- —Mydei to Phainon in 'Light Slips the Gate, Shadow Greets the Throne' Trailblaze Mission
PhaiDei is the slash ship between Phainon and Mydeimos from the Honkai: Star Rail fandom.
Canon[]
Phainon and Mydei are fellow Chrysos Heirs as well as warriors of the "Eternal Holy City" Okhema. The Chrysos Heirs are individuals chosen for a prophecy by the Worldbearing Titan, Kephale. The members follow the Flame-Chase Journey, where they are prophesied to retrieve the Coreflames from the Titans and ascend to Demigods in order to save Amphoreus. The Heirs must complete a Coreflame Trial in order to rise as demigods, inheriting their respective Titan’s divinity.
Phainon, the “Nameless Hero”, is a charming and outgoing young man who is destined to become a hero and save Amphoreus. He hails from Aedes Elysiae, a small and relatively unknown town that was, according to him, destroyed by the Flame Reaver. This left Phainon as the sole survivor of his small village. He harbors deep resentment against the Flame Reaver. Phainon is destined to bear the Coreflame of the Worldbearing Titan, Kephale, and succeed Aglaea as the leader of the Flame Chase journey.
Originally intending to inherit the Coreflame of Strife, he attempts to pass the Trial of the Strife Titan, Nikador, but fails due to the Strife trial feeding on his rage and want for revenge. He is saved by Mydei with and The Trailblazer and Dan Heng by his side, and is safely pulled out of the trial. It is revealed afterwards that Aglaea never intended Phainon to succeed in the Trial of the Strife Titan. Despite his upbeat persona, he avoids talking about his past, only doing so when Mydei confronts him about it following his failure in the Trial of Strife. It is only then that we learn the little we know of his hometown, Aedes Elysiae.
- Mydei – “Worry about yourself first, Deliverer. You also never mention your hometown apart from when you need to introduce yourself.”
- Phainon – “Well... It's because there isn't much to say. Aedes Elysiae is simply a tiny village that disappeared many years ago in the flames of war. The only times I get to see it are in my dreams... and in... [...] ...And in the trial from the Lance of Fury.”
- Mydei – “I knew it.”
- — In 'Light Slips the Gate, Shadow Greets the Throne' Trailblaze Mission
Mydeimos, also known as Mydei, is the crown prince of Castrum Kremnos. Castrum Kremnos was a kingdom lost to the black tide. Mydei is now the demigod of Strife, after having inherited the Coreflame of Strife, despite his initial reluctance. He bears the curse of immortality, thus being nicknamed “Mydeimos The Undying”. He was born into Kremnoan royalty with King Eurypon and Queen Gorgo as his parents. Eurypon, bewitched by traitors and fearing the prophecy that he would die by the hands of his son, throws him into the Sea of Souls in an attempt to kill him. Due to his curse, Mydei survives, drifting along the river for years. Gorgo, enraged by Eurypon's actions, challenges him to a duel to avenge her son and ultimately loses her life, weakened by poison. In the following years, outside of Castrum Kremnos, Mydei becomes the leader of the Kremnoan Detachment, fighting alongside exiled Kremnoans. He learns of Kremnoan history through them and of his mother's sacrifice, vowing to kill his father and avenge his mother. He gains the following close companions: Hephaestion, Perdikkas, Leonnius, Ptolemy, and Peucesta.
Mydei eventually carries out his revenge, continuing the cycle of patricide in the Kremnoan Dynasty. Krateros, previously Eurypon's servant, who he'd deserted following Gorgo’s death, tried to convince Mydei to become the new King of Kremnos following the death of Eurypon. Much to his dismay, Mydei refuses, instead leaving Castrum Kremnos behind in order to lead his people towards Okhema. Krateros tries to convince him to become King once again when Mydei inherits the Coreflame of Strife, but his answer remains the same. He puts an end to the cycle of bloodshed and patricide, and dedicates his all to the Flame-Chase Journey.
Upon their first meeting, the two young Chrysos Heirs fought for ten days and ten nights, ending in a tie.
- “I've fought with him several times, battling for dozens days and nights without a clear victor. I know the strength of this man, and because of that, he is worthy to have my back.”
- — Mydei voice line, 'About Phainon'

Phainon and Mydei competing to see who'll last the longest in the hot bath
Since then, they often challenge each other over the most mundane of things. Demonstrating their youthful nature in moments on impulsivity. Unfortunately, this sometimes ends up causing harm to innocent bystanders, as shown during their hot bath competition in the 3.1 Trailblaze Mission, "Light Slips the Gate, Shadow Greets the Throne"[7].
Heroic Saga of Flame-Chase Trailblaze Mission[1][]
Their relationship is first introduced during a surprise attack on Okhema, where Phainon brought Dan Heng and the Trailblazer to defend against the monsters. Mydei appears to help, calling Phainon by his alias of “Deliverer”, and the two act confrontational with one another while discussing the presence of the Express Crew. Dan Heng says that they do not seem to be on friendly terms.
However, it is gradually revealed that they are closer than what their initial interaction displayed. When the Trailblazer next finds him, Mydei is willing to keep them safe supposedly out of concern for Phainon’s weak and fragile heart, already indicating that he cares for him beyond their supposed rivalry. The next they are seen together, Mydei shows further distrust in the Trailblazer and Dan Heng, where Phainon says that Mydei should really make more friends. They then join together in the Crusade against Nikador alongside the Trailblazer before leaving for Castrum Kremnos, Mydei’s hometown. While leaving through the Century Gate opened by Trianne, Phainon teasingly asks Mydei if he’s scared of fending off an entire army. When they arrive at Kremnos, Mydei gets back at Phainon, asking Phainon if he’s scared of the strong warriors of Kremnos, and saying it’s not too late to run.
After the Trailblazer repairs a bridge and then interacts with a switch, Phainon comments that a gate opened, to which Mydei mockingly interrupts him by saying “Genius. We never would have known if you hadn’t said anything.” Mydei’s attitude with Phainon persists when Phainon asks Mydei to guess what he’s thinking, where Mydei says that it’s probably nothing good.
Phainon goes on to suggest recreating the original Kremnos Festival, the grandest fighting competition in Kremnos, by competing to see who can kill the most crazed Titankin. The prize would be the privilege of delivering the final blow to Nikador. Mydei accepts the challenge, and Phainon says that he knows that Mydei prefers to fight alone, telling Trailblazer to go on the same path as his, while Mydei took the other. Phainon tells Mydei that he won’t add the Trailblazer’s kills to his own count, as to which Mydei says that it wouldn’t matter even if he did, giving Phainon and the Trailblazer a ten-step head start as they aren’t familiar with the land like Mydei is. Phainon laughs to the Trailblazer about how Mydei has already thought he’s won, knowing of Mydei’s Kremnoan pride. If the Trailblazer chooses to talk to Mydei, he asks why you’re still standing there. Phainon tells him that 10 steps is too generous and gives Mydei “one” back.
When the Trailblazer asks about the merit of splitting up, Phainon reassures them that him and Mydei are both strong and can fare by themselves. He reveals that he also sent Mydei off on his own after seeing the homesickness in Mydei’s eyes, commenting that he doesn’t want to show it to anyone else and that nothing is more important to Mydei than his people and his glory. Knowing Kremnos is the only place where Mydei can be free, Phainon hopes that he can have “a good cry” alone. With Mydei’s remark on Phainon’s soft heart, along with Phainon’s understanding of Mydei’s character, it’s obvious how close they are to each other beyond their rivalry.
The Trailblazer comments on this closeness and how much Phainon cares about Mydei, as to which Phainon says that they have always been both friends and foes ever since they met, and that working with Mydei always brings out his competitive side. Before being able to elaborate, Mydei yells from across the ruins, smugly asking if the two standing there means that they’ve given up already. Phainon retorts by saying that they’re talking “strategy” before going on with the competition. They bicker some more from a distance while the Trailblazer watches, and after completing a puzzle to get rid of the lightning on a huge chain they must cross, Phainon teases Mydei by saying he looks stumped while going ahead. While crossing the chain bridge, Phainon yells that Mydei is nimbler than he thought, and Mydei tells him to worry about himself, considering there’s an abyss underneath them.
Phainon and the Trailblazer find a slate with indecipherable text, and when they both fail to translate it, Phainon calls Mydei an expert with strange languages, telling them to just ask him to translate when they meet up again. In a hallway, they run into enemies, where Phainon and the Trailblazer start hyping themselves up by calling themselves the “Dark Swordmaster” and “Galactic Baseballer!”, and Phainon pretends that they have a crowd cheering for them. Phainon is interrupted by Mydei’s exasperated yelling of how Phainon’s delusions are seriously getting on his nerves, and Phainon calls it unfortunate noise from “outside the arena”. There is no arena.
- Phainon – “With their exceptional strength and perfect teamwork, these two gladiators have bested every opponent...”
- Mydei – “...But the glory they've been striving for has not come as anticipated.”
- — After finishing the battle, in 'Wasteland, Hark Back Glory of Old'
When the three meet again and check on their count, Phainon brings up the indecipherable slate, calling Mydei his “only hope now”. Later on, Phainon and Trailblazer find a cut off path, coming to the conclusion that Mydei purposefully blocked them off. Phainon comments “He might look honest, but he’s a lot shrewder than he seems.”
Finally meeting with Mydei once more, Phainon notices that Mydei’s gotten impatient with waiting as if it was their fault that Mydei forgot to clear out the obstacles along the way. They compare their tallies for the amount of Castrum Kremnos crests they got. If Phainon and the Trailblazer win (more than 30 crests), Mydei allows him to deliver the final blow, but Phainon shakes it off as “disrespectful to the gods” to decide something like that with a mere competition. He tells Mydei that he can take Nikador down together if he shares half of his crests with him, and Mydei does so.
If Phainon and the Trailblazer have less than 30, Mydei says basically the same as Phainon does, saying that they should declare no victor and continue on, as Nikador’s soul should be claimed by true warriors such as them. To this, Phainon says “Surprisingly, your words can sometimes be music to my ears.” In a tie, they quickly agree on delivering the final blow together.
When the three run into Chryseus Leo, a lion sculpture and Mydei’s former teacher, Mydei gets riled up when his teacher does not answer him. Phainon calms him down before handing over the indecipherable slate, which Mydei translates with ease. From the slate, they figure out that the attack on Okhema was orchestrated by Nikador. Mydei says that one of the 3 need to go back to rescue Okhema, but Phainon disagrees, saying they must press on. Mydei asks if Phainon is blinded by glory, as to which Phainon justifies himself by saying that defeating the source of evil will make the threat disappear on its own, telling Mydei to trust Aglaea and Tribbie in protecting Okhema. Mydei reluctantly agrees, trusting Phainon’s judgements, before they continue to approach Nikador.
When they get closer to Nikador, Phainon comments on the heat of the area, saying that this could very well be where they meet their end. Mydei tells him to be careful, as his thoughts are being corrupted by Strife, snapping Phainon out of it. When they encounter an obstacle, Mydei tells the two to let him smash it, and Phainon is now the one to stop him from acting irrationally.
If the Trailblazer chooses to kill at Sculpting Zone Strong Man in the area, you get this dialogue:
- Mydei – “Your ruthlessness is akin to that of the executioners in Castrum Kremnos.”
- Phainon – “Let me translate that for you... Actually, I'm not sure what it means either.”
After talking to a Titankin and hearing of a sculpted, indestructible body, Phainon comments that leading Mydei’s people away from Kremnos was the right choice. Mydei tells him to not glorify his choice, as it was his choice to exile himself, costing him his pride. Phainon also says that Mydei would be quite the expert in indestructible bodies, referring to Mydei’s own undying body. Mydei dismisses him by saying he talks too much. This is where the Trailblazer learns from Phainon that Mydei has a talent for “defying death”.
After talking to another Titankin, the trio hear of the madness the Titankin’s fell into. When Phainon questions it, Mydei tells him that the Titankin’s have been twisted by madness, just like the people of Kremnos. “They remember how to kill, but have forgotten why.” Here, we hear of Phainon and Mydei’s beliefs when it comes to violence.
- Phainon – “I've always believed that killing with blades isn't any nobler than killing with subterfuge. Aside from one's mission and survival, no other reason can justify violence.”
- Mydei – “That's where we differ. For my tribe, glory and conquest are also valid reasons.”
- Phainon – “But deep down, you don't really agree with that, do you?”
This further shows that Phainon knows Mydei on a deeper level, even understanding his ideologies. They’re interrupted by more Titankins, and at this point, Mydei and Phainon have seemed to forget of the Trailblazer’s existence, when Mydei says “You and I will soon bring this madness to a close.” What is the Trailblazer even here for? Third-wheeling?
Mydei asks if Phainon is ready, and Phainon absolutely is, saying that bearing the Coreflame of Strife has always been his deep-seated desire. While heading through the final doors before the battle with Nikador, Mydei reminds Phainon that he was the one who insisted on coming here. Phainon asks how he can pretend this is just a normal battle when his mission and purpose as Amphoreus’s hero all depend on this fight.
Light Slips the Gate, Shadow Greets the Throne Trailblaze Mission[]
The quest begins at the Vortex of Genesis. Mydei remarks how Phainon’s strife trial is taking far too long. Trinnon then exclaims that she can no longer hear Phainon’s voice within the trial and that the trial is burning him up. Aglaea turns to Mydei and Mydei says he will follow through with his promise to rescue Phainon. Mydei leads the trailblazer and Dan Heng into the Trial of Strife in order to save Phainon.
Once entering the trial, inside is Okhema in disaster and strife. Mydei observes that this must be what Phainon fears the most and how Okhema and Kremnos are at war. After wandering through the trial and experiencing bloodlust, Mydei and the trailblazer find Chartonus. Mydei says he needs Chartonus to tell him where Phainon is, Chartonus throws Mydei’s mother’s signet ring at him telling Mydei to leave Okhema.
After Mydei and the trailblazer find Dan Heng, they find out Nikador is the one manipulating the battlefield. Mydei demands that Nikador hands over Phainon and Nikador says no.
Nikador reveals that Phainon failed his trial but he still fought a fierce battle. Nikador remarks at how similar Mydei is to his own mother, taunting him. Nikador mentions how Mydei lost his mother’s signet ring to the sea of souls after he killed his father. Mydei then engages in battle with Nikador. After winning the battle Phainon, consumed with strife, attacks Mydei from behind with his claymore. Mydei simply grabs the weapon and smiles at Phainon.
The scene cuts to after Phainon was rescued where the Trailblazer learns more about the black tide. On the other side of Marmoreal Palace Tribbie takes Mydei’s silence as him worrying for Phainon. Mydei responds that he is not worrying because he knows Phainon can pull through.
Their mutual care for one another is shown time and time again through their banter, but especially through how the people around them interact with them. For instance, while knowing fully well that Phainon would fail the Trial of Strife, Agalea lets him take on the trial, all for the purpose of pressuring Mydei into taking on the trial instead.
- Mydei – “Aglaea knew that Phainon might fall... And she expected me to take his place. That was the plan all along, wasn't it?”
- Tribbie – “...Yes. Looks like you know everything.”
- — In 'Glory, Turn From Imbibed Poison', following Phainon's rescue out of the Trial of Strife
She and Tribbie were fully aware of their bond, and used it to their advantage for the sake of the Flame-Chase. Yet Mydei does not fault them for it, even apologizing to Tribbie when he understandably responds with anger.
- Tribbie – “Don't worry, De. This isn't the first time he's been like this. A long time ago-”
- Mydei – “I'm not worrying about him.”
- Tribbie – “Oh... Alright. You're a little quiet, though.”
- Mydei – “...I'm sorry. That was rude of me. What I meant was, I know that man can pull through for sure.”
- — In 'Glory, Turn From Imbibed Poison'
Mydei states how he requires aid from other Kremnoans to complete the Strife Trial. Tribbie replies that the trial is only meant for one individual.
- Tribbie – “If you take on the divine role, they will have no reservations about following your lead... After all, you're the hero of Castrum Kremnos.”
- Mydei – “I once was. But Lady Tribios... Therein lies my deepest fear.”
Mydei then heads out to look for other Kremnoans and finds a group of children unattended in the baths. Mydei worries for their safety and they reveal they are out to play hide and seek with Krateros. Mydei questions Krateros. Before leaving he warns the children not to play alone in the hot baths again, demonstrating his care for the young Kremnoans. The children question about the possibility of returning “home” soon, and Mydei converses with them about Castrum Kremnos.
Mydei leaves the children to look for Krateros. Once finding the elder, who is playing a game with Verax Leo, Mydei refers to Krateros as his teacher. After the two go to an isolated area, Krateros questions Mydei if he intended to give up the coreflame to someone else (Phainon), and Mydei does not give a substantive answer. Krateros brings up Queen Gorgo, guilting Mydei into taking the throne. Mydei reminds Krateros that he killed Eurypon.
Krateros: "Don't be ridiculous. The only thing that could slay a king is a spear... Even an infant knows that much."
Krateros brings up Gorgo again, saying that Mydei is turning his back on Castrum Kremnos. Krateros, who only refers to Mydei as “Mydeimos” also brings up the familiar name that the fellow Chrysos Heirs refer to him with, with a disapproving tone
Krateros: "Go, Mydei... Hah, that's what those Chrysos Heirs call you, isn't it? Go down the path you have deemed correct. Deep down, you have always been one to do as you please, and I am well aware that no one can deter you once you've made up your mind."
Krateros indicates that he worries that Mydei will trust someone too much and reveal his weaknesses to another individual. Foreshadowing what Mydei will reveal to Phainon later.
Krateros: "My young lord, always bear this in mind: Never reveal your vulnerabilities to anyone. A lion should never dwell amidst its prey…"
Through the Petals in the Land of Repose[15][]
The first mention of Mydei from Phainon is right after the trailblazer finishes their Trial of Oronyx. The trailblazer learns they have been dead the entire time and they must find a way to revive themself or they will be gone for good. Phainon remarks about how if only people thought to study Mydei's immortality then they could possibly have an easy solution to save the trailblazer.
When giving his speech Phainon also mentions Mydei and utilizes Mydei's actions to motivate others.

Fanon[]
The ship first gained traction before Amphoreus was even released thanks to leaks, primarily the "Victory In a Blink" light cone. It then gained further popularity following the 3.0 patch, which then boomed following the release of the 3.1 patch. In the 3.0 trailblaze mission, many fans felt as though they were third-wheeling Mydei and Phainon whenever they were both on screen. This feeling was further intensified as the 3.1 patch dove deeper into their relationship, showing the intricacies of their bond. Their mutual respect and equal standing, as well as the childish rivalry they display only with one another, had many fans immediately fall for their dynamic.
Fanon Interpretation[]
Their contrasting personalities are highlighted through their color schemes and garments: Phainon's color palette mostly consists of blue and he is heavily clothed, while Mydei is very loosely dressed, chest exposed, his color palette mostly red.
When inverting their colors in their introduction art, they also match each others' colors, which is a common design choice used by Hoyoverse for pairs.

Where you'd think the character with the warm color palette would be the rowdier one, it's in fact the opposite — Mydei is more often level-headed, rational, and cautious. Phainon, on the other hand, is quicker to impulsive decisions, even being warned about it by Aglaea. However, this doesn't mean that Mydei is cold and that Phainon wears his heart on his sleeves. Mydei can be clumsy when expressing himself, but is always genuine in everything he says, honest and caring to a fault. Phainon is much more at ease in social situations, truly fitting the role of a "Deliverer", and a hero. However, he has trouble opening up to even his closest friends, only offering vague words when he does choose to open up. This is most prominent in the 3.1 Trailblaze Mission, where Mydei tells Phainon of his past with detail, but Phainon doesn't elaborate much on his own — he doesn't even explain who Cyrene is, despite mentioning her by name.
We can also found parallels between PhaiDei and Mydei's parents, Gorgo and Eurypon. Pointed out by tumblr user starcurtain in their post 'Comparing Phaidei and Other Hoyo MLM Ships (Part 1)' :
"Mydei's parents met when Gorgo challenged Eurypon at the Kremnos Festival. They fought for ten rounds, determined that they were (what do you know) perfect equals, and Eurypon proposed on the spot. Eurypon is explicitly described as a swordmaster, while Gorgo used a spear.
Later, the game repeatedly (and in various separate instances), emphasizes that Mydei and Phainon's first meeting consisted of a duel lasting ten days and ten nights, where neither of them could secure the victory, proving them to also be each other's perfect equals. Phainon's role as Okhema's swordmaster is emphasized, while Mydei wields a spear just like his mother when killing his father and after taking on Nikador's divinity.
Then there's... everything that came after. Eurypon betrayed Gorgo, effectively stabbing her in the back, and took her life. The foreshadowing that Phainon will do this exact same thing to Mydei is unmissable."
Their hands from their Drip Marketing also form a heart when edited together.

When overlapped, they have the same sky in the background of their splash arts.

Fan-content and fanart[]
- In fan content, a dog [Phainon] and a cat/lion [Mydei], or respectively blue and red chimeras, are often used as animal versions for them. This depiction of the two can also be found in promotional content in the 3.0 livestream update, where it showcased two chimeras with similar colors to Phainon and Mydei bantering.
- A PhaiDei event was posted by Lofter's official account, named "Fated to Love"Vol.1 of "Fated to Love" on lofter
Fan Theories[]
There are a number of popular theories that involve Phainon and Mydei. One that is particularly common is that Phainon is the one who gave Mydei his necklace, arm band, and earring. Some think it may have just been Mydei's earring given by Phainon while others think it was the whole jewelry set. The reasoning behind this theory is that Mydei had different jewelry when seen in a flashback with his friends. However when he killed his father, he was seen garbed in new attire. This included his jewelry being swapped out for a new set that includes bright blue gemstones, ones that are very similar to the color of Phainon's eyes. There are also 10 total blue gemstones combined, 10 being a number commonly occurring between PhaiDei. Phainon also has shown to have a hobby in appraisal.
Translation Differences[]
Chinese Names:[]
- Mydei: 万敌 (Wandi)
- Phainon: 白厄 (Bai’e)
Phrases:[]
Deliverer Chinese word: 救世者
Literally Meaning: saviour of the world
Phainon: That’s not like you at all, Mydei? Don’t tell me you’re scared?
白厄:这可不像你啊? 万敌的万,难道不是【以一敌万】的万吗?
Literal Translation:
This isn’t like you at all, Mydei? Isn’t the “My” in Mydei the same as the one in “Fighting ten thousand as one man”?
Translation Note: Like in many other cultures, it is believed that if a child has a name containing characters with good meanings, the child will be blessed to embody those meanings in their life. Mydei in Chinese is written as 万敌 (wan di), with the first character 万 meaning ten thousand, which is the same characters as the one in “Fighting ten thousand as one man”, an idiom used to describe a one man army. He’s joking that Mydei is chickening out and isn’t living up to his name as a one-man army.
Mydei's Keeping Up With Star Rail[]
In the official translation, Owlbert introduces Phainon as “A helpful citizen who claims to know everything about Mydei”. In Chinese, he introduces him as “人称【万敌万事通】的热心市民” , which is more directly translates to “A helpful citizen who claims to call themselves the Jack of all things about Mydei” with.
The character “万” shows up twice, the first time for Mydei’s Chinese name (“万敌”) and the second time for “万事通,” meaning “skilled in ten thousand things” or “a Jack of all trades.” This is another Chinese pun.
Official Translation:
Owlbert: “You and Mydei must be true friends!”
Chinese Saying:
Owlbert: 你们两个关系不错吗!
Translation Note: The direct translation is "the relationship between you two is pretty good!"
Official Translation:
Phainon: “I’ve tested them, they hurt.”
Chinese Saying:
亲测, 很痛。
Translation Note: For a more literal sense, it’s “I’ve personally tested them.” As a side note, the 亲 character in this context means extremely personal/ extremely close in relationship, with another common meaning of the character is kiss. (亲吻 / 亲亲).
Official Translation:
Owlbert: “You two really are friends till death do you part.”
Chinese Saying:
您俩还真是互相往【死】里整的交情啊。
Translation Note: A more literal translation is “You two really do have a relationship of going all out against each other to death.” The insinuation of “death do you part” being a phrase related to marriage is added to the English translation.
Official Translation:
Phainon: “Sounds like a Kremnoan to me!”
Chinese Saying:
我猜, 此事在悬峰人字典里仪有记载
Translation Note: “I can probably guess that such a thing is in the Kremnoan dictionary.” This mirrors the saying Mydei usually uses of “There is no such thing as ___ in the Kremnoan dictionary”. A usual sign of extreme closeness is mimicking each other’s habits.
As I've Written Chapter 11, Servant of Death: Castorice[]
There is a section describing "A pair of archenemies who gained fame in the war" followed by a quote spoken by Phainon's voice actor, indicating that the person speaking the quote was Phainon.
In the original Chinese text, the phrase 惺惺相惜 comes from the Chinese story "Romance of the Western Chamber", and it is used to describe a connection between two people who are similar in personality, intellect and environment, who mutually protect, empathize and support each other.
In modern Chinese media, a popular use of this phrase comes from Chapter 34 of wuxia webnovel "断肠花“, which uses the phrase to describe two main characters (who eventually enter a romantic relationship at the end of the novel) having a relationship of mutual admiration before exclaiming "But there is no proof that this isn't a type of fate!"
In the French translation of Castorice's 'As I've Written', the line "But in your eyes, you think we are close, unable to part?" is translated as "Mais pour toi, nous sommes des âmes sœurs?", which translates to "But to you, we are soulmates?"

Trivia[]
- Mydei often calls Phainon not by his name, but by the nickname "Deliverer", in reference to his "mission of deliverance" as said by Aglaea.
- Phainon has commented on Mydei’s body on multiple occasions and has inquired about the specifics of his body’s immortality.
- Both somehow find a way to mention the other when the other isn't around.
- Verax Leo tells a riddle to Phainon and the Trailblazer, asking for someone that is "cute, well-loved, and immortal". Phainon answers "Mydei". When Verax Leo says Mydei will rip them to shreds for saying that, Phainon only laughs in response, saying that Mydei is not the kind of person to do that.
- In Chinese, the name, 白厄(Phainon), combines the character for white (白) with only the middle character from the translation of the mythological name Phaenon (法厄农) , it’s an original name as well not a direct translation from mythology.
- Throughout Okhema, you can find many instances of a red/orange object placed closely to a blue object. An example is the orange seal and blue seal floating in the Marmoreal Palace Bath.
- Phainon was the guest who appeared in Mydei's Keeping Up With Star Rail.
- In CN, Mydei’s official name is 万敌: the character 万 means ten thousand, while 敌 means enemies. This is a reference to ‘以一敌万’, a famous CN idiom which means ‘one against ten thousand’. This idiom is only used once in the game during the 'Heroic Saga of Flame-Chase' Trailblaze Mission, where Phainon teases Mydei.
The English translation of the dialogue goes like this:
- Mydei – “Instead of worrying about gates, why don't you take the time to think about how the three of us are supposed to fend off an entire army.”
- Phainon – “That's not like you at all, Mydei. Don't tell me you're scared?”
- — In ‘Night Stars, Accompany My Slumber’
While in CN, Phainon instead says something along the lines of “Well, your name is 万敌, ‘one against ten thousand’, so going against an army wouldn’t bother you, right?”
- In the 3.1 Special Program (which coincidentally aired on Valentine's Day), Mydei, Aglaea, and Tribbie have a conversation about Nikador’s love life, in which Aglaea states that Nikador fought with their rival. Mydei gets overly flustered when Tribbie states that the tale is well-known in Okhema, stumbling over his words. This tale can be seen as a metaphor for Mydei and Phainon, as rivals who often fight.
- Mydei – “Hmph. There is no word for ‘romance’ in the Kremoan Language.”
- Aglaea – “Is that so? I heard Nikador once failed in love, and even got into a fight with their rival.”
- Mydei – “Huh? That’s just a baseless slander, a-a wild tale meant to tarnish Nikador’s name!”
- Tribbie – “Oh~ De, this story is quite well-known in Okhema~”

The only people we've seen him call this are Phainon (in the 3.1 Trailblaze Mission 'Light slips the Gate, Shadow Meets the Throne'), Eurypon (also in the 3.1 Trailblaze Mission previously mentioned), and Flame Reaver (in the 3.1 Special Program Livestream)
