Rain Mirage is the femslash ship between The Girl in the Yellow Raincoat and The Pretender from the Little Nightmares fandom.

Canon

Very Little Nightmares

The two don't directly meet until the end events of Very Little Nightmares. Raincoat Girl stumbles upon The Pretender sobbing on a bench, her back turned to the former. For a moment Raincoat Girl will simply watch, but when The Pretender detects her she screams and tries to attack the latter. Raincoat Girl is left with nowhere else to run besides descending the cliff hovering just above the vast ocean. The mistress is extremely persistent and determined to eliminate Raincoat Girl, descending the rock walls easily and uncaring of the thin structure of the Nest growing more dangerous.

With the help of Six, whom Raincoat Girl saved in the midst of the chase, they manage to drop a massive boulder atop The Pretender's skull just before she can reach Raincoat Girl who is cornered by the edge of the cliff. The small girl falters instantly, face-planting into the ground. The scene is still -- making The Pretender's sudden rising much more shocking. She lunges into her target, sending them both falling into the ocean. They both end up drowning -- their bodies lost in the still waters.

Before this unavoidable fate, Raincoat Girl can see The Pretender from a safe distance on different occasions. Examples include witnessing the Pretender's tea party with her dolls, scolding her toys, and carelessly dragging a doll across the floor.

Fanon

The ship is decently popular within the fandom, particularly in the Very Little Nightmares franchise. There are both fanfictions and fanart forming in respect for the two. Fanarts often include the two having a stable friendship or engaging in friendly conversation. This variation of The Pretender downplays her sadistic, explosive personality drastically. Instead she's much more polite, sophisticated, or a mere Tsundure . However, these fan works aren't often depicted romantically, instead focusing on the platonic aspect of a possible relationship.

The cause behind the existence of ship content may stem from fans' sympathy for The Pretender as a presumably misunderstood antagonist. Fan theories question whether The Pretender used to be a human child, is suffering through trauma/abuse that led to her personality disorder, or is "innocently" troubled. Fans showcase Raincoat Girl as support for the mistress and curing the latter's loneliness.
