Rabbit Family is the family ship between Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Fanny Cottontail, and the Bunny Children from the Mickey Mouse and Friends fandom.
Canon[]
Oswald, Fanny, and the Bunny Children all originated in the short "Proud Papa." In the story, a flock of storks deliver the bunny children to Oswald and Fanny's home, much to the alarm of Oswald. He attempts to prevent the deluge of newborns from arriving, but he is ultimately unsuccessful. Fanny is later seen briefly in bed with her immense brood, apparently content with their presence or else resigned to it. The remainder of the short sees Oswald dealing with his multitude of offspring, with Fanny nowhere in sight.
Future shorts would see the roles of Oswald, Fanny, and the Bunny Children altered rather drastically. Oswald and Fanny would become romantic interests instead of spouses, and the Bunny Children would be repurposed as supporting characters. The Bunny Children appeared prominently with Oswald in "Trolley Troubles", but Fanny appears only on the poster for this cartoon. Oswald and Fanny also appeared in "Oh Teacher!", with the Bunny Children acting as background characters. The Bunny Children afterwards disappeared from the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts, and Fanny would follow sometime later.
It would not be until the release of the Epic Mickey video game series that the Bunny Children would not only return but again be depicted as Oswald's offspring. However, no mention is made of Fanny being their mother. Instead, Oswald speaks of Ortensia Whiskers as being the Bunny Children's mother. This could indicate that Ortensia is, at least in the Epic Mickey continuity, the actual mother of the Bunny Children. Alternatively, it could be that Fanny has no role in the lives of her children following her and Oswald's apparent falling out, and so their stepmother Ortensia is the only mother figure they have.
Fanon[]
Very little fan material exists with a focus on this family dynamic. The reasons for this are several and fairly obvious, with only their original appearance actually featuring the characters in a familial relationship. Elsewhere, the Bunny Children are either unrelated to both Oswald and Fanny, or their relationship is with Oswald only. Additionally, the prominence of Oswensia over Oswanny as a romantic pairing featuring Oswald undoubtedly leaves many fans unwilling to acknowledge any relationship between Fanny, Oswald, and the Bunny Children. However, there are those who believe that a positive relationship may exist between the former partners and their offspring, even if Oswald and Fanny's romance ultimately ceased.
