking about the weapon being a marvel. An additional choice allows Caelus to note their similarities, leading Phainon to call it fate and repeat his line about friction sparking friendships. Each path ends with him returning Caelus’s weapon.

Meanwhile, Tribbie ensures Dan Heng that his spear will be repaired, while Phainon jokes that he will owe drinks to Chartonus for the trouble. With tensions easing, Dan Heng suggests they travel together for safety. Phainon and Tribbie agree, offering to lead the Trailblazers through the dangerous terrain, signaling the start of their alliance.

Their journey soon takes them to a temple where a heated confrontation unfolds between Virtus, a priest of Janusopolis, and Elder Noldus. Noldus denounces Virtus for independently seeking help from the Chrysos Heirs and resists the idea of relocating to Okhema. He argues that as followers of the Janus Titan—symbolized as footless birds—they must reject a confined life, even as threats rise. Despite Virtus’s concern for safety against the Strife Titan’s forces, Noldus clings to faith in Janus’s protection and invokes a prophecy about the “end times.” When Phainon steps in to mediate, Noldus firmly yet respectfully rejects his advice, asserting their right to choose their own fate.

After Elder Noldus departs, Virtus warmly greets Phainon, thanking him for remembering their long journey after the destruction of their city. He reveals that he had prayed for aid, never expecting such a swift answer. Phainon introduces Caelus and Dan Heng as fellow travelers headed toward the holy city. Depending on the player’s choice, Caelus may remark on the struggles every place faces or question why the refugees remain behind. Dan Heng presses Virtus about the “end times” prophecy, which Virtus assumes is common knowledge. Phainon then urges the group to focus on convincing Noldus to return, sending Tribbie with Caelus and Dan Heng to aid in the search.

If the player chooses, Caelus and Dan Heng discuss the matter privately. Dan Heng voices doubts about Phainon’s openness, suggesting he may be hiding the truth about their origins as visitors from beyond the sky. He recommends cooperating for now while seeking further insight from Tribbie. When preparations are complete, Phainon expresses gratitude and entrusts the refugees’ safety to himself, encouraging Caelus and Dan Heng to move quickly. Optional dialogue at this point reassures them of his protection. Later, Phainon explains more about Amphoreus—the “end times” prophecy, the Titans’ fall from gods to adversaries, and the Chrysos Heirs’ divine bloodline. Tribbie interrupts when Phainon downplays miracles, offering instead to explain through a traditional ballad.

Tribbie’s song recounts Amphoreus’s creation myths and the divine roles of the Twelve, with special reverence to Kephale, the Worldbearing Titan. The poetic moment ends when their rescue arrives, prompting Phainon to prepare the refugees for travel. Caelus and Dan Heng are introduced to Dromas, gentle beast companions. When Caelus mistakenly steps on their sacred stone humps, he is thrown off, forcing Phainon to calmly explain their significance. With this knowledge, Caelus succeeds in riding under Phainon’s guidance. Elder Noldus later praises the group for restoring his faith, calling them heroes, as the caravan sets off toward Okhema.

Upon arrival, they find the holy city under siege by Furiae. Caelus and Dan Heng fight alongside citizens who mistake them for Chrysos Heirs, while Dan Heng stresses the importance of finding Phainon. Reunited, Phainon admits the attack was unexpected and that Nikador, the Strife Titan, is on a rampage. Despite hesitating out of concern, he allows them to help so long as they remain close. During the defense, Phainon is joined by three identical allies—Trianne, Trinnon, and Tribbie—revealed to be fellow Chrysos Heirs. Together, they coordinate evacuation efforts. Conflict then arises with Mydei, another Chrysos Heir, who criticizes Phainon’s judgment and accuses him of protecting outsiders like Caelus and Dan Heng. Although tensions flare, Phainon stands firm in defending them.

Phainon, Caelus, and Dan Heng then push toward the Marmoreal Palace, where Phainon admits his past fear of Nikador’s battle cry. He warns this could be their last chance to turn back, but Caelus and Dan Heng remain resolute. After enduring oppressive trials, they enter the arena where Phainon instinctively shields Caelus from looming danger. Together, they battle Nikador’s twisted form. Phainon protects his allies during the fight, but when the Titan falls, Aglaea appears, revealing that the defeated form was only a divine projection. She welcomes Caelus and Dan Heng as honored guests of Okhema, while Phainon reflects that his true trials lie ahead. He entrusts Aglaea with explaining Amphoreus’s deeper truths, prioritizing the city’s stability.

Before parting, Phainon invites Caelus and Dan Heng to find him at the Marmoreal Market if they tire of Aglaea’s long speeches, promising his hospitality. Aglaea, intrigued by their cause, offers to continue their conversation in private. With Dan Heng requesting time to set a Trailblaze Anchor, she agrees, marking the Trailblazers’ presence on Amphoreus and closing the chapter on their first battles alongside Phainon.

Distant Travelers, Listen to this World's Prayer[]

Caelus and Dan Heng reunite with Phainon, who is conversing with Chartonus about the burdens of the past. Surprised at how quickly they parted from Aglaea, Phainon warmly greets them and presents Dan Heng with his repaired spear. He reveals that he had entrusted the weapon to the most renowned Grand Craftsman in Okhema and offers a heartfelt apology for his earlier hostility during their first encounter. Dan Heng examines the spear and praises its flawless restoration, acknowledging Phainon’s efforts.

Phainon reflects on how little he had considered life beyond Amphoreus until meeting Caelus and his companion. Their arrival, he admits, has broadened his perspective. He then speaks of the tripartite prophecy tied to the Chrysos Heirs, explaining that while its origins remain uncertain, many believe it to be the final message of Kephale, the Worldbearing Titan.

When Caelus asks about Phainon’s personal role in the prophecy, Phainon confesses that he is still searching for his true purpose. However, he firmly believes his “Coreflame” lies with Nikador, the Strife Titan. He shares that since his youth, he has trained as a soldier, dedicating himself to breaking the Lance of Fury and claiming the Coreflame of Strife as his destiny.

Realizing the weight of such a conversation, Phainon lightens the mood by suggesting they exchange teleslate contacts. His demeanor softens, revealing both trust and camaraderie with Caelus and Dan Heng after their trials together.

Before parting ways, Phainon encourages Caelus and Dan Heng to enjoy the clear skies and explore more of the holy city. He promises they will see each other again soon, leaving them with a sense of both hope and anticipation for what lies ahead.

Night Stars, Accompany My Slumber[]

When Castorice attempts a procedure on Caelus, her touch sends a chilling sensation through his veins, blurring his vision and pulling him into a purple ocean she calls her promised land of flowers. Just as he begins to accept a sweet demise, an unknown voice interrupts, which Aglaea identifies as Phainon. Caelus awakens, realizing he is still alive, and Phainon reassures him that not even the Death Titan could end his journey so soon. Speaking on his behalf, Phainon recalls how he first met Caelus in the Abyss with suspicion but grew to trust him through battles in defense of Okhema, even placing his life in Caelus’s hands. He refuses to lose such an ally when Okhema needs help most, and Castorice quietly supports this, noting she sees death as a farewell rather than a punishment.

Aglaea reflects on both Phainon and Castorice’s support for Caelus and Dan Heng, then admits she had been too forceful. She entrusts Phainon with continuing to look after them, and he accepts, promising to do his best even if formalities aren’t his strength. When Dan Heng voices frustration over the lack of trust, insisting they cannot cooperate under such conditions, Aglaea allows them the freedom to decide whether to stay or leave, admitting that Phainon’s words have moved her to make an exception. As they prepare to depart, Phainon approaches Caelus, apologizing for not arriving sooner, and asks him to hear him out before making his decision.

Later, as Caelus follows Phainon deeper into the Vortex of Genesis, Phainon apologizes for not arriving sooner and reassures him that his life had never truly been in danger—Castorice had already warned him to intervene. Though embarrassed by the attention, Phainon humbly deflects the praise Caelus offers, revealing his modest and sincere character. As he explains the sacred constellations overhead, Phainon invites Caelus to listen to the whispers of the Titans and begins to share his story: a boy once ignorant of life’s meaning, now devoted to reclaiming Coreflames in a prophecy-bound war against gods. He expresses gratitude that the prophecy chose him and offers Caelus a heartfelt invitation—to fight by his side as a Chrysos Heir and join him in hunting Nikador, the Titan of Strife, his destined enemy. Phainon assures him that if doubts arise, he will be there to answer them, and when Caelus listens to the constellation’s voice and returns, Phainon eagerly asks what he felt, showing his genuine desire to understand his experience.

As the decision to stay or leave Amphoreus falls to him, Phainon assures Caelus that he will do everything he can to close the distance between him and the Chrysos Heirs. He acknowledges the challenges ahead, including thawing Aglaea’s frozen heart, but subtly shows his trust in Caelus by believing in his place among them. In return, Caelus receives not only Phainon’s trust but also a personal promise: that he will not face this path alone if he chooses to walk it.

If Caelus chooses to remain on Amphoreus, Phainon is overjoyed, calling him “the hope of Amphoreus” and affirming that the Chrysos Heirs’ cause must include allies like him. He believes their victory over Nikador will ease Aglaea’s doubts. When Castorice suggests rest, Phainon apologizes for speaking too long, explains how to exit the Vortex, and encourages them to recover in the bath chamber, hoping for news from Trianne by the time they awaken. If Caelus instead decides to leave, Phainon does not protest; he acknowledges the unfair treatment they received upon arrival and sincerely thanks him for his empathy. He offers to escort Caelus and Dan Heng back to their landing site, later advising Caelus to rest well as they await the next steps in reclaiming the Coreflame from the Lance of Fury.

After waking from a dream, Caelus speaks with Dan Heng, explaining that he heard a voice — not the Stellaron, but something like an animal that he could somehow understand. Dan Heng remarks on how strange that sounds and advises caution, warning that even seemingly harmless dreams might hold danger. He tells Caelus to remember every detail, as it could be tied to Amphoreus’ rules. Dan Heng also reflects that while Caelus slept, he considered how difficult leaving Amphoreus might be, cautioning that flying out could provoke divine wrath. Their conversation is interrupted when a sudden message arrives — from Phainon.

“Did you both get a good rest?”
— Phainon

Depending on Caelus’s reply, Phainon responds with varying tones:

Caelus“I'm ready to tackle something big!”
Phainon“Nice. You're all fired up.”
— Version 1: Fully recharged
Caelus“Didn’t sleep too well.”
Phainon“That’s not good. Is there an issue with the bath’s atmosphere?”
— Version 2: The rest wasn’t great
Caelus“Oh, it’s you — I was expecting someone else.”
Phainon“Who were you expecting? Did someone beat me here?”
— Version 3: Oh, it’s you...

Regardless of his answer, Dan Heng follows up by asking Phainon if there’s anything he wants to discuss. Phainon then shares good news:

“I’ve got some good news! Teacher Trianne has located Castrum Kremnos. Hurry to the Chrysos Heirs’ Bath in the Marmoreal Palace, and let’s get ready to take on Nikador!”
— Phainon

He then softens his tone for their sake: “Ah, you can rest for a bit longer. No rush. Take it easy.”

Later, Caelus joined the Chrysos Heirs at the baths, where Phainon greeted him warmly. Mydei expressed doubt about trusting outsiders, but Phainon brushed it off, suggesting Mydei should try making friends. When Aglaea revealed the discovery of Castrum Kremnos and the plan to defeat NikadorStrife Titan, Phainon immediately volunteered. He also vouched for Caelus and Dan Heng, highlighting their courage in the past battle. However, with Aglaea allowing only one foreign warrior, Phainon directly chose Caelus, praising his versatility and skill in combat. Turning to him, Phainon asked if he would fight by their side. Upon Caelus’ agreement, Phainon affirmed their formation and declared to Aglaea that the three of them—himself, Mydei, and Caelus—would take on the mission. Aglaea gave her blessing, officially confirming the expedition team.

Kremnos, Cleanse Thy Rusted Blood (I)[]

After returning from the Abyss, the group splits into two teams: Phainon goes to aid the exhausted Mydei, while Caelus stays behind to search for a way to uncover NikadorStrife Titan’s weakness. Phainon tells Tribbie that although Oronyx, the Time Titan, had refused their request, he unexpectedly took interest in Caelus and gifted him a companion creature named Mem. Entrusting this crucial task, Phainon turns to Caelus and sincerely asks if he can rely on him. If Caelus responds, “Be careful, you’re not indestructible,” Phainon confidently assures him that survival is his specialty and promises that he and Mydei will be waiting on the battlefield. When Dan Heng offers to join him, Phainon gratefully accepts, confirming their roles: he and Dan Heng will head to Castrum Kremnos, while Caelus will work on discovering the Titan’s hidden weakness. Before leaving, Phainon entrusts Caelus’ safety to Castorice and gives him a final nod of trust.

In fanon, Caelus and Phainon are often portrayed as an inseparable duo whose bond grows stronger through their shared battles on Amphoreus. Fans love to highlight the contrast between Caelus’s adaptable, adventurous spirit and Phainon’s stoic, duty-bound nature, seeing it as a dynamic that balances them both.
