Raniyo is the family ship between Rani and Baliyo from The Lion King fandom.
Canon[]
Rani is Baliyo’s older sister, the pair having been introduced in The Lion Guard season three episode “The Tree of Life.” The two siblings are shown to be part of the Night Pride, a group of lions who protect the Tree of Life and the animals who live in its vicinity. At the time of their introduction the two have lost their parents, but have living family in their grandmother Janna and uncle Surak. Rani is the acting leader of the Night Pride and the more thoughtful of the two, whereas Baliyo tends to be rather impetuous.
In their debut, the pair and their pride mates Surak and Nirmala are alerted to the approach of a group of strange animals. Going to investigate, they find the pass leading into the Tree of Life has been blocked by a rockslide. Hearing the strangers’ voices, Rani turns to Surak and Nirnala for advice, but to her consternation Baliyo decides to get a look at the interlopers for himself. To Rani’s dismay, Baliyo then decides to attack the strangers, having jumped to the conclusion that they are a threat to the Tree of Life.
Rani follows her brother into the impromptu conflict, and later comes to agree with her brother’s assessment after seeing him locked in a fight with Kion, leader of the newcomers. When Kion sends Baliyo flying using his Roar of the Elders, Rani becomes furious. She promptly denies Kion and his friends permission to enter the Tree of Life, before leaving to find her brother. To her relief, Baliyo isn’t seriously harmed, though he objects to her referring to him as “little brother” and clarifies that he’s only younger than her.
Visiting her grandmother Janna, Rani reports the incident and makes particular note of Kion’s actions against Baliyo. Much to her surprise, her grandmother urges her to speak to Kion and his friends again. When she goes to speak to the rest of the Night Pride, Baliyo is eager for a confrontation with Kion’s Lion Guard. Wanting to force them to leave, he is surprised when Rani informs him that Janna has asked the Night Pride to welcome the visitors instead.
Having experienced Kion’s Roar, Baliyo isn’t enthusiastic about following Janna’s orders. Rani is similarly troubled, but the two siblings are soothed by their elder Pride mates and-in Rani’s case-a conversation with the spirits of their parents. Baliyo remains uncertain about this course of action, but then he and his teammates discover that the Lion Guard have cleared the rockslide but not crossed into the Night Pride’s territory. Impressed by this action, the Night Pride follow through on Janna’s instruction, though Baliyo does ask that Kion not Roar at him again.
In “The River of Patience”, Janna convinces Rani to give several of their new guests a tour by noting that Baliyo and Surak can attend to the Night Pride’s patrol tasks. The Night Pride later confronts a party of hostile animals, and when Rani directs them to leave Baliyo backs up his sister’s recommendation. During one of several fights between the Night Pride and the invaders, Rani becomes indignant when the Komodo Dragon Ora bites and temporarily paralyzes Baliyo. She later becomes alarmed when Chuluun the snow leopard targets her helpless brother, and asks Nirmala to take Baliyo to safety after Kion arrives to help them.
Once the battle is over, Rani asks after Baliyo and warns him to exercise more caution after learning he’ll be all right. Baliyo responds rather cockily that caution is “Not [his] style.” In “Little Old Ginterbong”, the two siblings have a baffled exchange over a reported attack on the Tree of Life.
In “Poa the Destroyer”, Baliyo becomes intent on finding Rani after hearing of a new supposed villain at the Tree of Life. The two then go searching for the invader, but Rani asks Baliyo to gather the Lion Guard after realizing what’s actually going on. Rani also tasks Baliyo with gathering several animals so that they can clear up the misunderstanding. She also cautions him to be discreet so as not to alarm the already troubled populace.
In “Long Live the Queen”, while the Night Pride are once again fighting the invaders, Rani directs Baliyo and Surak to accompany her. Afterwards, the Night Pride and Kion are summoned to Queen Janna, and Baliyo is puzzled by the sight of a number of gathered animals. Rani explains to him that it’s because of their grandmother, who has been unwell for some time. Upon learning that she is about to pass away, Baliyo is unwilling to see her until Rani encourages him.
As Kion and the Night Pride are saying their goodbyes to Janna, Baliyo looks to Rani, who gives him an encouraging nod to approach their grandmother. Janna asks Baliyo to support his sister in times to come, and Baliyo agrees readily. Later, he takes part in Rani’s coronation as the new Queen of the Tree of Life. When Makini proclaims Rani’s new title, Baliyo proudly declares “That’s my sister.”
In “The Lake of Reflection”, Rani orders Baliyo and Surak into battle against Ora. Unfortunately, Kion soon orders his friend Beshte into action against the dragon as well. This and other bungles eventually cause Rani to angrily confront Kion after the battle. However, she later looks on approvingly as Kion directs Baliyo and the rest of her teammates alongside his own.
In “Triumph of the Roar”, Baliyo and the rest of the Night Pride go looking for Rani after hearing of the latest predator attack. Baliyo calls out for her when they arrive in her chambers, only to learn that she is elsewhere. In “Return to the Pride Lands”, Baliyo is among those present at Rani and Kion’s wedding.

This section is in need of major improvement. Please help improve this article by editing it.
Though a prominent canon relationship, Raniyo doesn’t enjoy a great presence in fan work. Possible reasons for this may include The Lion Guard not being universally popular, a dislike for the third season among some fans, or simply the fact that Rani and Baliyo were introduced so late in the series. Fan works also tend to focus on romantic relationships, and characters originating from the Pride Lands and/or the films, as opposed to the series, are generally more popular.
There are currently no works tagged for the relationship on AO3.
