Tsukasa“Heh. Don't get so down now. We're Wonderlands x Showtime! We're the ones that give your shows 20000%!”
Rui“Oh, another unprovable claim? That value's grown since last time as well, no?”
Tsukasa“That's because we have Emu and Nene now! Of course it's gone up!”
Rui“Hehe. Yes, I see.”
— Rui and Tsukasa in "Fantastic Planner" second side story

Emu Otori, Nene Kusanagi, Rui Kamishiro and Tsukasa Tenma are all part of the theater troupe Wonderlands x Showtime. They also became the ambassadors for Phoenix Wonderland. Everyone except Emu attends Kamiyama High, with Emu being the only one to attend Miyamasuzaka Girls' Academy, although she would frequently visit Kamiyama during lunch break. Rui and Tsukasa are third-years while Emu and Nene are second-years.

Tsukasa is a dramatic aspiring star with a big ego and is usually the one his groupmates victimize, and is considered the leader of their troupe. Emu is a naive and hyper young girl who is determined and willing to achieve her dreams of making everyone smile and was the one who convinced Tsukasa to start the troupe. Rui is an eccentric genius inventor who can be careless and far too creative, and he is the director of their troupe. Although Nene is shy and introverted, she plays the straight man of the group, calling the others weirdos, and she is the vocalist of their troupe. They put on shows together in Phoenix Wonderland owned by Emu’s family.

Tsukasa is the one that Emu usually drags into her plans, as she is very energetic and impulsive, jumping on Tsukasa and running into him often. Tsukasa is the one that usually stars in Rui's ideas for their shows, although that usually means strange situations such as being dumped in a pit of robot zombies. Nene thinks Tsukasa is an idiot, Emu rather strange, and Rui rather crazy, but despite this, she considers them her closest friends and enjoys being around them. Rui is able to understand Emu's onomatopoeia even if the rest of the group doesn’t and is often overwhelmed by her bubbly language. Emu thinks Nene is very talented while Nene wants to help Emu with her problems. Emu likes her groupmates a lot and appreciates their long lasting friendship and endeavors. Rui and Nene are childhood friends, and they are each part of each other's reasons to get into making shows, and they care for each other. Rui thinks Wonderlands x Showtime is where he truly belongs.

Their story begins when Tsukasa finds an unknown audio file, "Untitled". He then gets transported to a place with a giant stage at the center: Wonderlands SEKAI, a world born from his and three other's peoples feelings, where he meets the Vocaloids Hatsune Miku and KAITO. The first time he enters the SEKAI, only the vocaloids are present. Later, he goes back and assumes it was all a strange dream, while his younger sister, Saki, tells him he's about to be late to his audition.

In Phoenix Wonderland, Tsukasa then goes to an audition room to take a job to work at the park. That's when he meets Emu, who is immediately interested by Tsukasa wanting to perform incredible shows and realizes she wants him on his team. She then says she spotted a super great person. A few days later, Tsukasa sees Nene and Rui for the first time, as he was walking down the streets and muttering to himself. Nene calls him a weirdo, while Rui comments that he's interesting.

At his first workday, Emu scares Tsukasa by jumping off the Wonder Stage and landing on him. This is their first official meeting. Emu says that this was her way to welcome him, and that she wants to have incredible shows with him. Emu tells him that he didn't pass the audition, but that she really wants to perform with him, thus inviting him to the stage. Even when Tsukasa tries to leave, Emu begs him to stay. After that, they end up in the Wonderlands SEKAI again, meaning that they share the same feeling of wanting to perform shows.

After leaving the SEKAI, they meet Rui and his several robots that he calls "mechanical actors". He performs shows by telling stories, with his robots being his actors. Tsukasa and Emu are really impressed by his directing skills. Because of that, they want to make him the third member of the troupe, and so Tsukasa ask him to join them. Rui accepts on one condition; they let someone else he knows join, that person being Nene. Controlling the robot Rui made for her Robo-Nene, Nene and the others finally meet her. Tsukasa is reluctant to let a robot join, but after seeing the sufficient talent, Nene gets accepted in the group, and they're officially groupmates.

With many endeavors, WXS ends up in many problems with contradicting views and mainly Tsukasa’s tunnel vision on his goals to be a star. As their endeavors proceed, Nene, forgetting to charge Robo-Nene, inadvertently causes their show to fail. Tsukasa lashes out on her and insults her, prompting Rui to jump in and defend her. After Nene runs off, Rui announces he won’t be in the group anymore since he can’t see eye-to-eye with Tsukasa. Afterwards, Emu, seeing how their troupe backfired, was piled with guilt as she realized she had caused everyone’s unhappiness in the pursuit of smiles. She brings Tsukasa, who is apologetic and realizing his fault, to the ferris wheel, explaining she’ll let the Wonder Stage be demolished. However, Tsukasa refuses against this and promises he’ll make their dreams come true after a long and emotional conversation, so they head to bring back Nene and Rui, both whom are experiencing guilt and turmoil after the argument.

Tsukasa sincerely apologies to Nene after he chases her with Emu, so she agrees to join their troupe. Later, Rui refuses to come back but is happy to see Nene back in the group. However, after bringing Rui to the SEKAI and creating a show, this kindles his realization as he agrees to rejoin the troupe. From then on, WXS would face many challenges and hardships; as they all have the same passion of performing on stage, even though they express it differently. The four having the same shared emotions of theater had kindled the SEKAI, which makes them united

Quotes[]

“(Washing up on a desert island alone seemed unthinkable, but we ended up facing one crazy thing after another... Like foraging for bananas and capturing monkeys... But looking back, it totally sounds like something we'd do... Something that would only happen with the four of us... Oh, I guess this is kind of like our shows... Rui would try out an effect and send Tsukasa flying, or Emu would unexpectedly pop out of nowhere... Just so many ridiculous things... But it always feels like we can do anything whenever we work together... Even though it seems so stupid sometimes...)”
— Nene in "Desperate Times?! Island Panic! Episode 7 "Together With Everyone"
“Because we're Wonderlands x Showtime. Anything is possible when it comes to us.”
— Nene in Desperate Times?! Island Panic! Episode 8 "With The Best Teamwork Ever!"
“A lot of things happened and.... My heart was so full that I cried. But then, everyone laughed and told me not to worry. I thought I was going to trouble them, but they all said they'd smile with me! Hehehe... That made me soooo happy!”
— Emu in "Smile of a Dreamer" After Live
“I was going to celebrate my birthday by treating myself to a game I want and just play it all day... But I guess celebrating with everyone like this isn't all that bad either.”
— Nene in her 2021 Birthday Virtual Live
“When I was singing with you guys earlier, it brought back so many memories. Like the time when we started performing shows together, or when we talked about Phoenix Wonderland on the Ferris wheel... I felt so lost trying to tackle everything by myself, but then you all reassured me that it was okay for me to rely on you... You helped me think up a plan, and even persuaded Sakurako-chan and the other cast members to join in too. It was thanks to all of you that Phoenix Wonderland can still remain as "a place that makes everyone smile" forever and ever. Hehehe. Thinking about it made me fill up with all kinds of emotions.”
— Emu in her 2021 Birthday Virtual Live
“Tsukasa-kun, Emu-kun, Nene. All of you, thank you. Because you've all done everything in your power to bring my ideas to life, I am now able to deliver what I believe is the 'best show' to our audience. So... From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
— Rui in his 2022 Birthday Virtual Live
“There's no mistaking it... I really do love performing with them...”
— Rui in "A Sad Farewell at the Curtain Call" Virtual Live
“Hehe... Today I put a different feeling into the song than when we sang it before. Back then, I only thought about wanting to support all of your dreams. But today I thought, 'I want to work really hard toward my dreams too!' Waaah! I can't stand waiting till the next show!”

Fanon[]

Being from the same unit, Wonderlands x Showtime, the four characters spend a lot of time together, and have all events dedicated to them. Because of how close the four of them are, the fandom started shipping them, as well as some other individual ships between them. It's not rare for an unit in the fandom to be shipped all together. Polyshow has currently over 970 works on AO3 in total, making it the most popular poly ship in the fandom.

In 2022, a WxS Ship Week was held from June 11-17. Fans would create content for a certain ship for each day of the week. The ship for the first day was Ruiemu, the second day Nenekasa, the third day Emunene, the fourth day RuiKasa, the fifth day Ruinene, the sixth day Emukasa and the seventh day free choice. The WanshoShipWeek hashtag on Twitter was used to tag content for the ship week.

On June 24, 2022, after the official Colorful Stage EN account tweeted out that "Rui loves his friends very much," some of the shippers took it as a confirmation that Polyshow is "in fact canon."

Ship Weeks[]

The first Polyshow Week was held under the PolyshoWeek2023 hashtag on Twitter in February. The second Polyshow Week was held on October 16-22, 2023, under the same hashtag.
