Manga[]

Chapters 311-313
Ran is the first to notice that Ai Haibara is getting sick at the beach and carries her to her room to rest. After Ran says that killing someone is not a sign of courage to the culprit of a murder case, Haibara is encouraged by her words and musters up enough courage to introduces herself to Ran. Both of them reach their hands out for each other.

Chapters 423-425
Ran comes to Agasa's house to make rice porridge for Haibara as she's acting sick. She ignores Ran and refuses to eat her rice porridge at first, but Conan tells her to at least accept her hospitality. Eventually, she eats it and end up liking it.

Chapters 429-434
Ran hides herself in Vermouth's car trunk after discovering Jodie's secret. When Calvados starts shooting at Haibara, Ran jumps out of the trunk and runs over to Haibara, covering her to protect her from the bullets. She tells that she has called the police and says to withstand it a little longer, which makes Haibara remember her deceased older sister, Akemi Miyano.

Anime-Only[]

Movie 26: Black Iron Submarine
Pinga kidnaps Haibara in the middle of the night while everyone is asleep. Ran is one of the first to notice something is amiss. While still barefoot, she leaps off the balcony and into the parking lot. She demands Pinga give back Haibara and fights against him. Even though Pinga is armed with a knife and a decent hand-to-hand combatant, Ran doesn't stop fighting and even tries to chase after them as they drive away. She is only forced to stop after she is nearly sniped by Chianti. After Haibara is rescued, Ran hugs her while crying tears of relief.

Later, Haibara dives into the sea to chase after Conan. After they resurface, Haibara lies down seemingly unconscious. Conan, worried, attempts to do mouth to mouth resuscitation, but Haibara stops him. Ran rushes over to Haibara's side and Haibara kisses her before faking unconsciousness. Ran blushes and looks to Conan, and Conan says that maybe she's dreaming.

Live Action[]

Drama 2: Shinichi Kudo Returns! Confrontation with the Black Organization
Shinichi entrusts Shiho (who uses the alias Hairi) to Ran's care. As Ran and Shiho leave the hotel, a member of the organization attempts to attack Shiho with a knife. Ran disarms the assassin and Shiho, not wanting to endanger Ran, flees back into the hotel.

Fanon[]

The ship has its fans, as they love the found family aspect of Ran as the older sister figure to Haibara after her real older sister was killed in the series. Ran has also reminded Haibara of Akemi on multiple occasions. Half of people ships them romantically and other half appreciate the platonic family relationship between them. However, considering there's only few interactions between them in the series, it is not as popular as the other rival ships, ShinRan and CoAi. Some fans prefer to ship Ran and Ai platonically rather than romantically due to Ai being reminded of Akemi multiple times and Ran having never met Ai in her teenage form in canon yet.

The RanAi ship has 60+ works on AO3.
