ProTheia is the het ship between Proto-Earth and Theia from SolarBalls.

Canon[]

In The First Planets – Part 2, Proto-Earth and Theia met for the first time when the Sun was introducing the newly forming planets. Theia was preparing to share more about herself—her favorite hobby, her dreams—but just as she began, Proto-Earth interrupted her. He quickly introduced himself, cutting her off mid-sentence. Proto then asked her to apologize, saying she made him look bad. Theia refused, saying it was her fault for talking too much. Proto admitted he didn’t want to wait forever and told her to move on. Theia demanded an apology instead. When Proto asked if she really wanted one, she said that without it, they wouldn’t be friends.

In The First Planets - Part 3 Proto-Earth decided he wanted to apologize to Theia. He had a plan to leave the group temporarily, hoping to clear his head. Theia, surprised by his change in tone, told him maybe they could talk after that. Then, Theia overheard Proto-Earth say something that sounded like an insult. Offended, she confronted him—but Proto quickly explained what he actually meant. The misunderstanding led to a more honest conversation between them.

In How Do Planets Develop Life? - Part 2 Theia overheard a private conversation between Proto-Earth and Mars. In a moment of vulnerability, Proto-Earth admitted to Mars that he liked Theia. Theia was stunned. She blushed at the revelation, caught off guard by the confession.

In How Do Planets Develop Life? - Part 3 Proto-Earth Said that he already knew he liked Theia. Theia, who was nearby, heard the comment and was visibly flustered. She blushed—this time more intensely—and immediately panicked.

In Love between Planets - Part 1 Theia responded to Proto-Earth’s earlier confession by declaring that she liked him too. She admitted she didn’t reply when she overheard him telling Mars, explaining that she was caught off guard and didn’t know how to react. With the tension finally broken, Proto-Earth and Theia began flirting with each other. Their chemistry was undeniable, and they nearly kissed—until Proto-Earth hesitated. He stopped Theia, unsure if planets could even kiss. Theia teased him, saying they hadn’t even tried yet, and jokingly called him a “softie.”

In Love between Planets - Part 2 Theia proposed an idea that could change their dynamic forever, but Proto-Earth strongly opposed it. He argued that the Sun would overreact, possibly destabilizing the entire system. Theia initially pushed back, frustrated that Proto was always so cautious. But after a moment of reflection, she agreed to put the idea on hold—for now. With emotions running high, the two leaned in, attempting to kiss each other. But just before their lips met, they pulled apart again. The moment was intense, charged with cosmic energy, and witnessed by Venus—who was visibly shocked by what he saw.

In Love between Planets - Part 3 Proto-Earth began to doubt their plan to orbit together, fearing the Sun’s reaction. But Theia, determined and hopeful, approached the Sun directly. She declared her wish to orbit him alongside Proto-Earth, forming a double planet system—like Pluto and Charon. They leaned in for a kiss, their gravity pulling them closer—but before they could touch, the Sun erupted in anger. He began spinning rapidly, unleashing a gravitational force separate them.

In The Crash of "Proto-"Earth and Theia! Venus uses his gravity to fling Theia towards Proto-Earth Proto prepares to follow, but pauses to speak to Mars. He promises they’ll play asteroid dodgeball again someday. Mars nods and tells him, “Go get the girl.” Proto and Theia return to their orbits—but they ignore the Sun’s orders. Instead, they begin orbiting each other, finally reunited. They tell each other how much they missed one another. Theia apologizes for messing things up, but Proto reassures her it’s not her fault. He tells her this is how things were meant to happen. Theia asks if Proto had the same vision. He says yes they see a glimpse of the afterlife—peaceful, united, eternal. Theia asks if Proto is scared of what needs to happen. Proto tells her it’s clear to him now, and he’s not afraid—because they’ll do it together. And then, for the first and last time, they kiss—colliding in a brilliant flash of light.

Quotes[]

Proto-Earth: (to Mars) Yes. I… guess I… do like Theia.

Theia: (blushes) I… know you like me.

Proto-Earth: Am I that obvious?

Mars: (lowers his voice) Psst! Hey, Proto! Did you tell Theia that you, you know, like her?

Proto-Earth: Mars, you can’t just say that out loud!

Mars: Well, I spoke like this to make it difficult to…

Theia: Yes. I… I figured, Mars.

Proto-Earth: (blushes) Theia!

Theia: We love each other.

Proto-Earth: What?

Theia: At least… I do. And I know it sounds crazy, but I feel like us together may be the key to all of this.

Proto-Earth: I love you too, Theia.

Theia: (blushes) Really? You… love me?

Proto-Earth: Are you surprised? Come on. I’m crazy about you, Theia.

Theia: Proto!

Proto-Earth: I’ve missed you, Theia.

Theia: I’ve missed you too, Proto. Sorry if I ruined everything.

Proto-Earth: Hey, it’s not your fault. I think this is how things were meant to happen.

Theia: So… you had the same dream as I?

Proto-Earth: Yes. I know what we must do.

Theia: Me too, but… you know what this means?

Proto-Earth: Yeah. It’s all clear now.

Theia: And you’re not… afraid?

Proto-Earth: No, because I’ll do it with you.

(Theia and Proto start orbiting each other)

Sun: (angry) Theia! Proto-Earth! Stop right this instant! (throws a gravitational wave towards them)

Theia: This is how we do it. This was the missing piece.

Proto-Earth: This is how we bring life to the universe. You and me. Together.

Theia: I love you, Proto.

Proto-Earth: I love you too, Theia.

Fanon[]

ProTheia is one of the most popular ships in the SolarBalls fandom, especially among fans who enjoy tragic romance and mythic symbolism. The ship centers around Proto-Earth and Theia, whose canon collision is reimagined in fanon as a deeply emotional and transformative event. Their dynamic gained widespread attention after The First Planets – Part 2, where their tense introduction and Proto’s awkward interruption of Theia sparked immediate fan edits and lore speculation. The emotional climax in Love Between Planets – Part 2, where Theia overhears Proto’s confession to Mars, solidified their status as a top-tier ship. The ship thrives on contrast and cosmic tension. Proto-Earth is often portrayed as stoic, burdened by responsibility, while Theia is impulsive, passionate, and yearning for connection. Fanon interpretations explore themes of betrayal, sacrifice, and misunderstood affection, with many AUs depicting Theia’s crash as a deliberate act—either of love, vengeance, or desperation. The Moon is frequently seen as their symbolic child, born from impact and lingering emotion.
