X-Men Origins: Wolverine[]
As the team gets trapped in an elevator, Wade immediately starts making annoying comments. Logan asks if he ever shuts up and Wade replies not when he's awake.
Years later, as Logan is attempting to help Kayla lead a group of Mutants out of Striker's, the door in front of them opens. Standing behind it is a man with his mouth gone and black graphs all over him. Logan brings out his claws, as the man has a katana come out of his hand. Logan realizes it's Wade, and comments on how Striker found a way to shut him up. Wade is given the order to attack, and starts running at Logan. Logan tells him he doesn't have to do this, but as Wade keeps running Logan guesses that he doesn't have a choice. They start fighting and Logan gets a good stab in. However, he becomes frustrated when he realizes that Wade now has healing ability.
They continue fighting till Logan is pushed outside and he climbs to the top of one of the towers. Logan then goads Wade up there, thinking he can't make it, only for Wade to teleport up. Logan lets out an annoyed sigh, before turning around to try and stab him, only for Wade to teleport again. They continue their fight, when Wade is about to decapitate Logan. Victor shows up in time and saves Logan, readying for the rest of the fight. The two then team up to fight Wade, with Wade eventually getting the upper hand. Logan is then able to get behind him and decapitate him, kicking him down the building to make sure he stays gone.

Poolverine rose in popularity shortly after the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie starring both titular characters. Shippers quickly fell in love with their dynamic and the underlying sexual tension between them throughout the film, sparking a surge of fan art and fan fiction centered around the pairing. Many fans believe that their fight in the Honda Odyssey was either intended as a sexual innuendo or implied that the two hooked up afterwards. This scene has since become a common theme in fan works of the ship. A popular fan theory is that Wade and Logan end up living together after the events of the movie, with some interpreting the moment where their masks lie side by side at the end as a subtle hint. Prior to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the ship was considered a rarepair, largely because both characters were more commonly shipped with others and their interactions in the comics hadn't received as much attention at the time. The ship's main rivals are Spideypool and Scogan. Despite this, there are very few ship wars between the fandoms.
On AO3, Poolverine is the most written ship for Wolverine and the second most written ship for Deadpool. It is the most written ship in the Deadpool (Movieverse) tag and the second most written ship in the Deadpool - All Media Types tag.
